πŸ”₯ Vikings 2026 QB Options: Who Could Replace JJ or Back Him Up Next Season?

Welcome to the One Bar and Lopeus Show. Your daily source for everything Minnesota Vikings. All right, welcome back to One Barus Show. I’m One Bar with Lopagus. And yes, this is an actual topic, a topic we were hoping would not happen, but it is becoming very clear that next year the Vikings will definitely be bringing in somebody to compete, possibly somebody to start. And there’s a lot of names getting tossed out there as far as potential quarterbacks for the Vikings in 2026. And yeah, if they do it, it doesn’t mean it’s the death nail for JJ McCarthy, but it’s not a good sign. He missed your first year to injury. You’re struggling your second. Now there’s competition you’re third. Doesn’t exactly, you know, vote a lot of confidence in the guy we invested 10th overall pick in just a couple years ago. But we’ve seen the play. We’ve seen how bad it is. Vikings have to do something next year. Yeah. And I think I mean some of the names I I do believe would be a death nail as you say like uh I mean you bring these guys in, you’re paying them a lot of money and giving them compensation. So, there’s free agents, there’s Trey, and again, these aren’t our names. These are the names that are being floated around. So, let’s get into it. Before we do that, be sure to hit that sub. If you’re not subbed and you’re watching, hit that sub. Let’s get I hope you feel guilt if you’re doing that. Feel guilty about it. Feel guilty. You won’t feel guilty when you hit the sub. But let’s get into the first one. And it is the man we just saw. It is Daniel Jones, the one that got away. He went to the Colts, signed that one-year contract, and boy is it paying off for Danny freaking Dimes. The irony of it, you know, the Vikings actually offered him a little bit more money, but he thought he had a better chance to start in Indianapolis. He would have had a good chance to start. He would have been starting by week three here in Minnesota, uh, you know, and an organization he said has helped him, you know, play better. Uh, and he’s he’s kind of cooled off a little bit, but man, he’s having a great year. Uh, he can run, he can throw, he’s he’s ballsy, puts the ball in tight windows. He’s going to cost some money though and I I can’t imagine the Colts are going to let him, you know, not give him a good offer here toward the end of the season. Well, yeah. I mean, you look at Daniel Jones. I mean, he goes to finally a team that is I mean, the Giants are a show. The offensive line was a disaster. He was never set up to succeed there. He goes to a team that has a good old line, a good running back, a great running back, and he’s he’s doing his thing. He’s goes to a very competent franchise, and you’re right, the Colts will probably throw him a bunch of money. He will cost a bunch of money. I think he’s got 20 touchdowns, six pick, I don’t know, something like that. Uh, very, very good season. This is the type of signing that if you sign him, you’re you’re death nail or whatever the hell you called it. He’s n K ne L. It’s like a bell. Yeah. I mean, you sign Daniel Jones, J. McCarthy isn’t competing. It’s Daniel Jones job. He’s done. He’s a backup and we’ll see where he ends up. Yeah. But man, he would look good. He would look good in purple. I got to be honest, all these guys were listed just gives me heartburn. Like I I I don’t I don’t get excited about any of these. Yeah, as soon as they sign Daniel Jones, I’d be very excited. But next up, M. Jones. M. Jones with the Ners right now. Um has again looked very good during his time. Um he is signed through next year, so it would be a trade. This would be a very Sam Darnoldesque type of move. Um he again like the 49ers, good run game, good offense, Shanahan’s offense, he’s a perfect fit for it. So M. Jones. Couple things worrying me here. I’ve heard a second round pick being the compensation. That’s rich for me. Uh, and the dude’s not very mobile behind this old line that we’ve seen uh, struggle a lot, especially with the depth. When you get backups in there, I think he would get absolutely destroyed. But there’s no doubt if you went and got him, he’d likely be your week one starter in 2026. Yeah. I mean, I see M. Jones is a guy like I’ve seen third round. So, like second round, I’m like, okay, I might be out on this one. Third round, I’d be fine. But like I think M. Jones comes in and actually competes. He might blow the blow the doors off of McCarthy, but I think they don’t say like, “Look, you’re going to be the starter. They actually make it a little bit of a competition.” Jones, like you said, he’s a pocket passer. Kurt Cousins was a pocket passer. He did pretty good with some of these weapons here. Uh M. Jones, this would feel dirty um trading for him. Just a be but but it is very Sam Darnold. He’s he’s been on a handful of teams or he’s been traded around. The exact same story. Different player, same story. He’s having a bit of a resurgent, but but man, he’s just not super mobile. I don’t know. Is he one of those guys who’s slick in the pocket? I mean, there’s difference between mobile and but being slick. I don’t know if he’s even slick, but um I don’t love the guy right now. I’ll just say his bread and butter is a quick throws. He gets the ball out of his hand very very quick, which would help an offensive line and being a pocket passer in this offense. Uh unfortunately, we don’t run very quick plays. He’s kind of a will breaker to quarterbacks. He’s kind of a nerd back there. Um but I think I I get behind it. It wouldn’t take me long. Again, if it’s if it’s a third round pick and Quasi is still the GM, then you’re probably like, “Okay, fine. He’s going to blow that pick anyway, so let’s do it.” Yeah. And the third round pick would probably be the comp pick um that we’re probably going to get. Uh but M. Jones definitely a very hot name. Might be the hottest name out of this as far as Lincoln Vikings. Next up, Kyler Freaking Murray. Kyler Murray, his days in Arizona appear to be all but done. Um everyone’s saying he’s going to get traded this off season. Uh Kyler Murray to me, this is a guy who uh when he’s on he’s good. Like he’s he can be really really good at times for stretches and then when he’s bad though, the bad is just so damn bad. And which that’s an upgrade from what we’ve been seeing lately. We’ve just been seeing bad bad bad quarterback play. Uh he’s mobile. Uh he he’s electric. He can he’s electric down the field. Is he going to be a quarterback in a couple years? Is he going to have that resurgence like some of these other ones on this list? Maybe. I don’t know. I mean, if it’s a pretty low pick, I’d be fine with that. Fifth, sixth, compete with McCarthy. At least he got something there. Well, I don’t want to burst your bubble, but they’re saying it could be a first round pick to get Oh my god. No. Uh, it is it was this would be very, uh, high compensation, at least as far as what the writers are saying, the media is saying it would be first, possibly second. He does come with, I believe, a pretty hefty price as well. Kyler Murray, honestly, out of this, like, as far as what they’d have to give up, th this would be my least favorite. God, no. I no idea if first was even being considered. It’d be fun to watch for a little bit, but I don’t know if he really fits this fits this offense very well. Does anybody right now? Well, I mean, I don’t know. I mean, if you if you Tyler Murray, is is Justin Jefferson really going to be that happy again? I don’t know. I don’t know. And what’s KC going to do? Make him a pocket passer like he did with Josh Dobs? Is he gonna let him use his abilities? No. He’s gonna take that away from him. Make him a pocket passer. It’s not gonna work. So, no. All right. The last one. Believe it or not, this is actually legit. This is legit. It’s Aaron Rodgers. Uh, again, having a good season with Pittsburgh. Just turned 42, would be 43 next year. Um, but you know what? I I like this one better than Murray. I probably like it better in Daniel Jones. Here’s the thing. Why were we against it before? He’s going to take away from McCarthy. He’ll be a bad influence to McCarthy. He didn’t come here. McCarthy’s not done well. Like at this point, yeah, why not fulfill the prophecy? Let’s have it happen. I’m here for it. It would be fun as hell season. Yeah. Is he what he used to be? No. Is he a dick? Maybe. He’s a little eccentric. That’s for damn sure. Look, he doesn’t even smile for his pitcher there. There he is. I don’t think he knew it was coming. Um, there was flirtation between him and the Vikings. They talked. There was the discussions. KC is a fan. They seem to have mutual respect for each other. It makes sense. I like the part that he’s a free agent. no draft compensation. Um I was against before there’s flirtation and and and regret. The Vikings, you can’t say in the Vikings front office right now, they do not regret signing Aaron Rogers. What he’s doing in Pittsburgh, you know, like you said, he’s not the Aaron Rogers of old, but I think he’s got 19 touchdowns. He’s six interceptions, something like that. Playing very well, getting his ass kicked in Pittsburgh all up and down. But, uh he’s got another year left in him. He’s got another year left in him. I would do this just for entertainment purposes. what we’ve been through this year. This would at least be fun to watch. Maybe you can’t tell me he wouldn’t not love another shot of a full circuit at the NFC North again. Like one last facing the Bears twice, Lions twice, Packers twice. He would love that. Uh inflate his ego if he could go there and, you know, especially run the table. It would be fun. This has been such bad football to watch lately. Aaron Rogers coming in. Uh it’ be a hoot as they say. It would be a damn hoot. Remember, give a hoot, don’t pollute. Uh yeah. So these guys, these are the biggest names right now. I mean, there’s the Jameus Winston still getting thrown on. You’re always going to see the uh who was it? Jimmy Garopppolo’s guys like that. I just hope whoever they bring in isn’t just a pawn. It’s like somebody that’s actually going to compete with JJ McCarthy. And may the best man win. Yeah. And I think they have to and I think they will. I think they’ve seen enough. I And we’ll see what happens Sunday. It sounds like McCarthy’s going to start if he shows any progress or if it’s more of the same, then I think this is only get hotter. I I think I think McCarthy could actually look very very well these last five games. There’s Dwayne Hilder still not bringing somebody in. Oh, they have to. They have to. Especially seeing Brosman play. I mean, he might be a backup one day. Sure as hell ain’t close to that right now. All right, let us know in the comments any of these guys tickle your fancy. Do you want to bring somebody in? You just want JJ to roll with it. All right, guys. Remember this Pacific walrus is the largest walrus subspecies weighing between 1,800 and 3,700 lb. It’s a big walrus.

  1. Kylar Murray is the guy. Former Heisman winner, 1st overall pick, NFL offensive ROY, all rookie team, two time pro bowler, etc. He’s won every award you can possibly win. Still young and signed through 2028. Probably just needs a fresh start. Would look good in purple.

  2. Next year, next year. Always what LOSERS say. There is NO quarterback that anyone wants. It’s all bull πŸ‚ wake up!!!! The Vikings will NEVER win and only fools still think they even MIGHT win in the next three hundred years.

  3. Mediocre QBs who MAY get you to the playoffs then bounced. You get a vet backup, let McCarthy figure it out through next year and if he fails again the new coach and GM get a top 5 pick in a loaded 2027 QB draft class

  4. I’ve been a Viking fan for 30+ years. When are you going to fix your state so I can watch a home game not in England? Wish I never chose this team to cheer for, especially now knowing what it’s like there let alone never having hope for the team itself

  5. Man fuck all these guys. We need a dam o line. No fn body is gonna do shit with the scrubs we got and that includes CD. He’s always hurt. OLine. O fucking line. Murray is the best option if we have a line

  6. I know it's not a sexy name, but he's got an arm, he's mobile, he's only 32 and he won't require draft compensation or a bunch of money. We'll even get to see him on Sunday. Marcus Mariota. I don't want to see them give up anything more than a 4th if they're going to trade for a QB. Hell, I still think Will Levis could be a high end backup in this league. There are more options out there than the low hanging fruit the talking heads keep bringing up. With 10 picks I would even take a day 3 swing at a QB like Beck or Allar.
