đź”´ LIVE : Seattle Mariners vs Detroit Tigers | Oct 8th ALDS POSTSEASON | MLB THE SHOW 25 SIMULATION
to get started here. So, here’s the lefty TK Scoo. Well, he comes at hitters with a five pitch mix. So, for him, it’s always interesting to see how he utilizes those weapons. He may lean on one or two pitches depending on how things are going and how things are working. But if he can control four or even five, look out. It’s going to be a tough day. He’s really going to be able to keep those guys off balance. Randy Roserena, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one. And the lefty kicks, delivers. And another ball. [Applause] And there’s a rocket into the outfield. man aboard on the leadoff single. Well, that was one of those high percentage advantage counts where batting averages are just so much higher against good pitchers. You got to take advantage of the mistakes. That was right in his wheelhouse and he didn’t miss a stitch. to the batter now Cal Raleigh [Applause] and a first pitch fast is in for a strike. A Rosarena gets his lead at first with nobody out inside. Just missed. Boo. He never moved cuz he never had time to. With that kind of velocity, you’d prefer that pitcher work away. Ball to strike. Yeah, that’s fouled off. [Applause] Cuts on it and misses. That’s a strike out. some high cheese for strike three. But that kind of velocity, an elevated fast, even if it’s still in the strike zone, can be tough for hitters to get on top of. And now it’s Julio Rodriguez. And that drops in for a strike. The Mariners knew what they had. signed him in July of 2017 for a little under $2 million when Rodriguez was just 16 years old out of the Dominican Republic. Swing and a miss 0 and two. Fast forward to 2022 for Julio Rodriguez to win the rookie of the year. The Seattle Mariners were then compensated with the 29th overall pick in the first round of the draft in 2023. part of the new CBA enticing teams to promote their good young players. [Applause] The batter now Jorge Palano a switch hitter batting right swings and blasts one deep to left center. High bounce over the fence for an automatic double. Off the bat, I thought they were going to score their first run of the game. And that feels like a tough break. But look at the bright side. Really good contact at the plate. And now they’re working with not just one, but two runners in scoring position. So they’d love another base hit right here. So to a board and two outs, scoreless game. Aueno Suarez up to the plate now. And that’s in for a strike. the 01. Strike two. And there’s a real chance they get out of this without allowing a run. And that skips in the dirt. [Applause] Hard hit right side. Throw on to Torqulson. That’s the third out. So they strand a pair. And now the Tigers get their first opportunity. No score. Back here with my pal Singi and today’s starting pitcher, Luis Castile. Four pitch guy. He’s got some options to work with in terms of keeping hitters off balance. So, we’ll see how he decides to utilize those weapons through this start here and whether or not he’s able to mix them all in early or if he wants to hold something back a little bit later, maybe second, third time through the order and give them something they haven’t seen. It’s tough when you know a guy’s got that in his back pocket. As a hitter, you really have to stay on your toes. Glabber Torres leading things off and takes a strike. [Applause] Next offering is in for a strike. Two really good backto-back sliders now in an 02 count. He’s feeling real confident about finishing this hitter off. He can go anywhere he wants. Swing at a highf fly ball. That’s out to center. Makes the catch for the out. Let’s check out their lineup for this must-win contest at Singing. Their production in the postseason has been underwhelming. It’s usually not great to have your whole team below the Mendoza line. Boo. These bats have been ice cold and if they don’t want their season to end in disappointment, they’re going to need to make some noise in this ball game. Carrie Carpenter the next to hit. [Applause] Just missed. [Applause] And a breaking ball drops in for a strike. One out. Base is empty. [Music] Hard grounder into the outfield for a knock. So, a man aboard now with one away. Batting third left fielder. There’s Riley Green. Green right through there for a strike. [Applause] And that is cut on and missed. 0 and two now. He’s trying to stay away from this lefty knowing that a lot of left-handers like the ball down and in. [Applause] Sharp grounder. That’s through for a base hit. They get it in quickly. So, first and second now, one out. Well, that certainly feels good when you can win the at being down in the count up against it with two strikes right there. He wasn’t able to elevate it, but he put a great swing on it right on time, good balanced approach, and just blasted it through the infield. First and second, one out. Torqulson getting ready to hit at 96. That pitch is in for a strike. [Applause] Runners at first and second with one gone during game four of this ALDS. Founding ball here. Rolls foul. goes down looking. Well, you got to be ready to swing the bat with a runner scoring position in a few strikes. Just put the ball in place somewhere and you got a chance. Very frustrating for him, I’m sure. See if the next guy can pick him up. Now it’s going to be Colt Keith going along. Squirts away a little bit. No advance. Good job behind the dish. Swing and a miss. Stuck him out. Couldn’t catch up to the heater. A lot of adrenaline. We can see it right there. And sometimes you just got to let it out. That’s an outstanding job of taking that, executing, and getting out of a tough inning. [Applause] Game four of the division series and now it’s Josh Naylor. It’s amazing. We get a chance to talk to a lot of opposing managers. This guy scares managers on the other team as much as anyone. And he gets to fly beneath the radar with the other more recognizable names in this lineup. Jack win around 01. Swang at a highf fly ball. Well struck. That one’s back. Puts it away for the batting seven catcher Mitch Garver. Mitch Garver up to hit here. Swing and a pop up. Torqulson. He’s got it. There’s two away. That was a good pitch to hit right down the heart of the plate. Had pretty good timing on it. Just got underneath it a little bit and popped it up. Two out. Base is empty. Now it’s the veteran outfielder Victor Robless. [Applause] Popped foul out of play off to the right. [Applause] Two outs. Pitch misses there. And one and one. Swag and a miss. Boom. That’s Cheddar, baby. He’s dealing with a great two- strike hitter right here. The strikeout is not automatic. Two down to. And it’s even up. No score here in the second. [Applause] Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Andy’s registered three Ks in this one. Mariners go down quietly there. We’ll go to the bottom of the second. No score. Back here in Detroit. Bottom of the inning. Now here’s the Detroit catcher Dylan Dingler. Castillo back to work. That one missed. Just missed. Larry Bullard making the calls behind the plate for us in this one. Pretty good strike zone. Well reviewed by those we talked to around the league. Yeah, he’s an umpire. He doesn’t get a lot of looks from players. Maybe here and there once in a while, but he’s appreciated back there. [Applause] That one fouled off. Two and two. [Applause] This one in the air. Right field. Robless on the move. He’s got it. And there’s one down. Those can be pretty fun as an outfielder. to put it into his highest gear and go a long way to track that one down. Nothing better than that. You feel like a wide receiver playing football. Zack McKinstry stands in here. Tried to hold back his swing there, but went around. Ball one there. [Applause] Next pitch is outside. [Applause] One down. Base is empty. Popped up. Foul territory behind the plate. He’s got it. Two down. Betting eight. Shortstop. Javier Bayz. Jav Bayz digs in right side. Sing. You talk about a guy that has all the skills. The range is really good, but the arm just stands out and he makes all the plays [Applause] and he takes the strike. And because of that big power arm, he’s able to play a little bit deeper, make throws from the outfield grass all the way across the diamond and still get a pretty good runner. That’s impressive. Robless hauls it into Indiana. We’ll move to the third with no score. [Applause] And we’re back. Well, here we go. Top of the third scoreless game. And stepping in for the Mariners, JP Crawford. The shorts stop takes a ball. [Applause] Swinging a foul straight back. and he can’t come up with it. Still manages a throw and it’s in time. It wasn’t the smoothest play you’ll see today, but they still get the out. Randy Roserena. Now it’s Randy Rosarena. He’s one for one. Let off the game with a single [Applause] right side. Hard hit and that quickly two away. Now batting the designated hitter Cal Raleigh. Next is the DH a switch hitter. Cal Raleigh struck out swinging his first time. [Applause] Here’s a swing and a drive left field and he knew it. He’ll circle the bases and the Mariners have the lead. It’s one- nothing. That’s a fun way to take the lead. Just hit one out of the park. [Applause] When a guy’s got a real hard fast ball, you can’t overswing. All you got to do is get the bat head to the spot. If you do, He supplies the power and you’ll get to jog around the bases like he did right there. Two down, base is empty. Julio Rodriguez digs in now. Ripped on the ground to second. Throw on to Torqulson. Rodriguez out of the play. And that is the third out of the inning. But the Mariners draw first blood here on this solo homer. It’s now one- nothing. You’re watching the American League Division series on the show and welcome back to the ballpark. Here’s the center fielder, Parker Meadows. Parker Meadows. [Applause] Meadows hitting ninth in today’s lineup and he was a second round pick back in 2018. [Applause] The next pitch misses and the count two and one. Swinging a foul straight back and that one missing inside. had a sharp slider. Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. Lift it in the air. Right field. Robless sizing this one up. Makes the grab. One away. Now that fabricated hitter. So the batting order turns over. Glabber Torres up to the plate. 0 for one with a fly out to center and Glaver takes outside. [Applause] Slapped hard the other way but foul. and a base hit. So they get a man aboard with a one out single. Everything came together for him. I can watch base hits like that all day long and so can every head coach in the league. Just a nice line drive into center field. And up next for Detroit, Carrie Carpenter. One for one with a single so far. Grounder might be two. Over to Palanco. They get one. And that’s two. No runs, one hit, no errors, and no one left. Three innings in the books here in game four. It’s the Mariners one and the Tigers nothing. [Applause] Back at Kame Park onto the fourth. That was the second base, Jorge Palano. [Applause] And that’s in there at the knees. He’s been pitching well, but we’ll see what kind of adjustment the hitters make this second time through the order. We’ll know if he’s got really good stuff in this one or not. Swinging a foul out of play. [Applause] Up and in. And that is ball one. [Applause] And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. That’s towards center. One down. Now batting third base Au Suarez up to hit now. 0 for one so far. Ball one, no strikes. [Applause] And a swing and a miss. And a strike in there. Bases empty, one away here in game four of this ALDS outside with a breaking ball. [Applause] Foul ball. Another 2-2 upcoming. [Applause] One down, base is empty. And that one almost got him. Fouled off again and it remains three and two. Outside and that is ball four. It wasn’t easy, but he earned that walk after a long at bat. Man, that’s a tough one to take on the full count, but I guess he saw it really well. It’s a really nice plate appearance. Swinging a drive deep right field. That’s back there and out of here. And they tack on to their lead. It’s three nothing. He only needed one swing to square it up. Not wasting any time in that at bat boo. Aggressive and it paid off. [Applause] A good hitter gets pitch recognition early. He saw exactly where that was going to be. The challenge not get over anxious and come out of your swing. He stayed on it and got all of it at the plate. Mitch Garver. He’s 0 for one. Pitch misses. One and0. [Applause] And another ball. Scoo maybe a little less aggressive on the mound right now after that home run, Chris. Yeah, it seems that way. You know, pitchers, they can come out, feel good, but then all of a sudden get touched up a little bit and they start trying to throw instead of pitch. They’re not trusting their stuff. Fast for a strike. Well, he’s been good for the most part. Is it going to take someone going out to the mound to maybe refocus him a bit? Well, partner, every pitcher is a little different. I I liken it to you. Sometimes you come in and you’re not as focused and I kind of do what it takes to get you on track and then you have a great show. So perhaps it’s the same with him. Nobody really wants their rhythm broken off, but sometimes they need a little pickme up. [Applause] Robless stands in now and watches strike one. That’s a great take right there. Even though it’s a strike with the situation runner on first base, you want to keep the ball off the ground and you swing at that pitch, most likely you roll into a double play. Swings and misses. Struck him out. JP Crawford gets a chance to hit for one and grounded out in his first at foul ball. Garver leads off first with two down to the inning. Next offering is in for a strike. The shorts stop takes the ball on the ground. Bayz, they take the force out and that is that. Two come in on this Seattle homer. It’s now three nothing. This is the American League Division Series on the show. back here in Detroit. Here’s the left fielder, Riley Green. Riley Green. After scoring runs, this is where you’re looking for that shut down inning. Get that hot team back in there to swing the bats. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. Well, these Tigers just lacking discipline at the plate in this ball game. They’re chasing a lot of pitches outside the zone and those chases are turning into a bunch of outs. Can they turn that around and stay within the zone? We’ll see. But I think they have to cut on and miss. Good change up right there. Now one and two. Gets a piece and stays alive. [Applause] [Music] cut on and miss. Struck him out. That K is his third of the game. He had him out in front, which isn’t easy to do against a hitter like this. Known for using the entire field. Just couldn’t sit back long enough on that one. [Applause] Torlson in the box now. No balls in a strike. The Tigers trailing by three. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. Swings and misses and it’s 0 and two quickly in an 02 count. You got to figure out a way to shorten your path to the baseball. Put it in play somewhere. Then you got a chance. Robless pulls it down and he makes the catch. And there’s two down. Man, that’s one of those at bats where you have to remind yourself it’s about the process. He did everything right right there. nothing to show for it, but in your mind, you have to convince yourself that it was a very good at bat. Fought off foul. Two out space is empty. [Applause] Swing and a ball popped in the air. Suarez under it and that’ll do it. Down in order go the Tigers. They trail in this one. Three nothing. Game four of the division series. Now the left fielder Randy Rose Arena. Skoo back to work. Late on that fast ball. Wow. Good luck catching up to that one. [Applause] And a pop up right side foul territory. Torqulson pulls it in and there’s one away. Now batting the designated hitter, Cal Riley. So now the DH spot, Cal Raleigh. He’s already homerred here in this one. And the first pitch misses for ball one. [Applause] And there’s a foul ball. [Applause] One down. Base is empty. And that is out of play. And the one two misses to even the count and that one is inside. He should get a pretty good pitch to hit here with the three-hole hitter coming up if he’s walked. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. He picks up his fifth strike out on the hill. Chris third time through the order and a couple of quick outs for the starter. Yeah, he’s been very frugal today. Economical with the pitch count. And first offering is fouled off. [Applause] And that’s in the dirt. Swing and a miss. And that is strike two. Well, he went inside a couple of times and now outside. Hitter’s not exactly sure where to look for this next pitch. Stays alive. Two down, nobody on. And we’re in the top of the fifth. That misses the zone and it’s two and two. That’s good pitch there. Really had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it. He had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. [Applause] got him swinging and one, two, three go to Mariners, but they lead it three nothing. And we’re back. We head to the bottom of the fifth. And now the catcher comes up to here, Dylan Dingler. and a foul ball. Well, these Tigers, as this game goes on, have to be more disciplined at the plate. Chasing pitches has been a big part of the story. We’ve seen it quite a bit today. It’s been tough for him to make contact at times, and it just doesn’t look like they’re seeing it very well as a group. And on the mound, you know, confidence has to be pretty high with all of the swings and misses. He’s had them eaten out of the palm of his hand pretty much all game. swing and a miss. Struck him out. Make it four strikeouts for him on the bump today. That was a pretty good pitch. Top of the strike zone. We’re seeing more fast balls in that location. Hitter, especially with two strikes, have to be ready to pull the trigger. So digging in Zack McKinstry, he popped out to the catcher his first time out. And that misses and it’s one and0. [Applause] The M’s leading by three. Last half of inning number five. And now two and nothing as that one missed below the knees. Swing and a liner. Foul off to the right. There’s a swing and a drive. And that should be extra bases. And that’s a double. Well, they call that an advantage count for a reason. you’re so much more likely to get something you can handle. Put a pretty good jolt into that one. Great swing, nice balance and weight transfer. And he got it to drop in out there in the deep part of the field. The batter now Javier Bayz flyed to right his first time. just missed. McKinstry over at second. One down. And the slider just misses. And now two balls in a strike. moved to second and he’s back in there at 96. That pitch is in for a strike. That’s a little bit low. That’s foul off to the right side. Keeps the AB going. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. got him looking. He battled for a long time, but it finishes with a strike out. You can’t be mad at yourself after an like that one. Parker now for the Tigers. This is a guy who’s in the line first and foremost because of what he contributes defensively. Chris, when you talk about preventing runs from being scored, this guy is a big contributor. fast ball for a strike at 95. I was always told it’s hard to take you off the field when you play really good defense, especially at a premier position. And that’s what he does. The hitting’s going to come around. He’s going to figure it out. But right now, his big asset is the way he plays the game on defense. That misses the zone. And that’s ball one. [Applause] Knocks that one away. And we’ll do it again. [Applause] Swing and a miss. And that is that. He continues to roll on the mound as five shutout innings are in the books. It’s the Mariners three and the Tigers nothing. Now pitching. We’re back and they make a change to start the six. The new pitcher, Kaider Montero. Pretty tight game, so they’re looking for quality pitches out of him right here. Got to do his best to keep the score right where it is. Here’s the second base, Jorge Palco. Palanco. Well, both sides equally as strong. So, not a good time to try to turn him around with a relief pitcher and put him on the other side of the plate. And that one fouled off. Monttero goes 6’1. He features a four seam fast, a slider, a slur, a change up, and he works in a sinker. The O2 swing and a miss. Struck him out. That’s tough. You see it well. I mean, that was clearly up and out of the strike zone, but that’s one of the hardest things when you see a pitch out of the hand at eye level. That discipline to remember, I can’t hit that pitch. If I can see it really well at eye level, I can’t catch up to that pitch when a pitcher’s got this kind of velocity. Tigers bullpen with some action. Tyler Holton getting ready to go. Melton also throwing [Applause] the 01 breaking ball misses down and away. Bases empty, one away here in game four of this ALDS. Hard grounder into the outfield for a knock. Well, maybe that will end up getting him going. Yeah, he really simplified there. Kept his shoulders square to the plate and wasn’t trying to overswing. I think that’s the key for him to have success through the rest of this series. Here’s Josh Naylor. He had a big swing back in the fourth, a two-run homer, and that helped them get the lead. And what a swing it was, Boo. Poetry in motion. And those are the type that you hardly feel when you connect with the baseball. Just so smooth. A great feeling off the bat. [Applause] Pulls that one foul. That misses. One and one. Man at first. One away. Swing and a ball drilled in the air towards right center field. Makes the catch. Two down. Now batting catcher Mitch Garver. Mitch Garver up next for the Mariners [Applause] and that one is inside ball one. [Applause] Next offering is fouled back. Instead of letting the hitter get his arms extended, tied him up a little bit. Slightly up, slightly in. [Applause] Out towards left center. Meadows on his way over. Nabs it. And that’ll do it. Mariners lead one, but they lead it three nothing. [Applause] ready to go for the last half of the and here’s the Tiger leadoff man Torres Torres that one fouled off now the one CL swings drives one and it’s off the wall. Throws to second. Not in time. That’s a leadoff double. A late jump. And I think that was the difference on the play. It’s not always easy seeing the ball off the bat. Something to improve. Runner in scoring position. No outs. Carpenter will hit next. That’s outside. Ball one. Well, here’s a good opportunity in this inning to get on the scoreboard after that leadoff hit. And hardly order coming up right behind them. This is where they need to get going. Runner in scoring position. Nobody out here in the bottom of the six. That misses the zone. Ball two. [Applause] And at second a ground ball and that’s through the infield. Brown’s third headed for the plate. The throw in. It’s offline. The run comes in. It’s 3-1. He was all over that one. Not much to this one other than just a willingness to go the other way and put the ball in play. That’s a team at bat right there. a nice job of staying back and letting the ball get deep. Riley Green up now for the Tigers and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. Rudder at first with no outs here inside and it’s one and one. just off the inside edge. [Applause] Just missed. He hasn’t fallen behind in the count like this all day. He’s in danger of walking his first batter right here. Carpenter on at first. Nobody out. and ball four to a board. Well, we’ve seen this recipe cook up a big inning plenty of times. Two runners on, nobody out, and they’re order. It’s just a great opportunity to put up a crooked number. Manager out of the dugout and he’s going to make a change. Luis Castile won’t go any further and the line not closed on him yet as he’s responsible for the runners on base. Back with a new pitcher after this. Now pitching for pitching change here, Edward Bazardo. And we all know about his slider. It’s just filthy, man. And one of the better ones in the game, I’d say. Spin rates very high and it just breaks a ton. First and second, no outs. Now here’s the Tigers cleanup hitter, Spencer Torqulson. [Applause] and fouled off. First and second here. No outs. Check swing. Now we’ll look down to first. Anyone around? Just enough that time [Applause] and a breaking ball misses outside. Action in the bullpen for Seattle. Gamespire appears to be getting loose. Hancock getting cranked up as well. Keeps the bat going with a foul ball. No outs. Runners at first and second. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. And that is a big first down. You know, you often think of sliders more for that horizontal movement, but most of the good ones have vertical depth and that horizontal movement. And that’s what we saw right there. Good drop on the break and got him to swing over the top. Colt Keith up now for the Tigers. Goal for two in this one. And that misses ball. This offense is fighting for their lives right now. They’re not ready for this season to be over. So they need to dig deep and find a way to get something going. Anything will help. And that’s off the inside edge. And the count is 2-0. And that’s in there at the knees for a strike. One out, runners at first and second. that misses the zone and the count is three and one. Dylan Dingler in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. [Applause] Two on, one out. That’s a strike across the top of the zone. Looked pretty good as far as being in the strike zone, but I’m sure as a hitter not too good with where it was located. Very top of the strike zone. Middle away. Chopper right side. 3-2 on the way and that’ll load the bases. walks out of the bullpin can absolutely kill your momentum very quickly. They’re in some deep water trying to protect this lead. And here’s the catcher, Dylan Dingler. Golden opportunity right here. Got a slider misses down and away. One out. Base is full. Next one misses. Two and0. Pressurees on right here. Two count. Base is loaded. You don’t want to fall to a three ball count and then walk in or on. He’s got to challenge the hitter right here. And that’s downstairs. And now 3 and 0. Going to lay off that pitch down. Ball four and a run comes in to score. Really gotten himself into a mess out there and now forces home a run with the wall. This inning’s definitely getting away from him. Here comes a skipper out of the dugout and he’s ready to make the move. Edward Bazardo is done and he leaves with the bases loaded. So he’ll look for some help from his teammate coming in behind him. Now pitching for so out of the bullpen for the Mariners, Caleb Ferguson. Still a lot of game left and this game could go either way. So this is a big opportunity for him to get some important outs and try to help carry this lead into the later innings. Zack McKinstry up now for the Tigers. And there’s no doubt that they’ll feed off the energy from this crowd, right? I mean, yeah, I’d say the intensity level has gone up a few notches for sure. And that one is in for a strike. Tough situation right here. So important as a pitcher to get ahead in the count as he did right there. swings and misses and it’s nothing in two. BS that off to the left and will do it again. That one just misses. Going to count one and two. This is a situation where the hitter is looking for something up in the zone that he can get his arms extended. What you have to be careful of is that pitch that’s up that’s in on your hands. That’ll pop you up in the infield and that’s exactly what the pitcher wants. Get on the ground to the right side and that’s just foul. This one is blasted. A no doubter grand slam. He muscles that one out of here. And they take the lead. It’s 63. Listen to these fans. This place is absolutely buzzing right now. You can feel the energy all the way up here in our broadcast booth. One big swing and that turns the tables on this one. And when you come to the plate with the bases loaded and you’ve got some pop, you know, it’s hard not to think about the chance to get a grand slam. And that can be a trap sometimes, but not right here. He sees the opportunity, put a great swing on it, and now they’re working with the lead. Now it’s Javier Bayz with a short stop. Takes the ball. [Applause] Still only one out here in the inning. [Applause] Just missed. And that one a little below the knees and it’s 3 and 0. Eddie Walton. You get a walk and you get a walk. Everyone gets a walker. And at first, Parker Meadows now at the plate. And that’s in there at the knees. Always tough to turn two on a speedster like this. It’s even harder with them coming out of the left-handed batter. You really need something to hit hard on the ground that they can handle to turn two quickly. Whacked out to center field. That’s well struck. Rodriguez drop step going back and it flies to the deepest part of the park. No doubt about this one. Home run. A towering shot to center. It’s their second home run of the inning and they boost their lead. It’s 83. That’s a swing that’ll boost the win probability for sure. Took on the big part of the yard for that home run and just barely got it over the wall. I thought for a second he brought it back out there, too. came with a great effort, but you know, those plays are so tough to pull off and I’m sure he’d love to have another shot at it. Manager out of the dugout now and it looks like we’ll see a change on the mound. Caleb Ferguson done for the day and as he heads off, we’ll step aside for a minute. Back with a new pitcher after this break. Pitching for Jackson will take over here. Well, they need someone to stop the bleeding and keep the score right where it is. Seems like a tough task today with the way this lineup is swinging it. Torres at the plate now. That’s ball one. Hit on the ground to short. Crawford on first and Torres retired. Now batting right fielder Carrie Carpenter. Two outs. Base is empty. And next to hit for Detroit, Carrie Carpenter. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] And there’s the strike. Nasty 20 slider there for a strike. That tells you he’s got a lot of confidence in that pitch. Late swing fouled to the left. [Applause] swings and misses on the fast ball up in the zone for the strikeout. But two round tripers in this inning, the long ball was working. It’s now 83. Now pitching. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mound, Troy Melton. And he’s got a nice lead to work with. So he should come in throwing strikes, attacking these hitters. [Applause] Here’s Victor Roas. Three pitch strike out last time off. Got to put up more of a fight in this one. That one misses. And that is Ball Wall. They’ve got a potent lineup. And when you think about teams capable of rallying from this kind of deficit, they’re right at the top of the list. Next offering is in for a strike. In this situation, you expect the batters to be a little more patient, possibly take until they get a strike. With that, you don’t want to miss your opportunity to get ahead early in the count. He didn’t right there. The 1-1 is fouled off. Next pitch, not close. Up high. [Applause] And Robless spoils it. He stays alive. Paxton misses. It’s a strike out. Wow. Just great bite to that slider. Broke hard out of the zone. He just couldn’t hold up the swing. You know, as a hitter, that pitch is really hard to take and there’s just not much you can do with it. You know that, but you don’t want to get rung up by the umpire. Slashes this one and it could be trouble. Around first, heading for two. Around second now, going for three. The relay throw and he’s out. Absolutely perfect execution of the relay right there to cut him down to third. He probably should have shut it down at second base and been happy with the double, but it took a great play to get him. You just have to tip the cap. [Applause] Two down, base is empty. And now for Seattle, Randy Rosena. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. [Applause] Highf fly ball right field. Carpenter has this one sized up. Makes the grab and that’s the third out. [Music] Now pitching for we’re ming a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh. Matt Brash. Matt Brash. 345 do up for the home team. Riley Green getting ready to hit Green. That one’s in there. And that is strike one [Applause] on the ground to the left. Fair ball. Now batting first. So a man at first. And next up for the Tigers, Spencer Torqulson. That one finds the zone and it’s 0 and one. And there’s a ball. Green gets his lead at first. Nobody out in the dirt [Applause] in the air right field. Robless sizes this one up and there’s one down. Up next for the Tigers, second baseman Colt Keith. So up next, Colt Keith. [Applause] Line drive. Crawford offbalance feed. There’s one. What a double play that was. Inning over. No runs, one hit, no errors, and no one left. We look ahead to inning number eight. It’s the Tigers eight and the Mariners three. Now pitching. Welcome back. And a new arm on the mound to start the eighth. Raphael Monttero. Raphael Monttero. And here is Cal Raleigh. He’s already homered in this game. He’s not going to get cheated up there. No, he’s not. He’s looking to do damage with every swing he takes. First pitch misses. [Applause] Tap foul at the plate. Swings over the splitter for strike three. Well, that’s the effect of the splitter that you’re looking for on the mound. Really nice pitch right there and had him out in front over the top. I’m sure the batter was thinking he was getting something else. Perhaps a fast ball a little more straight and below to it. [Applause] Swing and a ground ball and that one gets through into center field. So a man aboard now with one away. I’m sure he feels really good about that one. Just kept it simple. played Pepper with the middle of the infield and took it back where it came from and there was just no one there to knock it down. Jorge Palano up next for the Mariners. One for three and it’s fouled away. [Applause] The Tigers leading by five late here in game four. Next offering is downstairs. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Tyler Holton up and loosening in the pen. Finnegan also getting ready. [Applause] [Applause] fights that one away. Still one and two and downstairs. This guy’s a fun guy to watch taken at bat. He just battles up there. He doesn’t take a pitch off at all. makes it so difficult on the pitchers out there. You can tell they get frustrated with how long it takes to put him away. [Applause] Ground ball could be two. The flip. There’s one double play. What a twin killing to end the inning. No runs, one hit, no errors, and no one left. Home half of inning number eight. Straight ahead, it’s the Tigers eight and the Mariners three. [Applause] Now pitching for now. New pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth. Emerson Hancock. [Applause] Here’s the catcher, Dylan Ding. He is at the top of the game in terms of defense at the catching spot. That one 95 missed up top and it’s one and0. And another ball. It’s so impressive because these guys have to do so much study and preparation for their pitchers, for opposing hitters, and really their number one job is to guide that staff through a ball game. And so when you also can turn it up offensively and be a force there, that is a win-win, every manager’s dream. 3-1 now. That one misses. So a lead off walk, second walk of the game for him. and he’s been really patient at the play. The game plan that he’s sticking to, he’s just not going outside of what he’s looking for up there. Man at first, nobody out. Here’s the third baseman, Zack McKinstre. Just missed. [Applause] That’s in there. And the count even one and one. [Applause] Little bit low. He swings and fouls one off. Dingler gets his lead at first with nobody out. [Applause] Swinging at a ground ball and foul ball 22 now to short could be two. Crawford toss to second relay to first double play. He’s so good at come across the bag and snagging it with the bare hand to throw. I like the flare that he brings day in and day out. Two outs. Space is empty. Javier Bayz up now for the Tigers. [Applause] And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. [Applause] [Music] Way high. Two down, nobody on here in game four of this ALDS. Line to left and foul ball. The shorts stop takes the ball. Next offering misses down and away. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Foul ball and it remains a full cow. [Applause] Good played appearance there. Able to take the walk. That’s a great at bat. He saw a lot of pitches and earned a walk. What a battle. It’s not always easy laying off a 3-2 pitch. And I tell you what, he earned that walk. And first offering is fouled off [Music] [Applause] the other way. Base hit. And now first and second with two outs. Now batting here is Glaver Torres. Glber Torres fly a ball to right. Robless. He’s there. He’s got it. And that is that. Tigers strand a pair, but they lead at 83. [Applause] Now pitching. We’re back. It’s the top of the night and there’s a new pitcher on the mound. Kyle Finnean. Kyle Finnean. And stepping in for the Mariners, Auo Suarez. Auheno Suarez. [Applause] Finnegan, 33 years old, and he was a sixth round draft pick back in 2013. [Applause] Foul ball there. swing and a miss. Struck him out on a splitter. First strike out for him in this one. That splitter is maybe the go-to pitch when he’s looking for a swing and miss like that. He throws it quite a bit and that’s a good example of the effect it can have on a hitter. [Applause] So digging in Josh Naylor. That one catches the zone. It’s 0 and one. Base is empty. One away here in the top of the ninth. [Applause] That’s out to center field. Meadows in position and he makes the catch. Two away now. Now catcher Mitch Garver. So last chance for the Mariners. Now the Mariners catcher Mitch Garver. That one’s in there. That’s strike one. Two outs. [Applause] And now it’s Victor Robless up to hit. 0 for three in this one at 96. That pitch is in for a strike. [Applause] Hit to right and that should do it. And that is the ball game. Heat. Heat. [Applause] Heat. [Applause] Heat. [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Applause] [Music] Heat. Heat.
