doesnt matter if you’re a hater or supporter, this is a no brainer
Exactly. We’ve seen enough to warrant this.
Yeah I know many in here won’t like this but this seems like the most reasonable route to me. If Bryce starts getting more consistent then this would be a win for us. If he doesn’t then it isn’t that big of a gamble to lose.
Also it signals to Bryce that we are still invested which would help his mental game which I feel is his biggest enemy.
That is Graziano’s opinion….not coming from the Panthers…
“It’s hard to really know what the long-term outlook is when the swings are this wild week to week,” Graziano writes. “The Panthers will have to decide by the first week of May whether to pick up his fifth-year option for 2027. I expect them to do that because the cost will be reasonable (around $26.5 million), but then the question becomes what to do after that.”
Maybe not where most teams would hope they’d be drafting a QB number 1 overall, but he’s improved every season he’s been with the team and has us with a winning record in December.
I’d be surprised if he gets a new contract next offseason outside of dominating down the stretch and pushing us to a deep playoff run, but will probably depend how he looks the first half of next season.
Question because I know very little about NFL economics. Obviously Bryce is no top 5 NFL QB talent (or maybe even top 10 for that matter), so will that translate accordingly to what we pay him? I’m sure there’s some institution in place so that teams can’t get away with paying a quarterback less than other players, but in theory, could we give Bryce a weak QB contract and use the money not spent to continue building around him?
I’m salivating at the idea of having a quarterback that only makes $10-$25 million, leaving a ton leftover to go get elite players. Especially given how Bryce has been developing.
And just when I thought this sub was gonna have a lowkey bye week
Ya think lol?
Non-believer here, I have no problem with this. Unless we are drafting a QB this offseason (which seems unlikely with where our first round pick will be), picking up the 5th year makes sense.
Good, better to keep him than gamble on a draft pick this year when there’s no conscious top prospect. If he puts it all together then we have our guy and if not Dan and co can put their attention into getting a guy in what is hopefully a stronger class
It’s 26.5 million dollars estimated, that’s less than Baker, Geno, and Darnold. It’s more than all the rookies and the backups. That’s about as cheap of a QB as you’re going to get there is no middle of the road QB contracts.
I always figured a 6-8 win season would secure Bryce his fifth year option. Whether he gets a serious extension probably depends on if he can do much better next season. I still hope we add more depth to the QB room.
It makes total sense. We’ve got 1 season left on his contract and still don’t really know what he’s going to look like long-term. He’s inconsistent with extremely high highs and stupidly low lows. But he’s also only 24 and has been improving each season and building chemistry with our young receivers & coach.
We’re staring down at a bad QB draft this year and currently aren’t projected to be picking in the top-10. We have other positions on the team that desperately need bolstering. We’re obviously going to start Bryce next season and by then we should know what we have.
By exercising his option, we keep him focused on the Panthers and his development next season. We also guarantee that we’ve got a cheap QB for 2 seasons. Finally, it also means that if we decide he’s a total bust after next season, we can look towards the next QB draft to find his replacement without throwing that replacement directly into the fire, alternatively we can trade him to a much wider range of teams because his cap hit will be much lower than the average QB.
Really nothing for BY haters to be upset about here.

Half of this sub’s 9/11
