Kicker pulls a Charlie Brown and completely misses the ball | New York Giants V New England Patriots

All right. Well, I don’t know if I’ve ever seen this outside of a Charlie Brown cartoon. So, here’s the situation. Lining up for a field goal on fourth down and 10 down 10 points. So, making it a seven-point game would definitely go a long way uh against a team that has five times your wins at this point for the Giants. The kicker is Young Way Coup, who got cut from the Falcons earlier this season, trying to find his way back into regular football here with the Giants. And well, this isn’t going to help. He just I don’t know what happens here. Ultimately, this goes down as a 13yd sack. You see that this is just a a whiff on it. It kind of stubs his foot into the turf. I’m assuming what happened is that he kind of misjudged where he was trying to to kick it. Uh misjudged where he’s trying to stand and stands a little bit too far. Although I checked over. This is the other uh the other extra point that he uh attempted and made which is not from too much further of a distance. It seems like his plant foot is down in mostly the same area both times. So, uh I don’t fully get what happened here. Ultimately though, just uh you know, Troy Aman said it on the broadcast and I agree. Just kind of been that season for Young Way Coup.

  3. 😂 now I know why we cut him loose I'm like wtf we have no FG kicker I'm ATL wtf is this where did he go now I see why😂😂 Yeah either he was drunk or did it on purpose a kicker has one job and missing is one thing but missing the ball entirely as a kicker at least Charly Brown had the ball snatched from him 😂😂 this is worse!!!

  5. I have never seen anything like that in all my life watching football. What is even worse is hearing his explanation of what happened. "The ball moved" Bro, like we do not have replay. Just say you fucked up. 🤣

  9. Giants should be bringing in kickers this week. Anyone else. This is beyond embarrassing. The problem here is Giants don't value kickers. Kickers are so very valuable and they should know that but don't appear to. They should draft a highly thought of one from college or sign one in free agency in the off season. Their infatuation with oft-injured Graham Gano is mind blowing. They have lost a number of games over the last few years because Gano injures himself during or before a game and they never find good replacements who miss extra points and short field goals or who are so bad the coach goes for it on fourth down and long. Meanwhile, all this happens as they frequently lose games when the kicker from the other team successfully kicks a long field goal at the gun! Ridiculous. Terrible organization! But missing the ball on the kick. Never saw that in an NFL game before. By the way their punter is pretty lame as well! Since they are into firing coaches this year the Special Teams coach should be the next to go. Not just for this but for the frequent games lost because of bad kicking!

  10. Terrible video. There are other videos that show the tip of the ball on the ground slipped outward on his legs backswing which caused kicker to abort the kick. You’ve gotta do better than this video

  11. As a former hs kicker I can provide insight. His statement of wanting to "pull up" on the kick is consistent with what he was doing.

    The problem for him is he didn't verbalize that to his team. A kicker will have an abort phrase to shout in repetition to cause the holder to bail, and the gunners (eligible blockers) to break contain and run routes. I used "Charlie Brown" or "Lucy", however "fire" is pretty common. They either didn't hear him, or he didn't say it.

    This creates a problem, if the holder is expecting you to kick he won't bail and the kicker, once he enters the plant/wind up has two abort options, neither are good, a)swing next to the ball and miss it (risking kicking your plant foot) or bury your toes in the turf (what Younghue Koo did). But the play was doomed because the gunners didn't know to break contain and run routes.

  13. The equivalent of when a receiver takes his eyes off the ball to turn a big play up field, proceeds to drop said pass. This is a bigger fudge up though.
