He rebuilt the offensive line, upgraded the wide receiver room, and stacked playmakers on all three levels of the defense. but he left the running back depth way too thin and didn’t fix it at the trade deadline. After Antonio Gibson went down back in week five, it was basically mandatory to bring in at least one more reliable back to stabilize the backfield. Verable trusted what he had. Bet they could ride it out and now he’s flirting with disaster. If Henderson goes down, there is no real plan B. Sure, you’ve got Dernis Johnson and Craig Reynolds on the practice squad, guys who can step in and give you snaps, but they don’t carry the same weight when the job is to keep defenses honest in January. Standing pat at the deadline might end up being one of those decisions that comes back to haunt you in the middle of a playoff run. And if this team stumbles because the backfield collapsed, nobody is going to want to hear the word rebuild after starting 11 and two.
