The Spurs have a GOLDEN opportunity…
The entire landscape of the NBA just shifted after tensions have been rising in Milwaukee and Giannis’ future came into question. Sham Shirana dropped one of the biggest reports of the season indicating that Giannis is exploring his future with the Bucks. And with the San Antonio Spurs being linked to him before the Spurs have now emerged as one of the front runners for many people in terms of a Giannis and Tetakmpo sweep stakes and the report is insane. We’re going to break down all of this, how the Spurs could manage to land Giannis Antenna, what it would take, and whether the Spurs should even do this. And look, first off, we got to just get into this report. Giannis and his agent, Alex Saratis, have started conversations with the Milwaukee Bucks about the two-time NBA MVP’s future and discussing whether his best fit is staying or elsewhere. A resolution is expected in the coming weeks. This is happening quickly. So, before we get into anything, do you want Giannis Antakmpo to be a San Antonio Spur? Type yes for yes, type no for no. Ignore, you know what? Think about your trade packages yourself. I want to see yeses or nos in the comments section. I’ll be giving hearts out. I’ll be replying to a bunch of them. And also, we’ll get into some trade proposals later. But got to hear from you right now because this is one of the craziest things. And naturally, look, the San Antonio Spurs have been linked to Giannis before. You guys have seen it on the channel. We’ve talked about it a lot. My opinion, I don’t think we should do it. And look, I’m going to defend myself later, but that’s my hard stance. I don’t think it’s something that’s worth doing for the Spurs and I will explore that a bit later and give some reasoning behind why I’m not for this but it the Spurs are still going to be in this conversation absolutely no matter what for a multitude of reasons and we’re already seeing people talk about Giannis to San Antonio. We got I just took a couple random tweets. I saw this one here. My guess is Giannis ends up a spur from Chris Albert and none from insiders here, but just people’s opinions, right? Something along the lines of Kell Vel, Harrison Barnes, and some picks. That’s not going to get it done. I’m going to be honest if Giannis is is on the trade block. RM saying the Spurs would be a movie, not going to lie. We got some uh some other accounts tweeting out mock trades already. Harrison Barnes, Kelton Johnson, Stfan Castle, Jeremy Sohan, and picks for Jiannisko. I think we’re getting a bit closer there. But this is what I’m saying. Like within the minutes of Shems dropping this report, the Giannis to the Spurs talk has picked up like crazy on social media. And again, for good reason, cuz we’ve been linked there before. So, let’s take a deep dive here into Giannis and what do you bring to the Spurs and what the Spurs payroll would look like here because Giannis is a huge contract. We all know this, right? 54 million this year, 58 next year, and a $63 million player option in 2728. So, you need to get rid of a lot of salary and it definitely makes your cilario picture a lot more complicated. And look, Giannis is incredible. Actually, his last name is so long that it bugs out the graphic. Anyway, we know his height, but regardless, 30.6 points per game, 10.7 rebounds, 6.4 assists, one steal, one block. This is one of the, by the way, a 44% 3-1 percentage this year. Look, not probably not sustainable, but pretty crazy. Giannis is straight up one of the greatest players of all time. Top 50 all-time player. You could argue for a lot higher. five-time alldefensive player. He’s got a finals MVP. He’s got an NBA championship. He’s won the decoy. He has two MVPs. Straight up. Him on any team is making them a contender no matter what. And look, I know the Bucks are struggling, but like you get the right personnel, some decent players around him. It’s absolutely a team that would be at least one of the favorites for a title. And if you add in what is projecting to be one of the greatest defenders in NBA history and Victor Wanyama, how do you look at that and not say, geez, who is scoring on this team, right? How do you say like, wow, yeah, and I don’t know, the fit’s questionable. I would agree. I don’t know if the Spurs are really going to do it with him. The Spurs right now, we’re six and two without Vic and Stefan Castle. Like, I just I think Giannis on the Spurs makes the Spurs better, but there’s more than one reason why I just don’t see this happening. And look, right now the Spurs have a ton of assets. And this is why again I think it’s very feasible. We got picks, we got pick swaps, we got that Atlanta thing, Bulls pick, Celtics, and we got the Mavericks there in 2030. So there’s a lot of leverage that we have now, especially with the Spurs turning a corner, looking to be like a top four, five seed in the West this year. Our draft picks are becoming less and less valuable, which is why having other teams draft picks is very good, not only for ourselves to sustain our success, but also to give to other teams if a kind of big trade like this falls in our lap. So look, the Spurs have already decided to make big moves bringing in De’Aran Fox last year when Sham said the same thing that the Kings were open to exploring trading him. And now the Giannis is, you know, right there. And again, the Spurs were expected to be a team to watch. The Spurs had made some calls. The problem is what the trade package would be. And I’m going to circle back to this one here that I saw. And I think this is maybe getting kind of close, but even this right here, you got 16.5 million tied up in Castle and Sohan. And then you got 36.5 million between Kelvin Johnson and Harrison Barnes. So you’re getting close to that Giannis money. But when you look at the Spurs payroll here, making room for him longterm is hard, especially because next year De’aran Fox’s contract is going up by $13 million. Harrison Barnes is coming off the books. Kelly Oolen coming off the books at 13 million. But you also have to consider the fact that Victor Webinama’s extension is going to kick in in the last year, that player option of Giannis’ contract. So, right when you need to probably extend him, you’ll need to extend Giannis and Vic and Stefont Castle and Dylan Harper all right around the same time while Dearan Fox is making max money. Now, you know, I say those names like Harper, like Castle, but right now, is it even worth doing that? Like, look, maybe I’m crazy. Maybe you guys agree or disagree. Leave me your Giannis mock trades down below. But if I’m looking at the future of the San Antonio Spurs and I’m considering what will make the San Antonio Spurs elite for years and years to come, we have Victor Webbyama who’s 21 almost 22 years old. You want to maximize every year he has. So on that end, it’s like bring in Giannis, you you can easily try and get a title right now, but it’s going to cost one of Castle. Well, Kelton Johnson, Harrison, Barnes, it’s going to cost one of Castle or Harper. And I think Castle is the guy that a lot of people are talking more about. And look, whichever one you’d want to give up in a trade, whatever. Like I maybe it is Castle at this point. I’m pretty high on Dylan Harper, but they’re both insane. They’re both so good. Giving up one maybe two of these guys plus some depth like Kelvin Johnson who has been so so good off the bench this year playing his role for a couple of years of Giannis. Like it there’s no guarantee he even opts in in 2728. He could look for a bigger contract, a longer term extension as he’s, you know, he gets past 30 years old. He’s like 31, 32. I think he’d be what, 33, 34 around that point. So, he’d want that long-term fouryear, 5year extension, whatever, to just get him there into his late 30s and make as much money as he can. So, you’re really only guaranteeing one and a half years of Giannis. Yes, he could opt in or extend. That’s true. But, if you’re giving up guys like Castle or Harper and look, I’m not saying I wouldn’t do Castle for Giannis one for one. Of course, I would, right? Like, I I think that’d be crazy to say no. But when he’s part of a bigger package and you’re looking at the the a Spurs team that you want to have like perennial success to me, it’s like I don’t know. Castle and Harper along with WBY along with Fox, it makes a lot of sense. And I and I understand too like having De’Aran Fox does make some of these guys expendable. Like having De’Aran Fox would make either Harper or Castle more expendable than in the past. So you’d be a little less hurt giving up someone like that in a trade for Giannis. But at the same time, it’s like I don’t know. I if I want to see 10 10 years of success, 15 years of success with this team, it starts with Wemi, Harper, Castle, and some of those depth pieces. And look, those depth pieces will be interchangeable, but throwing a Giannis wrench right into the middle of that, it it’s hard. It’s really hard to make that work with a trade now, figuring out the extensions in the future, giving up a bunch of draft capital for a pretty short guarantee. Look, if he extended longterm and he ages gracefully, it’s going to be great. The Spurs could absolutely use Brian Wright, use some of his magic to bring in a bunch of shooters to really make a team that works well with Giannis. We see when Giannis has shooters around him, the team is a lot better. Just like we said about LeBron for so many years. And right now, the Spurs three-point shooting has not been great. And look, even in these mock trades, we’re giving up Vel. We’re giving up Harrison Barnes. Basically, the only shooting on the team to bring well, not the only shooting, but some of the only shooting, some of the top end shooting to bring in a guy who can’t shoot. So, yeah, I know Giannis is three-point percentage higher this year, but look, let me know your thoughts because to me, I I don’t see this going down, but if Giannis is getting traded all of a sudden, like, look, they’re going to be fielding a ton of crazy offers. I got to imagine the Spurs are at least going to check in. I don’t love the idea, but I’d love to hear your thoughts. Leave them down below. That’ll do it for this episode. Look, we got a big game tonight, back-to-back Orlando. Leave your thoughts on everything down below. Can’t wait to see what goes on with this Yanaga. I’m your host Josh Goss and I’ll catch you in the next
A major report from Shams Charania indicates Giannis Antetokounmpo may be moved from the Bucks in the coming weeks and this presents a GOLDEN opportunity for the San Antonio Spurs. Josh Gosse breaks it all down on this episode of Spurs Digest.

Do you agree with Josh saying it's not worth it? This opportunity rarely comes up in the NBA to trade for a great, but it'll cost a LOT…
No
No. Two words, spacing, and depth.
I get it I love or team As is? But what if Wemby is plagued with more injuries due to his Blood disorder, than we have a bunch of player and no # 1? Gi would be an Insurance policy.
Yes but not to sacrifice the team best players
Nope I’m good. Giannis has a weird personality, just let the young guys find something before you make a big trade again.
no, he is too old
Man I thought we were done with this bullshit.
We're not trading away our depth for one player. Stupid franchises do that, we're better than that.
Nah all those years of rebuidling and shipping your young guns with lots of high ceiling is downright stupid.
I am even pleased with Fox on the lineup. Even are vets are playing really great.
Giannis expressed his interest in joining the Knicks last off season.
Castle, Sochan, 1st, and 2nd.
We winning this year and the next 3 health permitting
Giannis for the short term sounds good
Spurs dont need Giannis..go somewhere else…we dont need nor want him!!! Our team as constructed is just fine
This guy has a questionable tag before every game. He’s on the backside of his prime. I would be pissed if the spurs trade any of are guys. They better not do that
For me no giannis is demanding I don't like him in San antonio lauri markkanen it's good
Yes if its a trade in our favor and we maintain our depth.
No reason to do that, let another team ruin their franchise. We are winning games this year without him
How about NO
We don't need Giannis right now we just need a trey murphy or Lauri type of guy (big 2 way wing with a good 3pt shot) because Barnes is getting older but it carter bryant improve to the level of a Hunter or Dyson daniel then we won't need to do any moves
Yes we need him
If they end up making a deal, I hope to f*ing God they don’t include Harper! Trade any guard here except this young fella! he’s a superstar, 1000%.
Id pick Lauri over Giannis
No. No. No.
Yes
Giannis would be hard to pass on but we would need to keep our guards. The package should revolve around Vassel, Sochan, KJ and/or Barnes plus Olynyk and some picks. Otherwise, it is not worth it.
It’s worth cashing in now if you’re the spurs. Wemby may have a shorter career
Vassal
Sochan
Julian
2 first
2 second
Gets the deal done
no…not gonna happen, let it go
Here we go with more stupidity
Of course YES
Nope. Differente timeline. Too many costs
not even for draft picks only
yes
No need. Too costly.
Man spurs team chemistry was off the chart. Im good with what we have rn. I love the idea though but its hard to get depth like we have rn specially on west.
IT'S A TRAP!!!
NO. Please no. I dont want him here
We dont want him look at the comments 😂😂😂
