SCHWARBER DOWN TO FINAL FOUR? | Cubs Eyeing SP | Cubs Baseball Rumors

Please don’t tell me bringing Kyle Schwarber back to the Cubs is a pipe dream. I don’t want to hear that. But the experts are saying that there are four teams that are emerging as likely destinations and none of them are the Cubs. We’re going to talk about that. John Haymon says that the Cubs have zeroed in on three starters. That would be middle to front end guys. We’ll talk that. and the Cubs signed a utility guy to a minor league deal with a really good shot to make the team. All that right here on the Cubs baseball channel. [Music] [Applause] [Music] What do you say everybody? Mick Gillespie Cubs Baseball Channel. We talk Cubs baseball every day here. We love the Cubs. Uh, all right. Let’s I want to get into this. Kyle Schwarber top four list out and I don’t like when I see this and this was uh put out by Clutch Points on Yahoo, but uh they say that there are four teams in the mix to sign Kyle Schwarber. Of course, the Phillies who he played for last year and they’ve made it clear that they want him back. the Reds. Another team that would be really interesting because he’s from that area. The Mets, the New York Mets, and the Boston Red Sox. And you you’ve heard the Pirates, but they’re starting to fade a little bit because of the amount of money that he’s projected to get. And the deal is supposed to be in the neighborhood of six years, $154 million. Uh, I like this. Give me this. I’d do this. I don’t know that the Cubs feel like he is a fit for what they need. Guess they don’t need a bat that hits almost 60 home runs and drives in 130 runs batted in and is going to hit 500 home runs and is 32 years old and is a legend already. Yeah, he’s a legend. Helped the Cubs win the World Series and he’s known for being huge in the playoffs. Don’t need any of that. Um I just wonder where it’s going to be. the insider uh insiders with the first off the Reds are saying that the Reds are serious about buying him and bringing him to that team. You know, sometimes you got to sign guys just to keep him from your competition. Do you really want him to go to Cincinnati? Cincinnati snuck into the playoffs last year. They’re a really talented young team. They got a good manager. Guy knows how to win. I would not want to see Scorber with the Reds because he may be the piece that brings that whole team together and they’ve got a lot of of of pitching. Can you imagine him in that lineup? It’s going to cost him a lot of money, but you know, for a small to midlevel market team, you know, they did pay Ken Griffy Jr. a ton of money back in the day. So maybe they’ll do it. I don’t know. The other team that I think’s really more of a contender in this would be the Mets. And you’re hearing that the Mets are serious about it. The Mets have the money and they got rid of Pete Alonzo or at least he’s right now a free agent. And where’s he going to end up? Maybe not back there. Warber such a force. Think about how popular he’d be in New York. I’m surprised that the and I guess they just don’t have a spot for him. But the Yankees go out and get Schwber. I mean, it’d be like having Babe Ruth Jr. there, but the Mets apparently are serious about it. They’ve got the means to do it. He would certainly compliment their lineup. You know, obviously they faded last year. They could use someone that’s clutch. And if I’m the Cubs, I’m just sitting back and and waiting. And I think that the one thing you can say about the Cubs is that they are good at not showing their hand. You know, they could still be in this. I don’t know how you wouldn’t be interested if you were the Cubs and adding this guy, especially if you don’t have Tucker coming back and you’re not going to sign Cody Bellinger. You know, you you love the young guys, but putting him in the lineup every day just gives you that guy like you you had with Tucker that is is a threat. Now, he’s not as good of a hitter as Tucker. Tucker’s one of the best pure hitters I’ve I’ve really ever seen. I mean, his eyes amazing, but he but he struggles to stay healthy, you know, and and and Schwarbs is someone that I think the Cubs should get based off that and the fact that he’s going to help you sell tickets, you know, and it’s a it’s a two-pronged attack. You want to win and then you want to have players that help you sell tickets. So, I’m I’m you guys know this. I’m all in on on Schwarber, but I have not heard one thing that that that gives me any idea that the Cubs are seriously going to sign him. Uh all the smokes in other places, but you know, I could still see them swooping in and and and making a deal or waiting to see if it’s if you know, whoever made the last deal is one that they want to do. Um, but I don’t know. It doesn’t feel like we’re getting it. I’ll just say that. Now, the other thing that when you look at this roster, this off season, what the Cubs are going to do, where they can where I know they’re going to spend money, and that’s starting pitching. You know, they’ve made that clear that they’re going to invest in pitching. And John Haymon, who’s one of the best in the business, doesn’t think that the Cubs are going to be in the mix for those top tier guys. We saw Dylan Cease get a ton of money. Um I don’t the Cubs weren’t going to go in and pay that. You know, some of these other guys who are, you know, some of the pitchers coming over from Japan that are so good, I just don’t see them going in the neighborhood of $200 million. Um with that said, it does feel like the Cubs could could be interested in e either one of these guys. We keep hearing that. Ranger Suarez, who you’re talking about 130 million. We keep hearing Michael King, the Padre at one at 75 million. And then Zack Allen, who’s projected to get 60 million. You know, I feel like Allon’s got a lot of upside even though he didn’t have a great year a season ago. I mean, we saw him the year that the Diamondbacks made their run to the World Series is one of the best pitchers in baseball, you So, you wonder if he’d be able to kind of figure that out. And and I I do feel like the Cubs are going to make a move here. They’ve said they’re going to wonder like what the the corresponding move is going to be. You know, would they trade one of their other starting pitchers? Because then you get to the point where you’re like, “Hey, we got a lot of starting pitching right now.” Which I don’t think is a problem, but financially, you know, are you going to keep all of those guys? If you go and get, you know, Michael King, you know, then all of a sudden you got Shot Managa and you got Justin Steel and you got Kate Horton and you got Jameson Tyion and and you got, you know, just keep going down the line. Matthew Boyd, Colin Ray and, you know, Javier Assad. I mean, I guess he’s kind of a swing guy, but you know what I mean. Maybe that’s what the Cubs are kind of looking at too, like swing a big trade, giving up one of their other starters to get a piece that they’re not necessarily going to sign in free agency, you know, and and I still feel like they want Alex Bregman. They like Alex Bregman. They made that clear last year. Swber would be our pick, but it doesn’t feel like he’s their pick, but we might be wrong on that. They’re not going to pay Kyle Tucker money unless the market kind of falls to one of these deals where he’s like, “Hey, I I’ll take, you know, maybe you just give me some crazy 30ome million dollar deal and it has opt outs.” And we’ve seen guys do that. Carlos Koreah did that. You know, guys will do that. They’ll take a big deal, opt out of it uh the next year because they they didn’t get the long-term deal that they wanted. And I could see the Cubs kind of being in that that realm as well. So, you know, so we’ll see. I I I I watch this stuff every day and and it’s hard. It’s it’s like reading these markets. Winter meetings are coming up. That’s the next thing. And some of these deals get done there. But it it right now it doesn’t feel like the Cubs have the same momentum that they had going from 2014 to 15 and 15 to 16. And that’s the one area I look at and and remember what it was like building up to that World Series championship team. There was just you just could feel it coming. But one deal could change that. You know, they when they signed John Lester, everybody wanted him. That opened the door to everything else that then you get Joe, you know, Joe Madden comes over, you get John Lester. I mean like within that quick but part of that too was that Theo was there and he’s a Hall of Fame executive and you know he’s I mean just him him being there in that spot was also a lot different than than Jed Hoyer just from the perception of things. Um, so all right, last thing I want to get in on the show today and I want to thank all of you guys for being part of Avenue D and being part of Mick Nation and and commenting and talking to each other on a daily basis here. Make sure that you subscribe. Make sure that your friends subscribe. Scott Kingy signed a minor league deal with the Cubs. Um, he’s a utility guy. They’re going to probably do a lot more of this. You see guys constantly sign and then their hope is that they’ll make the team, right? like they sign and then we kind of go to spring training and there’s some jobs open. He’s got a chance to make the team and that’s why he signed, you know, so spring train is going to be really important to him. He’s he’s signed a minor league deal. So, he’s going to have to earn that roster spot, you know, and then then some of the young players are going to try to fight their ass off to get that spot, too. So, it’s a good I love competition. You guys know that. And I I love when they go out and, you know, and get get guys. I thought for a little while I thought Kery was going to be a really really good big leager, but you know, just kind of plateaued out and then found this role. It’s been a good role for him. Um so, you know, we we’ll keep an eye on that. But that this they still have a ton of open 40man roster spots, which is which is crazy to me because you don’t normally see that, but there’s a ton of them. think like I I la my last check was like nine. So they’ve got move, you know, room to move with this roster. You know, we’ll kind of see where that is. And maybe it’s maybe it’s actually less than that because they put three guys on there. But anyway, there’s there’s spots on that 40man. So I’m sure a lot of the players that are kind of in that spot that King is in are looking at that going, “Hey man, there’s there’s going to be opportunities here.” Uh again, I want to thank you. Like and subscribe. Go Cubs go. We’ll do it again tomorrow. Uh we just keep on following this unless something breaks and if it does we’ll jump on here live. 1. You need guys on base when this guy comes to the plate, so he's your number 3 – 4 hitter with Nico and PCA in front of him. 8 & 9 hitters are never on base on this team. I don't think the cubs are signing any big names though. There is no baseball in 27.

  2. The Cubs need way more than Schwarber. About 5 players worth and still not in the same galaxy as the Dodgers or Blue Jays! They need top tier starters, a closer, bench help, upgrade at third ect. Schwarber would be nice but definitely not the answer unless they spend money which isnt going to happen.

  3. I feel the Cubs will lay low in spending FA $$$. I think this year will be focused on fill ins, trades and our farm system. The reason I feel this way has to do with the potential of losing a season due to the MLB contract expiring.

  4. The Cubs organization has zero loyalty towards their fans yet the fans keep filling up the ballpark very sad, I would love the Cubs to be a real team but ownership just doesn't see it that way
