Craig Berube | Post Game @ Carolina Hurricanes | December 04, 2025

Craig, what do you like about how your team handled this one? Yeah, it’s a tough tough building to come into, I’ll tell you that. They put a lot of stress on you with shot volume and things. We blocked some shots and battled and, you know, scored in our our chances that we got. How’s Joel? Uh, well, we’ll see tomorrow. I think lower body right now. U see where he’s at. How do you find out when he’s not coming back out for the third? How do I find out? Yeah. They come and tell me a trainer. What’s it been like handling some of the uncertainty that you’ve dealt with this year as a coach? Well, I mean that this stuff happens and you know you just handle it. Told Beast he’s going in and he did a great job for us. How serious how serious do you think Joseph’s injury is? Um I don’t I like right now I can’t give you that answer. I really don’t know. I, you know, hopefully it’s not, but I really like the way Beast came in and handled it. What do you like about how he’s handled kind of everything this year, D? Yeah, I mean, he’s done a great job for us. Um, I talked about back in camp, thought he had a really good camp, came in prepared. Um, and it showed tonight the preparation. It’s not easy to come in there in that situation. and um you know just I loved when he’s ripping them pucks around the wall you know like it just just everything’s hard and he he battled at the net and made some good saves for us in the third period. What do you guys think performance? Well, he’s been really good this whole trip for me. Um I thought that line was really good tonight. They carried it, you know, in my opinion. thought they did a great job and um not just on a score sheet all around, you know, and I think um Matthews had six blocks and did a great job killing penalties and um but the whole team contributed. You know, it was a good team win. Like I said, it’s not an easy place to come into and and win. This team’s very good team. They put a lot of stress on you like I talked about, but I thought we handled it well. Well, you guys have scored the first goal on your first shot in the last four games. Presume that’s something you’d like to bottle. What does it do for the team? Well, confidence and put you put you in a good spot right away, right? A little momentum and um you know that line again, they were very good. Just how much different do you feel about your team now as opposed to the start of the trip? Yeah, just I think when you look at from the start of the trip to now, just the confidence with the puck is is in a way better spot more than anything. Where where’d that come from? I mean, just I think just, you know, we talked about it, puck possession, making some more plays and um you know, wanting to puck a little bit more, like working for each other. And I think they’ve done a good job of grabbing that and and and going with it. So, it’s just, you know, showing video and talking about it and then um more so like working on it in practice a little bit more too than we have. Just with a little hurt, is there anything you want stolers like has he skated all the last couple days? No, he’s not on the ice yet. So, how important to carry this over the guys? Well, it’s it’s important. I mean, after a road trip, you come home, you got a day off, and then we got to get back at it against a big rival, Montreal. Um, you know, you can’t, you know, I think you got to understand that, you know, you get home and there’s things going on at home and all that with your families and all that stuff. That’s important, but just to take what we did on the road here and bring it to the home, you know, and be urgency. Urgency for me is be everything in that game. Thank you.

  1. That Habs game was rock bottom for me. None of them except OEL had any jam that night. If they can show some bite and run the Habs off Saturday night it would be a step in the right direction.

  2. I really like Berube and I wish the players always battle for him like this. This road trip was about battling teams with decent records and it was impressive. The Leafs are a gritty bunch.

  3. Berube talked about puck possesion and moving it between each other. Another words passing. That is the big difference I have seen in the last few games. Puck movement and crisp and accurate passing especially from the Defence. Chief said that is something they are stressing more in practice. So even at the elite NHL level passing and quick puck movement along with high tempo skating need to be emphasized and worked on in practice. I think they strayed too far away from those things and got caught up too much in systems. Structure is important but without the high level skills added on top they are worth less. I like OEL on the point during the power play. I think it will pan out. At the least he is like an insurance policy of not getting scored on. Having him on the opposite side so he can do quick one timers is key. Leafs should do more of those one timers from the point. Pass it around til you open up a lane for the point man to shoot. Being on the off wing you can just rip it like Ovechkin does from his office. Matthews can slide back to the point as well on his off wing and get shots from there. Teams are good at cutting off seam passes so just do it up higher. Adapt!!!!!!!!

  4. I hate to say it, he is still not the coach to get the most out of these guys. he is a scrapper by trade and short fuse. Not a good combo for a coach. Unfortunately as with everyone that comes the Leafland the bias leafs sports media inflates them. They portray Berube as walk on water and philosophical genius. However. No one has said strategist, tactical etc etc. Truly think the Leafs need thAat type of coach.
