Minnesota Vikings VS Seattle Seahawks Preview: Almost enough to make you feel bad for Max Brosmer
All right, everybody. Good morning. Happy Saturday. We are here the day before yet another Seattle Seahawks game. We are about 28 hours away from kickoff and we’ve got the Minnesota Vikings coming to town. Not the matchup I would have expected coming into the season, but uh let’s talk about it regardless. Let’s figure out what’s going on here and understand what it’s going to take to get this win and continue to bear forward to the postseason, which I mean, right now it looks good, but you got to keep winning the NFC. I I’m going to say it again, a good team, a team that currently fully expects to make the playoffs is probably not going to make the playoffs just because there are too many good teams. So, how do you beat the Vikings? As it turns out, this year it’s been a little bit easier than I think most people would have expected to beat them, but you still got to actually beat them. All right, guys. Before I go any further, I want to tell you guys about my buddies over at Sleeper. And let me tell you, if you’re not using Sleeper for daily fantasy football, you are missing out. Check out the left side of your screen right now. Look at all the fun stuff you can get up to. Look at all the stuff you can pick one way or the other on. I’ve got an entry for this week, the Thanksgiving week of football. We got George Pickkins over 75 and a half yards against Kansas City. I got Chase Brown and JSN scoring anytime touchdowns in their respective games. And I’ve got Josh Allen throwing for at least two touchdowns against Pittsburgh. Head on over there. You can put together bet slips just like this one. And if you use promo code SBN, that is SBN, you can get up to a $100 match on your first deposit. Terms and conditions apply. See Sleepers terms of use for details. Check out Sleeper today. Go put your picks down and have fun with sports this year. Okay, so obviously there’s a little bit of a storyline here because this is where Sam Darnold rebuilt his career last year. Went to Minnesota on a one-year deal. expecting to be a backup. Ended up getting the starting job and having a pretty remarkable season. So, it it looked for a little while there like he was going to find his home in Minnesota. They ended up not resigning him and now I mean they they probably regret it. They probably regret it and he’s doing some pretty good things over here in Seattle. So, I mean there there’s that storyline going on here. I’m not going to get too deep into that, but that’s obviously going to be one of the big things that people think about and talk about as this game gets underway. Expect to hear about that from the announcers a lot. But what’s really going on beyond just that very surface level understanding of what this game is? Well, let’s start with the fact that the Vikings do not ha have Sam Darnold. So, they don’t have Sam Darnold. They don’t have JJ McCarthy. He’s out this week with the concussion. And they don’t have Carson Wentz because he’s, I think, out for the year. Maybe not for the whole year, but he’s certainly out for this game. So, who do they have? Well, they have Max Bromer and they have um I I think they signed Desmond Ritter. He’s probably going to be their emergency quarterback. And then they got John Wolford. And we remember John Wolford a little bit, but it looks like it’s going to be the Max Brosmer show. And I did scout him a little bit last year when he was entering the draft out of Minnesota. Um, wasn’t a lot to say. He was kind of your typical college quarterback that didn’t really have an NFL arm and couldn’t really handle pressure and was too inconsistent, but pretty quick going through his reads. gets the ball out of his hands pretty quickly. You could imagine him being a functional quarterback in the NFL at some point, but you definitely did not imagine him going on the road in his first career start against Mike McDonald and this Seahawks defense that is if not elite than right on the cusp of it and winning a game. I’ll put it to you that way. There might be some scenarios where a Max Brosmer could find some success. Maybe against a weaker defense at home, maybe a defense with a lot of injuries, playing a lot of UDFA rookies themselves. Okay, he’s he’s not completely without some football playing ability, but this situation, no, he’s probably walking into a buzzsaw. As much of a buzzsaw as you can get in this league, unless maybe going to Denver would be tougher, right? maybe playing your first career game in Denver against this current Broncos defense. That’d be a lot. Other than that though, you can’t ask for a much harder landing spot. And you put it together with everything else going on with this Vikings offense. And look, all the respect in the world to Kevin Oonnell, who I think is a great coach, and all the respect in the world to the Vikings coaching staff in general that I think is going to spawn a lot of uh head coaches and play calling offensive coordinators in the next couple years. Wes Phillips, Grant Odinsky, Josh Macau, and of course, respect to Justin Jefferson. There really isn’t that much going on with this Vikings offense that you’re excited to work with if you’re a quarterback. Compared to last year, it is night and day night and day. And there are a few different reasons for it. Mostly though, it feels like it’s about the drop off up front. Vikings. Um they they had offensive line problems last year, especially at the end of the season, which is a big reason why they lost their last two games in such I I’d call it embarrassing fashion. And they did a lot of work to try to fix that this off seasonason. They they signed guys, they drafted guys, and it hasn’t really worked. And in a lot of games this year, the Vikings offensive line has looked as bad as it looked at the end of the season last year. Injuries have not helped. I know Ryan Kelly has missed some games. I know Will will Will Will Fires or Will Fry uh has missed some time. And now you’ve got Donovan Jackson, he’s out. You got Christian Darasaw, questionable. If they could get all these guys on the field at the same time, they’d probably be very good. But has not happened. And they’re probably going to be gutting this game out without their starting left side. No Jackson, probably no Darus off, I had to guess. So yeah, they uh they don’t they don’t win up front enough for them to win in general offensively. Um they don’t run the ball that well this year. They’ve got a couple different running backs that they like to use, but none of them seem like they have the expected gas. And to me, Jordan Addison, I don’t want to condemn him because there could be some other things going on there, but to me, Jordan Addison doesn’t look as good as he looked last year, and he doesn’t look like he’s going to be the player that a lot of people thought he was going to be after what he did last year. So, little bit cool on Jordan Addison. I know that TJ Hawinson is battling through injury stuff right now, and they’re saying his whole career might be derailed by that. And um I uh I don’t know, there just isn’t as much to be afraid of. The main problem has been the quarterback play. Even when they didn’t have Max Brosmer, they had JJ McCarthy who looked awful. They had uh Carson Wentz who looked barely playable. So it’s not like it’s just Bromer. In fact, Brosmer has played very little so far this season. But whoever it may be and whatever may be going on, that big downgrade at that position, it’s it’s not something that you can really overcome. And the fact that Kevin O’Connell has struggled to get good play out of this quarterback room tells you everything you need to know. If Kevin Oonnell can’t do it, then it probably cannot be done. This is a guy who helped turn Kirk Cousins’s uh career, well, I don’t want to say he turned it around, but he did get a career year out of Kurt Cousins and a 13 win season out of Kirk Cousins. And then he turned Sam Darnold’s career around. So, he knows quarterbacks, but can’t get it out of these guys so far. So yeah, you you’re talking about playing a UDFA rookie in his first ever NFL start behind a shaky offensive line with not a great running game. McDonald, this is your chance. This is your opportunity. You don’t have to go too crazy here, but find find creative ways to put this guy at ill at ease. You don’t have to blitz. You don’t have to send the house, but maybe you’re sending four guys that he’s not expecting. And really, what is he expecting that that there’s so little tape on this guy that it could almost be a detriment to this team because you’ve got like one year of college, little bit of preeason this year, and then I think he’s played a tiny bit during the season, but you are working with so little information when it comes to Bromer that it actually kind of backfire. But generally speaking, he doesn’t have the arm to get it down the field. He doesn’t have the ability to take the top off. So you are playing with house money in that regard. You don’t have to worry about him firing a seed 50 yards down the field and he’s got you for an 80 yard touchdown. He doesn’t have the arm for it and he probably won’t have the confidence to even try to make that kind of throw. I expect a lot of stuff just trying to get the ball out of his hands really fast and maybe there won’t be a ton of pressure because of that. But it should also be pretty easy to play against. So, whatever it may be, I think we’re getting big things out of this defense. And the other side, offensively, the Vikings downfall on defense this year has been kind of tragic because last year, man, last year they operated at such a high level on the back of Brian Flores. just you want to talk about a master class. I thought the stuff that Brian Flores did last year was magical. The way in which he would send balls to the wall pressure and have no fear of it backfiring and trusting his guys to get it done over and over and over again and seeing it work over and over and over again. I mean, it it was it was great. And then they actually did try to go out and get some more talent for that defense this off season, right? They they they didn’t have some massive exodus of talent. They went out and got somebody like a um they got from the Ner’s uh shoot, I’m sorry. Give me one second here, guys. Hargrave. I spaced out his name for a second, but they went out and got a Harrave. They they didn’t go out and get a Dallas Turner, but he did so little last year. There was an expectation that you were going to be getting a ton from Dallas Turner that you didn’t get last year. That was going to be like getting a new player and it just has not worked nearly as well. And right now their defense is actually below average. Now some of that is because their offense has been really bad and the defense suffers because the offense can’t support them, but it is not the same. They are not taking the ball away. They led the league in interceptions by a long shot last year. They have like three this year. The only team that has fewer is the Jets. So, they’re not getting takeaways pretty much at all when they lived off of takeaways last year. They’re not getting nearly as much pressure. Um, Hargrave maybe hasn’t been as great as they were hoping. Guys like Ivan Pace have fallen off to the point where they’ve kind of been benched. Uh, they’re not getting a big breakout from Dallas Turner. He’s been better, but we’re not seeing greatness out of him yet the way I was expecting. I was a big Dallas Turner guy in the uh in the draft last year or well, two years ago now, but they they they’ve seen some drop offs, don’t get me wrong. They they’ve seen some of these players not go individually. They’re not living up to their expectations. I understand. But man, man, it it has been a stark falloff after watching what Brian Flores cooked up last year. And now I’m looking at it this year and I’m like, well, they can’t stop the run, should be able to run the ball. And Flores, for as much as he’s not having as much success this year, is a guy who wants to stack the box, who wants to take big chances, who wants to try to send the house. And what have the Seahawks done a really good job of this year? They have destroyed defenses that stack the box and try to send the house and take chances. They stack the box. JSN makes big plays down the field. And the the the teams that have had success against Seattle are mostly the teams that play them straight up. Teams like the NerS, teams like the Rams. Vikings, they don’t play straight up. They don’t I don’t think it’s in their DNA. So, right off the bat, I’m like, “Okay, we should be able to do whatever we want to do on this Vikings team, right? Should be able to hit stuff deep down the field with JSN. Should be able to exploit their stacked boxes. Should be able to exploit their blitzes. Should be able to run the ball on them as well. Because if they’re doing a bunch of crazy stuff, having guys go in and out back and forth, that’s going to open up run lanes. And if they don’t have Jaylen Redmond out there, that hurts their defensive line significantly. Greener is battling his own injuries right now. He might not play. Matelis, like there there’s a lot of stuff you can exploit here right now. They’re not getting the same level of play out of a guy like a Byron Murphy at corner. So, there’s just a lot not going right with this team. They they’ve it kind of feels like a worst case scenario season for them given how good they were last year and how much talent they have. And I I’m feeling pretty good. Like last year when the Seahawks played the Vikings, I it felt like it felt like a death march because I was just thinking about what the Vikings like to do and what the Seahawks had with Ryan Grub and I was like, “This is a disaster waiting to happen.” and it actually wasn’t. The Seahawks offense played well in that game and they almost won and ultimately they couldn’t quite get it done, but it wasn’t a disaster. But the reason why I bring that up is I remember going into that game last year against the Vikings. I thought the matchup was terrible for Seattle, which is why I thought we’d lose that game because I thought Brian Flores was like the perfect guy to make a guy like Orion Grub miserable. And there was some of that, don’t get me wrong. But for the most part, I think that uh I I I think that uh it was it was all about that for me going into that game is the point I’m making. This year, I feel the exact opposite. I think that this Vikings defense is the exact kind of defense Seattle wants to go up against and can beat because they’re very good against stack boxes this year and Kubak has proven that he can beat that. So yeah, I’m feeling it on all sides here. Now, I’m not going to go crazy with this one. I’m not. This is probably the kind of game that you just kind of show up, you do your job, you do what you need to do, and you you don’t necessarily completely destroy the other team because you don’t need to. We’re we’re in the middle of a long season here. There have been some injuries piling up for this Seahawks team. I imagine there’s not a desire to just completely rip the other team apart. You don’t need to rip the other team apart. You just need to win. And that’s kind of what I’m feeling for this game. I’m thinking 24-10 or 27 to 10. Could we beat them down? Yeah, especially with a guy like Max Bromer out there. And I won’t be shocked if it happens. But I feel like this is just going to be kind of a take care of business game for Seattle. Not going to get too crazy, not going to get too out of hand. Just going to roll in there and get the job done. Nothing over the top. Not going to win a lot of style points. Not going to get a ton of credit from anybody for it, but it’s the kind of win that you need to grind out in the NFL. It’s kind of like the dog days in a baseball season. You just get the win and get out. Okay. So, Vikings Seahawks, I say 24 to 10. If we want to pile on a little bit more than that, hey, I welcome it. And it won’t shock me if they do. But I feel like we’ve already had our blowouts this year. I don’t think we’re gonna just keep stacking these blowouts in every single easy game. All right, see you guys later. Go Hawks. More stuff soon.

Saturday Blessings Brendon, just finished watching last Season's matchup with Vikings, the end with Geno's interception…
I am happy to see the game this Sunday living in SF bay area. Should be fun to see how Darnold plays against a team did not want to pay him to stay.
Automatic W
Steamroll them! Do what you’re supposed to do and move on to the next week 😎
Seahawks 45-17
Should be a game that we should win, although like any opponent don't take them for granted. My keys for this game are that Seattle's D-line has to take advantage of getting after Brosmer with that banged up Minnesota O-line, and Sam Darnold being able to deal with the blitzes sent by Brian Flores. I have the final score as 28-14 Seattle.
I see a lenard Williams pick 6 coming in this game.
Udinski is OC for Jaguars
Offense struggled against LA (4 interceptions), and couldn't finish against the Titans (couldn't get off the field on 4th down)…I have concerns and I think they need to win out to win the division
This feels like a game we would inexplicably lose under Pete.
Colt McCoy, John Wolford, (ironically) Sam Darnold flashbacks. Just gotta remind myself we have MacDonald now. Hoping for a stress-free win!
Checkdown charlie brosmer isn't moving the ball pass the 50 yard line to score any points……shut out……GO HAWKS
Hoping we can overcome the “home field disadvantage” at Lumen Field….
Brosmer head is gonna be spinning in circles!
Looks like Sam was the reason they did so good last year 😂 just sayin
Pronouncing his name wrong. It isn't "Brah-smer", it's "Bro".
Just some corrections… both our running backs are averaging over 4.6 yards rush. We simply do not run the ball enough. Also, both sides of the ball have been injured. Dallas Turner is not a starter. Hes been ok. Hargrave has been good. Joh athan Allen has not. The fall off is injury based.
Also, teams that stack the box usually run 1 high safety. We stack the box with 2 high.
Last year's game: Darnold – hole shot between Woolen, and Love – TD. Geno and D.K. respond with a game deciding INT because they are not on the same page.
Is thr ANY chance the Vikings win this?
Another 28-0 by the second quarter works for me.
The Vikings almost always play up to their competition. Seattle is playing better, but talent-wise, they aren't much better. Max and this offense are going to torch Seattle 😎
What about Jordan Addison?? Oh, I know you're scared now. You're just chatting. Better hope Darnold doesn't turn into a pumpkin today!
You’re promoting gambling on tier 2 sites now huh? Damn it Brendan
