Because someone, somewhere, thought it would be way more exciting if the last couple of minutes were turned into a ridiculously boring time wasting mechanic….
Why couldn’t a QB just get the ball and flop?
Funny that the kneel had to be “introduced”. What would have happened in 1978 if the QB just took the snap and fell down?
These boys really use to be out there playing on asphalt
If only there was some legendary name for this highlight….
omg my dad talks about this play all the time!! apparently he was watching it live and completely lost his mind when it happened lol.
Not just the kneel down. The victory formation was created because of this play. When the QB kneels there is a player to each of his sides. They are there to prevent a defender from forcing a fumble or hitting the QB. They are also there to try to recover any fumbles that happen.
Finally, there is an offensive player 8 or so yards behind the LOS. His sole job is to tackle any defenders that recover a fumble and prevent a defensive score.
“you play to win the game!” Those words from this iggles legend once helped me dodge suicide. Forever grateful
What I remember most about this play: Dad was a Giants fan. (He died in 2022.) And it became obvious to all us Eagles fans that we lost the game. Mom called us for dinner, so my older brother and I washed our hands and went to the dining room. Shortly after, dad came in and I can’t ever recall him being more livid about anything.
Don Criqui, a legendary voice, he called so many big games, particularly college games, he was the voice of the Orange Bowl for decades.
QB kneel should be banned. All the talk about the tush push being a boring play, what’s more boring and more of a cop out and excuse to get out of playing the game than the QB kneel?
HERMMMM!!!
I remember this happening, my dad had friends over watching the game, I was a little kid at the time, and my dad and his friends were all aggravated at the would-be loss, and suddenly they’re all standing and yelling and celebrating.
I had no idea that _this_ play ushered in the victory formation, that’s funny.
there was no QB kneel rule yet, but QBs used to flop on the ball to kill clock all the time. It was shocking to see Pisarcik hand off the ball. I watched it on TV and I remember it like it was yesterday.
Jim Murray is the one in the trench coat there going nuts, RIP
We need to get the white with Kelly green alts next year
Bring back these Eagles jerseys!! ❤️
The Miracle of the Meadowlands!!!
Fucking fan duel at it again
The QB Joe Pisarcik ended up getting traded to the Eagles and was Jaws’ backup during their run to Super Bowl XV and a few years after.
