MORE HABS TRADE RUMOURS: CANADIENS, CANUCKS, BLUES? KIEFER SHERWOOD & ROBERT THOMAS TALKS
H. Let’s talk about Montreal Canadians trade targets as highlighted by Mark Dumont on Montreal Hockey Now. By the way, if anybody has visited Montreal Hockey Now lately, the website looks a lot different and the URL isn’t directly Montreal Hockey Now like the title would imply that it is. Seems like Montreal hockey now specifically got bought out or maybe the ownership changed or something. I mean, if we go over to Pittsburgh hockey now, things are a little bit different. But either way, today what I wanted to do was refer to an article posted by Mark Dumont earlier yesterday. The Montreal Canadians rumor roundup. Shopping for forwards and Kefir Sherwood. Yes, this piece is from yesterday. And yes, we have already made our fair share of commentaries talking about Chief Keef, Vancouver Canucks 30-year-old forward with some bite, with some goalc scoring ability, and who’s got a pretty cheap cap hit at 1.5 million bucks a year. A guy who, for all intents and purposes, should be one of the most coveted trade targets on the market so far. This article by Dumont goes out there and dives into some of the other names that Montreal could be linked to. And even though there is a very obvious number 25 that is linked in this image here that we have spoken about at length, there also are some other names that are brought up that we could potentially highlight as well. Let’s get into this piece and just go over whom it is Dumont is referring to. This article opens up by talking about how the Montreal Canadians are continuing to look for reinforcements, the driving force behind the long list of rumors associated to the team in recent months. Darren Drager mentioned the Canadians while discussing the Vancouver Conucks and the St. Louis Blues. And though his comments echo his comments, not his comments. H got to get the editor in on that one. Even though his comments echo an abundance of similar reports from weeks and months past, the Canucks do seem open to trading some of their players, particularly those who are set to becoming free agents this summer. Then you have yourselves the tweet here. NHL rumor report. Sakarrison Price from December 1st. Darren Dreger said, “I keep looking at Montreal. one of those teams that most definitely is continually kicking tires on the potential of a fit with the Blues and some of the assets that they have up front. This report aligns with what Pierre Lebron recently suggested when discussing Kucks forward Kefir Sherwood. He thinks the Canadians are among the many teams that have inquired as to the cost of acquisition. Sherwood, 30, can play as a winger or a center, though his faceoff efficiency leaves much to be desired. He’s currently on pace for 36 goals and 12 assists on the year and occupies the second line left wing position in the Canucks lineup. His defensive numbers are usually solid, but they’ve suffered a considerable down tick this season. Gee, I wonder why that is. It can’t possibly be because the Vancouver Conucks are just a bad hockey team, right? His contract is reasonable, 1.5 million AAV. As a winger, he seems like a logical target for the Canadians, but he probably wouldn’t solve the team’s most pressing issue, which is a lack of depth down the middle of the ice. And that is true. I mean, Sherwood is listed as a center, but let’s be real here. If you’ve been watching Vancouver Conucks hockey for any part of the past year and a bit, you would know that Sherwood is a winger. The guy doesn’t really do much at C. I don’t think he’s even been played at C throughout the course of his Vancouver Conucks tenure, but with 19 goals last season and a pace of 36 goals this season. Chief Keefe and his underrated shot and breakaway ability is a very versatile forward. Is he going to provide top six offense? Probably not. I think if he had sustained the 60goal pace that he was on earlier in the year, you could argue that. But at the end of the day, that’s not really what Sherwood is fully capable of. even if he was given a much better team around him, I feel like he has been one of the only bright spots for Vancouver this season. A team that is literally last place in the NHL right now, which uh yeah, don’t worry, we’re going to get into the fact that they are last in a video later on today. But Chief Keef is a Montreal Canadians target that has been linked to them. It’s been noted that apparently them and Minnesota are the top two teams that are really vouching for Kefir Sherwood and that are really trying to get this done. Who knows if there actually is a trade that’s coming soon. But we also have some other names that could be tossed out there as Canadians trade targets, especially those on the St. Louis Blues. There are two forwards, Zumont writes, who immediately spring to mind for Montreal Canadians fans specifically. The first being Robert Thomas, a 26-year-old center that fits Montreal’s ideal age group. He’s not enjoying the best season with the Blues, though. It must be noted that that’s the case for every single player with this team. It’s very difficult to get a good read on skaters playing for a struggling club, but Thomas leads the Blues in scoring with four goals and 13 assists in 23 games, and he wins roughly 52% of his faceoffs. Thomas is in year three of an 8-year contract which carries an AAV of 8.125. Obviously, the cost acquisition would be relatively high, even if Thomas is having a bad time finding the back of the net this season, but from a pure roster construction standpoint, he would be a great ad to the Canadians lineup. The second player that would make sense is Jordan Kyu. And we’ve already talked a bunch about Kyu over the past few months here. I wanted to focus on Robert Thomas because Thomas is an interesting name. Firstly, he is the name of my favorite tank engine. And secondly, when Thomas was drafted back in 2017, I remember the comparable that they used for him during the draft video broadcast on TV was Bo Horvat. It’s kind of funny the circle of life, how things go. When Bo Horvat gets drafted, he is compared to Ryan O’Reilly. When Robert Thomas is drafted, he is compared to Bo Horvat. And when Braden Coots is drafted, he’s kind of compared to Thomas and Horvat, too. Although, sticking with Robert Thomas over here, 26-year-old guy, 1999, birth date, 6’1 187, a right-handed center, and a guy signed on till 2031, making 8.125 million bucks a year. That is more expensive than a bunch of the Canadians top paid guys. But it’s for good reason because Thomas over the course of the past few years has been an overp point per game superstar. 26 goals and 60 assists for 86 points in 82 games in 23-24 followed up by 81 points in only 70 games this most previous season. 21 goals and 60 assists. If you do the math on this year, let’s do 81 divided by 70 multiplied out by 82. Robert Thomas was on pace for a 95 point year if he had just played the entire rest of the way through. He also was over a point per game in St. Louis’s first round playoff matchup against oh boy, who did they play against? Was it Winnipeg? I think it was Winnipeg. Not too sure. But Thomas this year on pace for a much lower productive season. On pace for 55 points this year, but of course everybody in St. Louis is doing poorly. He leads the team after all. And I think that just kind of indicates where things are with these players. Yeah, everybody’s kind of struggling all at the same time. It’s funny how that works. Jordan Bennington can’t stop a puck. Thomas Holloway, Buchavic, Kyu, these guys aren’t getting as much production as they’re used to. And now if it opens the door for some potential trade, then who knows what’s going to happen and what is in store for the St. Louis Blues. Does Jordan Bennington go to Edmonton? Does a guy like Robert Thomas head over to Montreal? I’ll say this, if you were looking for the Bo Horvat mold, Robert Thomas would be near perfect for what the Canadians could be looking for on their forward core. But I really do wonder, would the St. Louis Blues even entertain the idea of trading away a Robert Thomas? It doesn’t seem like the productive thing to do. It doesn’t seem like they’d be interested at all in moving this piece out of all the pieces that they have. Kyu, there already was some drama there and he got healthy scratched earlier in the year as well. So, I think it’s a lot easier to make that argument. Jordan Bennington, you can say that he is just totally washed and he could be better served elsewhere. There are a bunch of other guys that you can say maybe or maybe not deserve to be here. But either way, Robert Thomas is the cream of the crop when it comes to St. Louis Blues guys. And I want you to let me know your thoughts in the comment section below. Do you agree with this idea that he could be traded to the Montreal Canadians of all teams? thoughts in the comments section about Robert Thomas. What are your thoughts on Kefir Sherwood? This article will be linked in the description if you want to go ahead and read it yourself. Let me know in the comments all your opinions. I hope you enjoyed this Swedish Astral 99 and bye.

Montreal only needs one or two guys. Sherwood would fit well on Montreal. Send us Fin this way.
What would it take to get Rasmus Andersson to Detroit? I like the sound of the Swedish Defense. We already have Edvinsson and ASP. I think it may be a good fit.
Robert Thomas would be a dream for the habs I hope so.
The Blues are not trading with Montreal again after getting screwed in the "red light" Mailloux trade.
I’m not sure who Montreal would be willing to trade to get Thomas,(if he were to ever hit the market) to make the trade worth doing
I can't see them being serious about trading for Sherwood.
