“We Are Not Here For Moral Victories” | Jason Zucker After Buffalo Sabres Loss To Winnipeg Jets

Jason, it’s safe to say guys had the pace you wanted in the first period. Just offense continues to struggle and to finish. What do you think the situation is? We’re not here for moral victory. So, we didn’t do enough. We didn’t do enough to win. We got to be better. Too many mistakes defensively at times. Not a lot of finish on offense. How do you crack through on the road here? When you’re not feeling it on offense, you got to work harder. You got to get around the net. You got to get pucks there. You got to be willing to go to the dirty areas and and be willing to just fight for for one to to go off go off something. Get it in the net. Um and and I don’t think we have enough of that. When you look at this game, I mean, you could go down three to one with that goal late in the second. I see one shot on goal the first 10 minutes of the third period. Is that kind of indicative of what you’re saying? There just wasn’t a lot of juice there at the end. I Yeah, I just don’t think we’re doing enough, honestly. That’s what it comes down to. We’re not doing enough. We got to be better. What do you think about the difference between home and road? I mean, you’re last in the league in the old truck. Yeah, I don’t I It’s a mindset thing. Um, you know, I I think I got to be better. Um, you know, being a leader, being an older guy, and uh, you know, kind of warning us what the road is, what the road game is going to be. Um, so I’m going to put that on me. Um, you know, I need to be better at at preparing our guys for that. Three straight games, the power play goal for you guys. Um, are the things you need to be doing to draw more penalties because you had your power play goal and you didn’t get another power play the rest of the game? Um, yeah, honestly, if you’re skating if you’re skating well, you’re you’re putting the team, you know, their their uh defenseman on their heels. You’re typically going to draw more penalties. Um, you know, I don’t think we were skating enough. I don’t think we put them on their heels enough. I don’t think we made them defend hard enough and I think it made an easier game for him. And the shot there was shot volume but not a lot of traffic. Didn’t seem like there was a lot of difficult saves on Calary’s part. Yeah, you know, we had we had chances to put in, you know, empty nets in the second and things of that sort, but again, we we got to bear down. Um we got to be willing to score the dirty ones. We got to we got to start, you know, producing more. We got to um we just got to be hard team to play against.

Buffalo Sabres forward Jason Zucker spoke with the media after the team’s 4-1 loss to the Winnipeg Jets on December 5, 2025. He talked about how the team needs to work harder to get to the dirty areas and do anything for a goal, how the team needs to be better and work harder in general, and more.
