Wright won round one easily as expected. Today is started off loved, ended off divisive. A lot of good options for this one.

  1. How about Gooden or Strawberry? Neither left on good terms then they went to the f’ing Yankees.

But no denying their contributions while they were with us

  2. I’ll go with Scherzer. I know some hate him, especially for his comments for leaving, but I still see fans praise him and his work for the 22 team. I still respect Scherzer, but my affinity for him did kind of sour in 23.

  3. Thor or Cespedes.

Thor for just kinda being a dick at the end needlessly. Cespedes just for the weirdness (the boar?!?) and then basically vanishing.

  4. Cespedes or Reyes work perfectly here. I’ll probably go Reyes, because I think there’s still a bit of a debate there. I feel like Cespedes is-while not hated-not liked.

  5. Maybe murph. Still love him for what he did but I also hate him for what he did after

  6. As a tedious pedant it’s going to bother me to keep reading “ended off.” This is my humble suggestion to change it to “ended up.”

  7. Cespedes.

Only reason I don’t vote Reyes is cause his return was well received by a lot of fans, and I’d even suggest a majority were happy to see him end his career as a Met after all the time away. So I wouldn’t* call it divisive. I know some no longer respect him for the DV, but I’m not sure that’s the majority off the internet.

  8. Divisive now? Hmmmm not that many significant players because we are a pretty forgiving fan base in the end. We cherish the people whose Mets careers ended up in bad circumstances like Doc and Darryl. So, right now I’ll say Jake. He won’t be divisive as soon as he retires. But for now, some are cranky that he went to Texas (and watched his way to a ring, no less).

  9. Dwight Gooden. Hear me out. He was loved when his time started with the Mets but his (forced) breakup with the team had some fans saying “Why didn’t we bring him back” and other saying “We’re better off without him.” Add in multiple arrests and having trouble staying sober, he was always a bit divisive amongst the fan base. They did right by him and retired his number but I truly believe there’s a good amount of fans that still dislike him (not me though)
