The Flyers Could ACTUALLY Trade For Quinn Hughes

Flyers fans, buckle up because the NHL rumor mills doing back flips again. And this time it’s not some fringe name. Not a depth forward, not maybe a might happen longot. No, we’re talking about a franchise altering league shaking hockey world pausing name. Quinn Hughes. That’s right. The Vancouver Conucks captain, a perennial allstar. A guy who at 26 years old is already on the Hall of Fame trajectory. And according to Anthony DeMarco of the Daily Face Off, the whispers around Hughes’s future aren’t just alive, they’re getting louder, stranger, and a whole lot more Philadelphia flavored. So stick around. All right, so let’s set the stage. The Vancouver Conucks, whose season has been sputtering along like a jalapy with a cracked engine and are suddenly facing questions that would have sounded insane just 6 months ago. Their leadership group’s frustrated, the direction’s murky, and the organization is staring down the possibility, no matter how painful, of moving the face of their franchise. And yet somehow the Flyers are right in the middle of this hurricane. Demarco reported that Hughes’s name has been at the heart of trade discussions going back to last season and that Canucks president Jim Rutherford even hinted at the possibility that Hughes may want to play with his brothers in New Jersey. That devilish connection has always been a sexy rumor. But here’s the plot twist. The Philadelphia Flyers have emerged as a real legitimate mathematically capable candidate in the Hugh sweep stakes. Why, you might ask? Two huge reasons. Quinn Hughes has a good relationship with Flyers coach Rick Takett, a connection going back to Tocket’s Vancouver days. And in this league, relationships matter. And second, Hughes supposedly wants the East Coast experience. Fewer teams in the East have both the cap flexibility and the asset pool to make a deal like this even remotely possible. But here’s the kicker, and DeMarco makes this very clear. The Flyers have not spoken with Vancouver yet. No calls, no packages, no preliminary flirting, but they are very interested and interest without panic, desperation, or bad timing. That’s when big moves happen. The Flyers have the cap space. They have the draft capital. They have the internal need. And for the first time ever, the rumor doesn’t sound impossible. In fact, it sounds something like Philadelphia is quietly strategically preparing for. So, let’s dive deeper because this story gets even crazier and the potential cost gets even steeper from here. So, let’s get brutally honest here. Philadelphia Flyers defense is good, but it’s not great. And if you want to compete with the Hurricanes, the Lightning, the Panthers, and the Capitals of the world, good. It’s not going to cut it. The Marco highlights the Flyers biggest structural flaw. They don’t have a true alpha on the back end. Sure, Travis Sanheim has been fantastic. a top pair minutes eating reliable presence. But as DeMarco put it in his article, he’s more of an authentic number two on a contending team. And he’s right. Sanheim’s excellent, but the Flyers don’t have that guy. The one who dictates pace. The one who quarterbacks in every situation. The one who scares the opposition. And Quinn Hughes, he’s that guy. The Flyers pipeline. Yeah, they’re loaded with talent, but not the alpha defenseman talent. Jamie Ddale in Cam York. Yeah, they’re solid. Gifted top four caliber bluel liners, but DeMarco says they’ve already hit or are close to hitting their projected ceilings. Those are strong pieces, but not franchise shifting ones. And that’s what makes Hughes such an enticing target. He fills the exact gap that Philadelphia cannot fill internally. I mean, just take a look at the league’s contenders. Every single one has a defenseman who can take over a game. You’re talking about Kell Mar, Roman Yosi, Charlie Makavoy, Adam Fox, Miro Heiskinan, and Queen Hughes. The Flyers don’t have a player like that in that tier, but for the first time in years, they have the assets to go get one. DeMarco also points out that the Flyers have drafted six times in the first round since 2022. That’s unheard of for the Flyers. Combine that with more than 36.5 million in projected cap space at the deadline, and suddenly the Flyers can do something they haven’t been able to do since 2010. Make a massive league defining move. But here’s the part that should put every Flyers fan on high alert. A player like Quinn Hughes doesn’t become available often, and when he does, only a handful of teams can afford him. The Flyers just happen to be one of them. Now, the question becomes, what assets would Philadelphia be willing to move? and what assets would Vancouver demand and which names are absolutely off the table. Next, we’re going to get into the real drama, the untouchables, the bait, the names that could headline a blockbuster deal. All right, now we’ve entered the spicy part of the rumor. What exactly would the Flyers give up for Queen Hughes? Demarco laid it out in his article. The Flyers do have wing talent both on the roster and in the system, and that’s where the trade currency likely begins. Two names that DeMarco mentioned as speculative centerpieces were Tyson Forester and Porter Martone. Uh but here’s where things get a little decisive. DeMarco reports that Porter Marone is untouchable. And if you listen to our show earlier this week, you would have already known that we said the same thing. 100% offlimits, no wiggle room, no reconsideration, not even for Quinn Hughes. And totally agree with that. Marton along with Matt Beichkov are viewed as the foundational pieces of this franchise’s future. And honestly, can you blame them? Marton’s a 6-3 powerhouse with elite scoring tools. And Mechov, well, he’s Mechov, a guy with superstar potential written across every inch of his game. DeMarco says it plainly, Martone would not be on the table for Hughes. But, and this is where things get interesting, he adds a key followup. If the Flyers exclude Martone, would Vancouver even listen? The answer might be unclear, but I’m just going to tell you now, it’s yes. Despite that, the Flyers do have a name that fits the bill as a centerpiece. I would argue that they have two. DeMarco States one and Tyson Forester is a player that the Flyers love. A player that the Flyers rely on, player having a breakout season and yet a player they would consider moving for Quinn Hughes. The other one would be Owen Tippet, who Vancouver is said to have a lot of interest in. But this is where DeMarco’s reporting turns the temperature up. He notes the Flyers would be reluctant to include Forester, but they would consider it as part of a larger package. Forester is just 23 years old. He’s a 10 goal scorer in 23 games. He signed at 3.75 until 2027 and is and he’s an analytical royalty, one of the most efficient young forwards in the league. But as DeMarco hints, Philadelphia knows this truth. To get a superstar, you have to give up something painful. And the Canucks wouldn’t be asking for anything less. So, now let’s talk about the unfortunate part of all this. Tyson Forester, one of the biggest bright spots of the Flyers season and suddenly one of the biggest complications with this entire rumor. Demarco reports that Forester suffered an upper body injury against Pittsburgh. He’s now sidelined two to three months. The Flyers also confirmed this. Brutal timing. Forester was rolling. Momentum, confidence, shot volume, all going up. Everything was trending up. Here’s the part where DeMarco emphasizes. There’s actually some good news buried in this. A source told him the injury was not as bad as he originally thought and Forester is expected in uh expected back in February right around the Olympic break. And even more interesting, the same source suggested Forester will not require surgery, which avoids a much larger recovery. So, let’s get to the big question. Does this injury affect a potential Queen Hughes trade? The short answer is yeah, maybe. The long answer, it depends on Vancouver’s timeline. Forester is still extremely valuable. He’s still producing. He’s still signed to his sweetheart contract. The injury makes one thing clear. The Flyers aren’t going to include him lightly. DeMarco suggests in his article that the Flyers would draw a hard line if the Canucks demanded Forester plus an oversized package. That makes sense. For not a throwin. He’s not a luxury piece. He’s one of their core players. The other question is, would Vancouver settle for a deal centered around a defenseman instead? That’s what we’re going to talk about next. All right. So if Forester is one of the only may available, what about defenseman? DeMarco reports that three names could headline a package. Jamie Ddale, Cam York, and Emil Andre. So let’s break each one down. Cam York seems to be the most logical candidate. He’s steady, he’s improving, and already signed long-term for 5 years, 5.15 average annual value, and he’s still just 23 years old. Demarco notes that the conducts could value that cost certainty and they’d get a player drafted just one year after Hughes, but York alone, not even close. Come on, guys. This is Quinn Hughes we’re talking about here. Then you got Jamie Dale who’s an RFA after the season. Young, mobile, skilled. Vancouver could view him as a long-term fit if they’re shifting toward a mini reset. And finally, my boy Emil Andre, the rookie who’s quietly secured a foothold in Philadelphia’s lineup. DeMarco points out something fascinating. Because Andre is smaller like York and Driale, his inclusion would require significantly higher surrounding pieces. But here’s the twist. Demarco says the Flyers internally view those three as unders sized, especially in the context of hard-nosed blue line play that they want to build. Keith Jones wants size. He wants physicality. Wants big frames behind Hughes if they ever acquire him. And that creates a weird dynamic. Flyers might trade an undersized defenseman to acquire another undersized defenseman. But obviously Quinn Hughes is different. Quinn Hughes is elite. He’s a systembreaking game warping player. So yeah, the Flyers might be willing to move one or even two of York Dale or Andre. But here’s the part that Marco stresses. Philadelphia is not going to gut their team. Not even for Quinn Hughes. Not even if Vancouver demands it. This reveals something crucial. Flyers want Hughes, but not at the cost of destroying the roster that he’d be joining. And then there’s the next question that Flyers fans might be asking. When would a blockbuster deal like this actually happen? You might think the Flyers would wait, evaluate the season, see where things stand, and get clarity on extensions, assess cap projections. Uh but according to Anthony DeMarco, that’s not the case. A team source told him that the timing of a potential Hughes acquisition would not play a factor at all. at all. Not the draft, not the off seasonason, not the deadline. Why? Because Hughes is not a rental. He’s under contract until 2027 at a 7.85 average annual value. One of the best value defense contracts in the NHL. And if the Flyers did acquire Hughes and for whatever reason couldn’t lock him up long term, they would still have enough time to flip them and regain massive value. In other words, the Flyers don’t fear the risk. The contract is team friendly enough to protect them. This is important because it signals two things. The Flyers are thinking aggressively, not cautiously. They’re looking for the next needlemoving opportunity. Two, they’re not afraid to act quickly. If Vancouver signals openness, Flyers are not going to wait till the summer. But here’s the real twist. The Canucks have more than one asset that could tempt the Flyers. And this rumor goes just beyond Quinn Hughes. So, you thought Quinn Hughes was the only Canuck link to the Flyers? We better think again. Demarco reports that in the past week, whispers surfaced about the Flyers having interest in some Vancouver forwards due in part to Rick Tockett’s familiarity with the roster. And one name popped up. You guessed it, Kefir Sherwood. Hard-nosed right shot for checking menace. Exactly the kind of player that Tocket loves. So, is there anything to this? Dear, as Demarco points out, absolutely not. And thank God. He writes that while Tocket may be a fan of Sherwood, the Flyers have shown no imminent interest. And honestly, it makes sense. Sherwood’s 30 years old, plays a position the Flyers already have a surplus of and doesn’t really match the timeline of some of the guys that they have coming up here. So, what does this mean? It reinforces that the Flyers eyes are locked on the big prize only. Quinn Effing Hughes. The forward chatter is noise, distractions, second tier speculation. But there is an interesting parallel here. The Flyers expect movement among their own wingers in the next six to seven months. Barky, Bump, Martone, they’re all coming. Spots are going to open up. Deals are going to happen. And this indirectly connects to the Hughes saga. The Flyers know they’re entering a transitional period. They know the roster is evolving, and they know they have more young talent than NHL spots, which means they have the flexibility to make a blockbuster trade without crippling their long-term structure. But flexibility only matters if the price is right. And that brings us to the biggest chapter of all. All right, that’s enough. No more teasing. What would a real Queen Hughes trade package look like based off what we know so far? The non-negotiables, the players that are not available. Absolutely not available for trade, Matt Vichkov, and Porter Martone. These players are untouchable. Next, we have core beloved pieces, but still movable for a true superstar. We have Tyson Forester, Cam York, and Jamie Destell. These are the reluctant yes group. And then we have the sweeteners. Players like Oliver Bon, Emil Andre, Alex Bump, Denver Barky, and potential draft picks in 2026 and 2027. Now, let’s get to realistic packages. And I want you guys to pick which one you like best. First, let’s start with package A. We have Tyson Forester, Cam York, Alex Bump, and a 2027 first round pick. If I’m the Flyers and that’s what it takes to get Quinn Hughes, I’m driving all these guys to the airport. No offense, Tyson Forester, Alex Bumpa. I like these guys, but I’m putting them all up for a Quinn Hughes. All right, let’s get to package B. We have Owen Tippet, who’s been reported Vancouver really likes a lot. And I’m going to keep Cam York in this deal. I’m going to toss in Denver Barky, who you know, a lot of people really like. I still feel he’s undersized, but he’s killing it in the AHL. And I’ll toss in one of the 2027 first round picks, of which the Flyers have two. Remember, they got the first round pick from Toronto for Scott Lton. The real question is here, would Vancouver do any of those? And nobody really knows. The market’s going to be vicious. The Devils are going to still be in play. Detroit’s out there, and who knows, maybe even Buffalo has the assets. Maybe they want to move on from Owen Power and Bow and Byum. I don’t know. Uh, and we know that Toronto is going to be sniffing around as always. But here’s the thing, Flyers fans need to understand. The Flyers are one of the only teams that check all the boxes. They got the cap space, the assets, proven interest, and a player that wants to come out east. Come home, Quinn Hughes. Oh, and Hughes’s relationship with Rick Pocket. That’s the X factor that nobody else has. Now, let’s talk impact because this isn’t just a big trade. This is a franchise reset button. Quinn Hughes in Philadelphia would instantly become he’d become their number one defenseman, their power play one quarterback, their best transition skater, best passer, and their most dynamic playmaker. Yeah, maybe even more dynamic than Trevor Zaggress. And honestly, it might not be close. This isn’t just a defenseman. This is an offensive engine disguised as a defenseman. Imagine Hughes feeding Mechov, Hughes feeding Tippet, Kenkne, feeding Barky if he’s still here, and Porter Martone in the future. This transforms everything. The power play becomes more threatening. Breakouts become automatic. Transition chaos becomes weaponized. Opponents can’t trap the Flyers anymore. The entire pace of play shifts upwards. And Rick Take, he’d have a player he trusts, respects, and already knows inside out. Flyers biggest roster weakness instantly becomes their biggest strength. It’s no secret by now that Keith Jones and Dana Brier want a blue line that can skate, attack, and defend by possession. And Quinn Hughes is the literal definition of that philosophy. And the trickle down effect, it’s going to be wild. Dale might play freer and faster if he’s still here. Sanheim anchors a shutdown pair. Bonk gets a perfect developmental environment. Andre becomes a luxury, not a necessity. Hughes isn’t a player that you add. Hughes is a system that you add. The Flyers haven’t had a defenseman like this since, well, Mark How. So, after all of this, how real is this rumor? Is Quinn Hughes actually a flyer in the making or is this just fun December chaos? Let me give you the blunt honest answer. This is real interest and I believe mutual interest but not a real negotiation yet. An Marco made it very clear in his article. The Flyers have not spoken with Vancouver. Not spoken with Vancouver. The Flyers are interested. Flyers do have assets. They would consider painful pieces like Forester Tippet York. Flyers will not include Martone Mechov. the timing is not an issue. They could trade for him today. Takah Hughes relationship is very important, so keep an eye on that. Vancouver’s price will be astronomical. So, here’s my final takeaway. If Quinn Hughes is ever truly made available and traded, the Flyers will be one of the teams in the race. That’s without a doubt surefire fact. The interest is real, the fits real, and the possibilities no doubt real. But we’re not there yet. The Flyers are no longer rebuilding the asset poor capstract team from five years ago. That’s gone. They’re now a team with draft capital, cap space, prospect, stability, identity, a long-term vision, and a front office unafraid to swing big. They are finally in a position to take a home run swing. Quinn Hughes, that’s the biggest swing available in the entire NHL. So, Flyers fans, keep your notifications on. Keep your eyes on Vancouver. And if the Canucks season continues to spiral, don’t be surprised the Flyers become one of the central players in the biggest trade rumor of this season. 1. Hughes has 2 years left on his contract at a bargain basement price. That's why his value right now is so high. He's a former Norris winner who is still arguably one of the two best defensemen in the game. I don't see the Fiyers as a fit, though. I would think a team that thinks they're a bona fide contender would be the one(s) willing to pay top dollar for him, because he'd put any Cup contender over the top. The Flyers don't seem to be there yet.

  2. As a Canuck's fan, theres no way they accept either of those packages. We are trading our #1 untouchable, if you want him guess what, Mitchkov or Martone plus a bit more. Either way good speculation but I doubt Phillie would be the landing spot.

Lots of teams that can offer similar packages…

    New Jersey
    Detroit
    Carolina
    Buffalo
    Anaheim

It would be a bidding war much like the Rantanen sweepstakes last year but likely bigger

  3. When an elite player might be a available…it's always worth looking at and considering.
With that said … Is an elite Dman really….what we need right now? I would say … absolutely not. We need an Elite 1C! Hell… A solid 2C right now. Center …is the single biggest hole on this roster.
The entire Defense has shown improvement over last year and Risto is still out. The solid Goal Tending by Vladar is likely the reason for the statistical improvement. He may just end up being the real solid Tender we've need for so long.
I do not want to see top prospects and draft picks pissed away…. To fill the second primary issue with the roster. I'd rather see the primary hole dealt with.
Lastly…for a young player that wants to be an 80s Sutter Brother….lol. Play with his Bros….will he want to move to a team in the same division? Of course not.
I think this is just a lot of wasted air. I don't see Danny and Jones making this move. They have been rebuilding conservatively…the right way… And making this move just doesn't make sense. My vote…if I had one ..😉….hard pass! Unless…it's some crazy deal we would be crazy to pass on.

  4. Porter Martone absolutely should not be off the table for Hughes, not only is winger the only position of strength the flyers have moving forward, do you know how good Martone would have to be to end up regretting that trade? He’d literally have to be the best winger in the NHL to maybe regret the move. Hughes is generationally great, and if traded for and resigned would end up being the best d man in there history. If for some reason he refused to resign you just flip him to a team that’s all in to win a cup for a prospect comparable to Martone, and maybe at a more pressing position

  5. York might not go as he and Zegras are best buds and that really helps on a team.
Me, okay, I don't mind giving up some of the AHL/College guys (Bump, Barkey), Tippett, Drysdale or Andre….and the 27 pick

  6. I guarantee this is how Danny gets our 1D… And I am sure the Hughes bros each prefer championship first then playing for aone another so their plans to play with one another can come in 5-7 years bc they are still all so young and it does not HAVE TO BE NOW bc one of teh bros is close to retirement!!! The leverage the Flyers has is how clearly QH does not want to play in Vancouver!!!

  7. The 2026 cap space that seemed to go awry due to all the key FA's already resigning will be now used for re-upping Quinn Hughes and treat that extension like that big FA signing this upcoming summer!!! Btw, I would rather include both 1st rounders if we can keep Foerster…

  8. Well done….just subscribed. You keep the vid flowing and the content is solid. As far as your two options…pull the trigger on either, or any mix of either. A trade for a guy like Hughes doesn't come along often, if ever.

  9. It would have to be a 2026 first rounder unprotected for Vancouver. Or there telling you to go pound salt . And as far as it comes to being in the race, you and at least 25 other teams.

  10. I knew if I watched this video that you would piss me off. You people are acting like Quinn. Hughes is the next Wayne Gretzky. If the Canucks wouldn’t take Tippet, Brink, Drysdale and Toronto’s first round pick for Hughes. Then the flyer should move on. Anything more than that is a severe.

  11. I don't care if we were trying to trade Makar, let alone Quinn! We shouldn't even consider trading Foerster. So I'd pass on Package A in a second. Package B is way better! Or my suggestion let Vancouver have their choice in defenseman…Drysdale, Andrae or York & give them Tippett, a 1st rounder & if that doesn't get it done give them their choice in our prospect pool in either Bump or Barkey. But I absolutely not selling Foerster. He is more valuable than the stats show to the FLYERS!

  12. Don’t be an idiot man! Hughes would much rather play in Philly than many other cities in the league and he’d get to be in the same division as his brothers!

Briere should trade Tippet, York and a 1st rd draft pick for Hughes. This would get it done! Remember Philly would also have to carry the cap hit
