This Changes EVERYTHING…

This changes everything as the Phoenix Suns dropped their second matchup of the year to the Houston Rockets on Friday night. Their first game without superstar Devin Booker. And we’re going to get into exactly how this team played without their MVP on the court as well as an update from head coach Jordan Au on Deon Booker’s injury, which hopefully has positive implications for Monday’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. But guys, let’s get into this game against the Houston Rockets on Friday night. Obviously, not the outcome that we wanted, but let’s just take a look at the box score here first of all. And, you know, very tough score to look at first off. We know that the first game against the Houston Rockets this year was also not an easy one. Devin Booker did not play his best in that game either, shooting around third sub 35% from the field. Obviously, Houston Rockets are a very talented defensive team, but you take a look through the quarters here. Now, they kept up in the first quarter, but pretty much from the second quarter on, it was pretty much just a dud from there. The Houston Rockets are very powerful team. Big thing about them is their size advantage. I mean, they have so many players that are like 6’6 and over. You’ve had players like Steven Adams, Kevin Durant, Aman Thompson, Jabari Smith Jr., Tari E, Alprren Shenun. Now, Tari E and Alpern Shenun did not play that game. Alpern Shenun was scratched just a game time decision right before the game started. But yeah, pretty much uh all throughout the game it was kind of just a dud. Uh Suns were not hitting their shots. You can take a look at the box score here from the Phoenix Suns. And I mean, you can look there from the three-point line. Five for 36 from three. Now, this was just this was bound to happen at some point this year, guys. I mean, a team is going to have an off night regardless. I mean, they’re not going to be shooting. They’re not going to be on for the entire season. But the Suns remain one of the best three-point shooting teams in the NBA. They’re top 10 in three-pointers made per game. And they’re also top 10 in three-point percentage. So, definitely not something to scoff at here or anything to worry about. This team knows what they can do behind the ark. Uh, and you know, they know that they’re going to knock down shots. They know how streaky they are and how efficient they can be with the three-point shooting. But just to get into some players here and specifically before I get into Devin Booker, I want to shout out Jamari Buouay who had a careerhigh night in points coming out of the G- League scoring 18 points on excellent efficiency there. 64% from the field and you know just to come out of the G-League there and uh sign a a little a little contract here with the NBA and you know really make his presence known on the floor so soon uh and early into the season is just really great to see and he’s going to make a great impact on this Suns team so far with Deon Booker being out and you know it’s another thing to play on this team with so much guard depth with guys like Dylan Brooks who’s like guard forward small forward but you know he’s still kind of a guard at heart and you have guys like Jordan Goodwin and Colin Gillespie and Grayson Allen so and of course Deon Booker It’s really impressive to see a guy who, you know, is just coming from the G- League and is able to compete with these guys on the death chart and, you know, really make his presence known on the floor. So, just wanted to shout him out, you know, give him his flowers for obviously having a career high. Super impressive thing to see against such a talented team uh in the Houston Rockets. And another guy I want to look at was Rashir Fleming, who I know the box score doesn’t indicate that he probably had the best game. He he only played uh eight minutes, but I mean, just looking at him in the fourth quarter where he did play most of his minutes, I mean, you can just tell that this guy has a relentless motor. I mean, he hustled everywhere, whether it was off the ball, on the ball, on the defensive end, and on the offensive end. You can tell that he’s really tenacious on defense. Uh, he obviously didn’t hit any of his three-point shots, but he is doing extremely well in the G- League along with Kam Malawatch. He actually hit a a gamewinner in the G-League uh this past week. So, just wanted to give him his flowers. I think that later on to the season, I think he could really earn a possible rotation spot if he continues to impress in the G- League or perhaps if someone gets injured. don’t really have a lot of true power forwards on this team right now, which is something that we’re really missing and something that we do really need. So, I I really do have a good feeling about Rashir Fleming and what he can do for this team later on into the season as we continue to contend with the better teams in the Western Conference as you know we do have a tough schedule coming up which I will talk about in just a minute there. Before we talk about the schedule getting into that, I want to talk about obviously the absence of Devin Booker who was not here for this game and what he brings to this team when he is there and the difference of what everything looks like when he isn’t there. And the biggest thing about that is just gravity. I mean, when he’s off the ball or when he’s on the ball, of course, opponents are pretty much just all going to be looking at Deon Booker because I mean, he’s the main bucket getter for the Phoenix Suns. He’s the guy that they’re going to look for to score points and get him on the board. We know that Deon Booker is can score on all three levels efficiently uh at a very high ability. We know what he can do offensively on the floor. And that’s the biggest thing that he brings to this this team is gravity. and a lot of the opponents on defense are going to gravitate towards him, which opens up spots for other people, other players on the basketball court. And that’s something that was obviously showing on Friday night against the Houston Rockets because, you know, guys weren’t getting to their spots as they typically were, which is another testament to Devin Booker’s playmaking ability. Not just his gravity, but his passing ability and his ability to be a facilitator this year was obviously missed because guys like Dylan Brooks and Colin Gillespie and Grayson Allen weren’t getting to their usual spots as they were because, you know, Deon Booker’s not driving it in, kicking it out, bringing other teams around him when he gets the ball when he’s on the three-point line or when he’s driving to the rim or um when he’s trying to pull up or get in the the high post for like a little mid-range fadeaway. You know, he brings the opponents over to him so he can open up opportunities for other teammates. So that’s one of the things that Devin Booker brings to the Suns right now and you know hopefully he can make the game for Monday against the Minnesota Timberwolves. We’ll get into a little update from Jordan not about that later but kind of looking at the Houston Rocket score over here. I mean Kevin Wright was pretty much on the entire night scoring 28 points on 65% from the field and you know that’s something that Jordan mentioned in the post game is that you know he’s just getting to his spots and there’s not really much you can do to stop Kevin Durant. I mean he’s pretty unfair as an NBA player. the kind of guy uh the kind of frame that he has and the kind of build that he has. It’s just pretty much impossible to guard. I mean, so many players and coaches have just said it before, there’s nothing you can really do to guard Kevin Durant. The only thing you can hope is that he just misses, which, you know, he obviously didn’t do that night. And I said before that another thing is just their size advantage. I mean, Kevin Durant, Amen Thompson, Josh Kogi, Josh Kogi is only like six foot three, but Jabari Smith, Stephen Adams, Azen Thompson, they’re all 6’6 and taller. And then you have Alvin Shangun and Tari East who didn’t play. Uh, and those guys are excellent players in their own right. So, I can’t imagine how the game would have went if those two would have played. But, yeah, overall guys, uh, ugly game from the Phoenix Suns. Obviously, did not go the way that we wanted it to. But, of course, I think I feel a lot better about, uh, this team right now, uh, given that they’re going up against a lower opponent in the Minnesota Timberwolves, which we did a really good job against the last time we were playing them, where Colin Gillespie did have that excellent gamewinner. So, I do feel good about this game heading into Monday. But, we’re going to look at some comments from Jordan A here after the game, as well as Mark Williams. And you know, Drew Knot went to say that just overall after the loss that you know, they put they put him in soft touch positions playing in the open floor and their ability to get to the rim and in the paint. And every time it seemed to touch Katie’s hands, he made the right play in the second quarter. And then he went on to say on the Suns looks from three as they went from five to 36. He’s saying that ball movement, do we screen well enough? Do we play fast enough? I think all of that goes into it live. It felt all right, but when you uh keep looking down or looking up at the scoreboard, that number is not moving in the right direction and you definitely question it. And then also to give this positive little update on Deon Booker. Jord said that we’ll continue to assess him day by day, but he’s been through this before. Uh he knows exactly where he’s at and his body and he’s made good progress in a short amount of time. Uh and then of course he said that if his body is feeling good and he’s in a good place, he’ll absolutely be available. So that’s good to hear for Devin Booker for Monday against the Minnesota Timber Rules. We’re really going to need him there for that game. But guys, that is going to do it for today’s video. Please let me know what you think about this loss against the Houston Rockets and maybe what the Suns could do a little better without Deon Booker being on the floor and hopefully he will play on Monday against the the T-Wolves and give me some comments about what you think they can do against a team like that too and hopefully pull out the win. Um overall guys, hopefully Devin Booker does play. I know this team looks really different without their star shooting guard on the floor, but you know, the other guys like Jamari Buouet, Jordan Goodwin, Colin Gillespie, those guys are going to have to step up and of course make sure that the Suns get the much neededed wins that they do right now to stay competitive in the Western Conference.

Jack Kieley breaks down how the Phoenix Suns look like a totally different team without their superstar shooting guard Devin Booker after their loss to the Houston Rockets in their second matchup of the season. We also dive into some comments from Head Coach Jordan Ott on Devin Booker’s availability for Monday’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

  1. If they shoot better percentage and don't cause turnovers they can win every game especially against good teams their defense shows that they could do it go Suns

  2. commenting Bobby Portis Jr. til it comes into existence. Am willing to wait out this whole year though, since they're not winning anyway, and you'll have more time to develop in-house, raise asset values, and have more flexibility in the summer. But this squad is built to get better on a weekly basis from here on out. It might be worth pulling a Royce for Bobby deal at the deadline, to see how far they can go this year.
