Nick Krall and Terry Francona weren’t divulging much on Monday about the Reds efforts to land free agent Kyle Schwarber.

  1. What else was he going to say? That’s a middle of the road answer that doesn’t reveal their plans. I highly doubt they sign him but if you expect them to explicitly say “oh yeah we’re deep in talks with him” or anything close to an answer, you are delusional. Just let it play out and we will overreact accordingly.

  2. Might be my pessimism talking, but sounds like quotes of a man who knows they aren’t making a competing offer

  3. Read recently that the Mets are throwing their hats into the ring, Reds stand no chance financially.

  4. If the Reds offered him something like 4/28 to the Phillies’ 4/30 then I think he’s a Red. If the Phillies go higher or add a fifth year then he’s a Phillie imo. I don’t think the Reds would (or maybe should) go over 30M

  5. I am definitely in the minority here, I know. But I don’t want anything to do with Schwarber at the moment. He will be 33 years old, going into his 13th MLB season, strictly a DH, and will cost over 30 million AAV most likely.

He’s coming off a career year, I just know that we’ve signed these kinds of players in the last few years, and have come to regret these contracts after about a year or two…

IDK. I like the player, not the price.

  6. I think that he signs with the Mets, and probably by the end of the Winter meetings. Honestly I hope it’s done so we can move on to more realistic expectations.

  7. If we sign Kyle Schwarber it will be a miracle. On top of it, we still need bullpen help and another bat. No way Bob spends that type of money. He should but he won’t.

  8. Here’s a guy that has hit a boat load of home runs the last few years, would provide lineup protection, & be a big club influence but ownership would rather wallow in the depths of mediocrity. Shit even the pirates tossed out a decent offer to the guy.

  9. If they do land him, it will be a massive overpay. 6 years. It will age poorly, anyway.

  10. Nobody is saying much. I’d like to think that’s good news. Maybe I’m way off base, though.

  11. The chances are 0%, and that’s optimistic. We’re talking about the biggest horse shit franchise on planet earth. They aren’t signing him

  12. Anybody else not that stoked on signing him? I feel like the only way we outbid the major contenders is if we overpay AND give him a longer contract , and I could see him falling off in a couple seasons and we are stuck with a stork around our neck contract like Jeimer Candelario in 5 years.
