[Francys Romero] Sources: Aroldis Chapman is on Great Britain’s preliminary roster for the 2026 World Baseball Classic. A few documents and formalities are still pending, but the plan is for him to take part in the event if the Red Sox grant permission.

  1. the pitching change from a random guy throwing 78 miles an hour to Aroldis Chapman would certainly be something

  2. Ok, Mr. Chapman, in order to join us, you must not just speak perfect English, but you must perfect the English accent like an everyday Brit.

  3. I wouldn’t have guessed that the British team would ever have an occasion to use a closer…

  4. In some ways the WBC is like a Chapelle skit.. ‘the Asian delegation has drafted, Wu Tang Clan.. what an upset !! ‘

  5. Does he know he can’t own a gun there? How will he settle disputes with his spouse?

  6. One area the WBC needs to improve is reporters actually knowing the roster rules. Aroldis Chapman is eligible for GB and he does not need any bit of permission from Boston. If he says he wants to play, they cannot stop him.

  7. Well he defected from Cuba, so he’s not playing for them. His Grandpa was from Jamaica, which was a British colony at the time, so there’s your connection. No Jamaican team to play for.

  8. As a Brit this is so damn lame. He’s very famously Cuban, from Cuba, lives in Cuba, family is Cuban. He is not British. I bet he’s never been to Britain.

I’d rather be a crap team than have some guy with literally no tie to the nation join the team through some loopholes and documentary gymnastics.

  9. The speciously tenuous tangential connection some players make to a country to justify playing on that team in the WBC is hilariously nonsensical.

  10. If he can do that, he should get to Brisbane stat and join the Poms executioner’s march to getting blanked in the Ashes.
