Hello everyone,

Not sure, if this post confers to all the subreddit rules, but I hope so. (Had to pick a random picture to being able to post.)

I’m a rather new Browns fan from Germany. 6 years ago, I picked a team to have a small talk topic at work. And of course I went with the best colors and the most creative logo (a helmet? genius). Fell in love with Nick Chubb. Had a taste of the post season. Hated the Deshaun Watson trade, loved the Joe Flacco comeback story.

Now, isn’t Shedeur Sanders the best thing, that could’ve happened to the Browns at this moment? And isn't the manner this season has unfolded the only way that made it possible?

For what I understand, it is completely unrealistic to draft another QB next year, with Deshaun Watson still on the payroll. But what, if we’ve already gotten a promising QB for a steal (the salary depends on the draft position, if I’m not mistaken?) that can mitigate the last year of the contract and also has potential to be our future franchise QB? Even if he is washed now after the injury, the best thing you can still get out of Watson is having him mentor Sanders (and Gabriel for what it’s worth, but I can’t see them vibing). I mean, from what I'm hearing, he once was a very good QB.

This year’s draft class is phenomenal. Use the capital next year to fix the offense (and maybe ST). And then see, what Shedeur can do with a whole Preseason of first team practice.

But they couldn’t have done it this season. The coaches had to, for a lack of a better word, break Shedeur, to humble him. And now they have to spoon-feed him, little by little, a new, more mature, confidence, which he is capable of, I’m absolutely certain. If I compare his interviews now to the ones before the draft, you can see that his cockiness is just shielding a lot of insecurities. Now he seems humble, while still having faith in himself and god (which he seems to talk a lot about now). You can feel that he believes in his destiny and really could become legendary. Of course the coaching staff saw his potential. But if he would’ve played from the start, or even just trained with the first team, he probably would still be unbearable. In German there is an expression: the Walk to Canossa. If you would’ve told him after his first game, that he will start the rest of the season, maybe he could’ve fallen back into old habits. I think, that is what Kevin Stefanski is trying to do. He is playing the bad cop. Maybe he could smile a bit more from time to time, be a little more lighthearted, but then again, we don’t know how he is acting behind closed doors.

And all of this couldn’t have happened any time sooner. Shedeur had to fall through the draft for the Browns to pick him up so cheap. He had to be stinted this season. And you all know, that he will have his big moment, as late in the season as possible. It really is, perfect timing.

So, I’m already very excited for next year’s draft and season. Now, in good Browns tradition, please shatter my hopes 🙂

  1. I think best case scenario was a tank to get a real oline and a receiver or two. Whether Shedeur is a top 10 guy or a bum, we’d at least have the building blocks.

We also have our pick in 2027 so if we absolutely need a QB, I’m sure they’d consider tanking. Shedeur just tides us over in the worst case and is a franchise guy in the best case. Forcing a tank with Shedeur’s potential breakout year next year is probably the worst thing we can do though, bad for morale, literally wasted Myles too.

We can even use our “fuck it” picks in the 6th or 7th on a fast receiver. I’m more hopeful than I’ve been in a long time. Pretty much anything is better than having Juedy dropping every other ball.

  2. I was not a fan of him at first. But so far I’m coming around and happy with his play so far. Does he have what it takes to progress and become our franchise QB next year? I think he does. The problem is it won’t happen with Stefanski.

  3. Before the 2025 draft, I’d say the only way the Browns could overcome the Watson debacle is to find a FQB in the draft. It’s too early to tell but it’s still better than if we’d only taken DG. Let’s wait until the season is over and enjoy what football is left.

  4. I miss Nick Chubb. He just ran around and over everyone and we didn’t worry about QB play as much.

  5. The best thing that could have happened this season is Flacco does well or Gabriel works out before there’s too many losses and the Browns make the playoffs with a good offense and great defense.

  6. Unwanted? Unwanted by who? I was very happy to get one of the best QBs in the draft in the 5th round.

  7. I thought it was worth the risk in the fifth round. Now the important part is to get him some help.

  8. Mfs be getting happy too damn quick 😂. Chill out he’ll probably be another failed test for us.

  9. I hope he can and pretty sure everyone just was sort of sick of all the shedeur fans talking shit. I am not fully convinced he is the guy but I hope like hell he is. If we can use the 2 firsts next year and add some serious talent on offense that would be great. I assume bitonio and Conklin retire freeing up cap space and hopefully wypler can fill pocics spot. We need lots of o line help so we should draft at least 2 and sign one or 2 in free agency.

  10. I’m of the opinion that taking a QB in next year’s draft is just asking for them to fail. Draft a receiver and an OL with your 2 first two rounds this year, probably even commit the next two to those groups as well. Then draft the best available players on the board, see what Shedeur (and Gabriel if it’s really bad) can do with a real receiver, and go from there.

Next year will have Sayin, and if we do a possible trade back again (I don’t know what Tate will fall to, but I can’t imagine he’s a top 5 pick or past 20, and as a biased OSU fan, he’s the guy I want), then getting another highly touted receiver with him would be possible (and if Shedeur is servicible they could try to trade up with 2 firsts for Jerimiah smith, who’s the best receiving prospect we’ve seen since randy moss, but that’s a pipedream)

  11. I actually agree with you.

(I think given the Watson albatross, the plan was originally seasoned cheap QBs who could keep us hopefully competitive, and drafting other positions. I think DG was seen as a bridge to get us through Watson’s contract as a long term backup to whatever vet we signed on a 1-yr till we got through… and then Sanders dropped far enough that they considered he could be a legit starter if humbled a bit, which so far seems like it’s panning out okay at least.

If it were me, I’d run Sanders 1 Gabriel 2 next year, spend the first four picks on 2 OL, 1 WR, 1 DL (so teams can’t overcommit to Myles), then take flyers on day 3. Also think ST coach needs to go, and seriously consider worth Levardain deserves a spot on the roster with how poorly he’s done the last few games.)

  12. Guy from Germany with only 6 years of watching football has better input than 99% of the Browns fanbase.

  13. Most browns thing will be drafting another qb in the top 5 next year. Give Sanders a whole off season and next year. Then the 2026 class looks interesting if he isnt the guy.

  14. I don’t know but that , unwanted comma isn’t the best thing to happen to this post title

  15. All I see is you posting words like “us” and “our” and I just love it. Great post, tl;dr, I’m happy for you, or sorry that happened to you

  16. I stand by my theory that the browns always mess up players and Shaduer already messed himself up during the draft with his antics so now browns messing him up actually made him good because he already messed up

  17. Without a real coach it won’t matter who’s at qb! Shadeur threw for 350 and 3 TD’s and we lost to a 1-11 team that had lost 8 games in a row. Somehow stefanski holds his job even though we get worse every year

  18. I won’t shatter your dreams entirely lol. We will see how it goes with Sheduer, there is as of now still a good chance they take a QB and a O lineman. Cool to hear from international fan!

  19. I’m just glad he’s been improving week to week and playing well. I’ve wanted him on this team basically since he got to Colorado and am glad we picked him up. I really really want him to be the guy. If he is it’s really the best case scenario. Cheap QB under contract, unreal roster building draft class, if it gets followed up with another solid class and FA this team is back

  20. I am a long time fan and follower of Deion Sanders and family. Sheduer appears to be the same mature, hard-working, fun-loving, joyful, caring, compassionate, generous, grateful, faith-filled, teachable, respectful, disciplined, talented, confident (not cocky nor perfect) team-player he has always been. He also happens to love his family and football, enjoy music and making music and nice things to which he is accustomed due to his family’s means and his own brand which has been building since childhood. He doesn’t talk down on or consider himself above others. He is authentically himself. However, he is a most misunderstood young man by folks who have not been as exposed to him down through the years as evidenced by the often discussed and/or reported mischaracterizations. Is he still maturing as he grows into adulthood and through life experiences? Of course he is, as we all should be. Does he need to be broken and humbled (or humiliated)? Do you mean like a horse? I know you mean well with this post and I appreciate that it is mostly positive and encouraging but also just a tad insulting. If he isn’t found to be a fit for the Browns, that would be unfortunate because it’s where he really wants to be but, such is life. His faith will continue to direct his path and he will blossom where he is planted. I wish him and the Browns organization all the best as they move forward. Hopefully, they/we will be winning together! Signed, a Shedeur Sanders Auntie (non-rabid nor toxic 😊)

  21. From the very start I was Shedeur over DG.

I am not even sure what anyone saw in DG that would make them believe he is the one. He is a nice guy, great teammate, can be a useful backup but he just doesn’t have the arm nor the speed. That’s an unmovable rock ceiling.

Shedeur had some nice games, throws, decisions. He is improving. But I am also not sure he can be the guy. Hopefully we can see that in these last few games though I am afraid he’ll have some good games and bad ones as well, and leave us in a limbo.

I am not even sure where to start from there. Drafting another QB, signing a bridge, a backup, a starter, or building around Shedeur? If we miss that, it’s going to be a new years-long process

  22. In a perfect world, he is the answer and we can use those first rounders for receivers or offensive lineman in the next draft

I’m not convinced he is the answer yet. You need to realize that Tennessee is awful. Hell of a third start for sure but I’m remaining cautious and not getting my hopes up.

  23. Sanders was never going to be an issue it was always the media narrative around him. Watching him at Colorado balling out, you knew he was going to add value to an NFL team – he is just built for it.
