know folks are scared to have this conversation, but Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is him. Not “up next.” Not “future superstar.” He’s already playing at a level where, if this is the trajectory for the next decade, we’re looking at the next face of the league and the next player in the GOAT debate after LeBron and Jordan.
SGA is flawless on the court.
Not “good at everything.” Not “well-rounded.” Actually flawless. Name a hole in his game — you can’t. Every category that elite superstars struggle to master, he’s already elite in:

Three-Level Scoring: He doesn’t just get to his spots — he owns them. His midrange is surgical. His finishing is basically Kyrie mixed with peak Wade length and balance. And his shot creation is totally unguardable because he never speeds up.

Footwork & Pace: Nobody in the NBA manipulates pace like SGA. It’s Luka-level control but with way more athletic pop. Defenders literally can’t speed him up or slow him down.

Efficiency: He’s putting up superstar numbers on efficiency that guards should not be able to touch. He gets anywhere he wants without ever forcing the game.

Defense: This is where the conversation changes. The other young “superstars” are one-way guys. Shai is a legitimate, real-impact point-of-attack AND help defender. Long, disciplined, smart, always in the right lane.

IQ: He plays like someone who’s been in the league 15 years. His decision-making is perfect — never rushed, never chaotic, always calculating.

Leadership: OKC goes as he goes. His presence elevates everyone. His demeanor has that Kobe/Jordan calm-killer thing without the theatrics.
And the craziest part? He’s doing all this without the “superteam” narrative, without chasing big markets, without drama, major injuries, or excuses. Just pure basketball.
Every decade gives us a new evolution of the game:

Jordan → Kobe → LeBron → ???
If you’ve been watching ball long enough, you can feel when a guy is different. Shai’s not just putting up numbers. He’s dominating the sport with zero weaknesses — and that’s the profile of a future all-time great.
We are watching the next GOAT candidate in real time.

  1. Once SGA completes a three-peat he’ll be in the conversation. But for now. One step at a time.

  2. Idk, I love how dominate the Thunder have become, but I don’t think anyone has the media dominance that MJ, LeBron, and Kobe had. SGA can play on their level, sure, but I don’t think he has the personality to make people become bandwagon fans like the Lakers, Bulls, and the Heat had.

  3. My favorite thing is how he just rarely if ever turns the ball over. To have the ball in his hands as much as he does and not even have over 2 TOs a game is crazy efficiency and I don’t think it’s talked about enough
