Go give Alonso the same contract you offered for Schwarber. I am 100% happy paying Alonso $30 million a year to be a 135 OPS+ DH for his age 31-34 year old seasons.

  1. if they do not offer the money they spent on Schwarber on Alonso then genuinely fuck this team

  2. Not sure Alonso makes sense, unless they want to adjust the dimensions to make the park better for RH power hitters

  3. Alonzo is significantly better than Schwarber and would command more money than that

  4. These two were on my “ideal-get” list this offseason. Would fill the biggest hole.

  5. Alonso being a righty makes him slightly less appealing for pnc but honestly still worth it imo.

  6. We’ll probably offer something like $30 million less again and lose out on him too

  7. I actually wonder what they are going to do with Horwitz if they do sign a starting level 1B

  8. The Alonso situation the past 2 years has been odd, to say the least. Guys a perennial 40+ home run guy, who also swings a pretty steady bat and plays solid defense. Yet, he can’t seem to land more than a 3 year deal, and last year, a 1 year deal.

  9. Simple question: why would any of these FA sign in Pitt? Poverty franchise wants to make a splash to fill the stadium. Then does absolutely nothing else. Who the fuck wants to play in a mausoleum for the entirety of the rest of their career? Guaranteed any of them take less to go literally anywhere else(except COL). Until ownership changes or some other drastic measure, expect the same result.

  10. There was a bit of an update on Marte. Turns out a few of the “suitors” were just doing due diligence (BOS and TOR).

Anyway the price set by ARZ is one established starting pitcher and multiple prospects close to MLB ready or already there.

Would you do this if you had to give up Keller, one of Burrows/Ashcraft and another prospect?

  11. Honestly I’d be hesitant to past a few years for Alonso either. He’s already 30 and I don’t think he’s going to age great
