Cam Jordan & Tyler Shough on community work | New Orleans Saints

Tyler, when you got here, you talked about how you eventually want to be involved in the community and Cam, you’ve been doing this for years. So, what is so important to y’all that you want to do this and want to get out in the community and be a part of these events? I think for me like Cam’s just been such a great example and tomorrow and all the guys is just showing up and I think a lot of times whenever you have days off or you’re not feeling great. I think a lot of times the biggest difference you can make is just showing up being there you know providing anything that you can and you often you get something in return and being around these kids and supporting um these programs is kind of you know what you look forward to doing and obviously I want to be be here for a while so um it’s just a great opportunity. Consistency is key. I mean you you can give it sometimes but when you give it all the time it becomes a part of you. So the fact that uh you know you have opportunity like this why wouldn’t you show up you know you have opportunity to put a smile on the kid’s face it’s really in my mind what makes us move forward you know one smile today leads to more smiles tomorrow which can hopefully lead to a better community. Has this become more like increasingly important to you over time? No, I think it was always in a priority. Um it’s it has you know the main thing is football and a top priority has been family and kids. You know kids is the the next wave whether we can you know teach one or uh whether that’s education or just putting a smile on a kid’s face. You always want to see the next generation happy. And then Tyler you know you’re standing here next to Cam. Is this kind of the are these kind of the footsteps you want to follow in in terms of entrenching yourself further in the community? Yeah 100%. I remember looking at, you know, just down the street at Arizona Avenue, seeing up him down the wall and seeing kind of everything that he’s done and I’m here standing next to him and I feel like, you know, I don’t deserve to be here yet. So, I’m like, I just want to keep earning it every single day. Um, and but like you said, just an opportunity to come out here and be around everybody is what you, you know, what you ask for. Were you able to do much of this in college, too, or is is this kind of your first time going through it? Like, oh, of course. Yeah. I mean, college there’s I think the the greatest thing now is that there’s so much outreach within that community that you’re in, I’ve been able to kind of have access to multiple communities and um but for being here and obviously as long as Cam’s been here and a lot of these guys, I think you can really pour into it more and um and make that long-lasting impact. If we could ask about uh Sunday’s game too, just curious on why you went with the the shucket uh thing in your speech and Oh, man. Come on. I just felt like it in the right time it was the right place and it it fit together. Um you know after the game just the type of game he had with two tutties on the ground you know what what I thought was about to be be a sack he escapes makes an amazing play. I mean it gives juice to the team. So at the end of the day you know if you if you go on social media all you see is why can’t we do more? whatever it is where he’s played lights out every chance every time he’s got a chance. He showed exactly what uh we drafted him for is to make these plays, make the extended extended plays happen. Um and so it was put on example Sunday. So why not shuck it? And Tyler, what was your reaction to that the moment? H I was I didn’t know I didn’t know what he was going to say for sure. It was just kind of a flow state moment. I was like that was pretty cool because I’ve you know me and my friends kind of been talking about that since high school just because nobody knows how to pronounce it. So, uh, but it was it was a pretty cool one. Obviously, you know, the opinions of my teammates. I said it in the locker room afterwards like all these guys who I care about. So, I think we got we know we got some more work to do and um but obviously a good step. Yeah. You’ve talked about kind of monitoring the respect of your teammates. Is that kind of like an example of you doing that? How else have you noticed just as you’ve gone along this season, your teammates, you earning the respect of the team? It’s I I think it it’s just happens organically every single day, you know, through through different roles, through different moments. You got to earn it every single day and and that’s going to continue. I think Cam’s been a great example of that through years, you know. I think that’s there’s How many new faces has he been a part of and how many teammates has he had that can say positive things about him? So, that’s something that you want to do yourself. Do you all have any uh fond uh Christmas memories that y’all can share with it? Oh, that’s a good one. Uh I remember getting a Razor scooter, the one that you can put sparks on the back on. So you you scoot it and then you could like spark the back and I go out at night and I would put like leaves or like grass and I would try and cause like a fire or something like might have been arson in my neighborhood, but it never never worked though. But the Razor scooter was was pretty sweet back in the day. Yeah, that was a solid Christmas. I remember that one for myself anyway. Yeah. Did you get do you give it to somebody or was it No, I mean I mean this was you know long before you knew how to ride a scooter. Yeah. Um, I probably I probably only topped that with uh what is that? 2000. It could get 2000. 2000. Shoot. Might be 99. N64 was unboxed. Uh uh Smash Bros. was given. Uh me and my brother played uh Nintendo 64 Smash Bros. hours until last year maybe. You know, like it’s it has been a con consistent constant in my life. um uh probably until in brought into the locker room through plenty of teammates through through generations of teammates and this is probably the first year where I haven’t seen it touch the locker room so I guess dreams do die slowly cuz I’m the best. Got to bring it back. You got to bring it back. Yeah. I mean I mean come on. Yeah. Yeah. It’s always Fox and I mean you know now you know I seen they nerfed it in the other games. Yeah. But now it’s on Switch. I was going to say they had Switch on the plane. They’re playing they’re playing Super Smash. No doubt. But the points per damage is just not there anymore. Like it’s not about timing. It’s just about spamming buttons. I was on the I did that on the Wii though. So I don’t know. It’s kind of transition to smaller smaller devices. No doubt. And it’s going to continue. You know, bring it back. Make make the original Flash Bros. Can we do redo that? I think whatever. Everything else. Redoing everything else. Yeah. Bring bring it back. Bring me wireless controllers for the N64. Yeah. Yeah. Any uh that may be happening. Any standout bike related stories? Oh, I would say especially especially when you’re a kid, but in general, just wear a helmet. I remember going head over heels one time down a down a creek cuz you’re trying to race with somebody. But there’s obviously usually bike stories you get, they’re fun until you until you crash and then you got to be smart. Come on. I’m I’m in the thick of bike stories. What do you mean? I’ve got I’ve got a four-year-old transitioning from two wheels to or from four wheels to two wheels. Um but she’s also amazing. So, uh, my, you know, my my four-year-old had tried to take off her her training wheels on her own to to ride cuz she wants to be like her older siblings. Um, and so she’s she she definitely scraped I’d like to say she definitely fell off, but she didn’t cry. So, I’m like lowkey proud of her. So, there’s probably three four games to go, but yeah, we’re rocking. Yeah, we’re we’re everybody’s on two wheels now, so we’re we’re in a great time. Awesome. All right, guys. So, we’re going to go ahead and wrap it up.

New Orleans Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan and quarterback Tyler Shough speak with the media about the importance of giving back to the community at the Raising Cane’s Bike Giveaway event on Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2025.
