The Detroit Red Wings are TERRIFYING… (Here’s why.)
The Detroit Red Wings are absolutely terrifying, even more terrifying than people expected as they sit at the top of the Atlantic division with multiple standout performances. But not only that, they have one prospect in particular that even Red Wings fans haven’t been speaking about, just showing how bright, not only the current is, but the future of this team moving forward as the Steve Yiserin’s plan continues to unfold. We have so much to break down, Darius, in this episode. So, let’s just go straight into it where we know the Detroit Red Wings are sitting top of the Atlantic division coming in with a big record. We seen last night they beat the Vancouver Conucks with a huge game from John Gibson. I want to tip my cap to him as well. But before we get into this prospect and the goalending and everything else, what is your thoughts on this team as a whole? We see some big games beating the Boston Bruins. You get a point versus Columbus. You go out to beat Seattle. you beat the Conucks, you have a game versus Calgary that you should win. I mean, Stevie Eisermanman said himself, “I think it’s important for a team to understand every single point could be the difference of us getting in or out.” Think of two years ago when we missed five points. This is a team that’s came out of the gates top of the Atlantic with multiple standout performances. What is your overall thoughts on just exactly why this team is so terrifying for the rest of the league? And he is correct. If you look back a couple years ago, they just missed the playoffs by just a hair, right? But when you look at this season, everything, not just the Eastern Conference, everything right now is so tight. So many teams are losing in overtime, and that’s keeping the standings very close. So there’s only a couple big game players, if you want to call them that, in each conference right now. I’m looking at the Carolina Hurricanes. The New Jersey Devils have completely fallen off a cliff lately. And when you look at the Western Conference, there’s only a handful of teams at the top there as well. all the Dallas Stars, of course, the Colorado Avalanche, but the rest of the league is so tight. So, you’re definitely in the mix right now. And I mean, they’re first in the in the Atlantic division for a reason. They had a hot start to the season. Yes, you dip. All teams do during the course of a season. You deal with injuries, all of that stuff. But it looks like they’re putting some good performances back together here. And you can see, you know, Dylan Larkin is leading the way. Lucas Raymond has certainly at this point arrived as a young superstar in this league. He’s been phenomenal as well. So, you’re getting great performances up and down the lineup. You’re still in the mix because, of course, things can change very quickly in the Eastern Conference this year, right? You can find yourself out of a playoff spot very quickly. But, it’s a weird year. Toronto Maple Leafs, you know, got the Florida Panthers on the outside looking in at the playoffs. The Pittsburgh Penguins are in a playoff spot right now. I feel like some of these teams that started really hot are going to come down to earth a little bit. and a team like Detroit that has made some solid moves and that are primed to, you know, move into the playoffs finally are going to do just that this year. So, this team, I think, is scary good in this very crowded and very tight Eastern Conference. Cuz I think the big thing is too, you’re looking at Detroit, you know, the top end talent you have on this team. Prime Time, Patty Kane on this team, Lucas Raymond, Dylan Lurin, there’s so many big names, but even Emtt Finny coming in with an incredible start to the season. Looking through the lineup, even on defense, you have this youth movement. Yes, this is the team that you have the veterans. You have guys stepping up, but this is a team that’s going to continue growing as time goes on. You have a multiple 20-year-olds sitting in that middle six that can really step up. Casper is a guy you want to become incredible. Sodalum, a big body. These guys are going to continue getting better. Yes, there’s a lot of talk about Golden. Once again, we’re going to get in that very soon, but Darius, looking at the team, we know this team is going to be very active come deadline. We’ve seen last year they spoke on it, didn’t really do a lot. We see the team linked to Quinn Hughes, which will be an insane ad on the team with an already stacked back and of course led the way with Cider. Darius looking at the team, there’s a lot of things you can do. You can add some more veterans. You can pick up more players. Jvie scored a goal last night. We can even watch the clip. Everyone is stepping up in different outputs. Do you think this is the team where maybe Stevie Eisman looks and says, “Hey, we have a young core. We have a lot of young assets. We’re going to touch on one player in particular soon, but could you see them being big game fishing when it comes trade deadline?” I think it’s all dependent on where they land closer to the trade deadline because I think a lot of teams are saying that right now too. I mean, if you look at the New York Rangers around the league, is Paneran going to stay? Is he going to go? Oh, it depends on where we’re at nearing the trade deadline, right? So, they could pull the rug out as well from under that team and then all of a sudden you have a team like the Red Wings or anybody else in the Eastern Conference that would then take that spot. So, things are going to be very dependent on that. I think heading closer to the trade deadline. But yes, I do believe they can be buyers at this year’s trade deadline. I think they want to add I think they want to finally make the playoffs and anything that makes it easier to do that, they’re going to look at. And obviously, like you mentioned, Quinn Hughes, this is one of the only teams when you’re looking at a Quinn Hughes trade package that it actually makes sense and they do have the assets to acquire said player. So, uh, that could be in the mix as well. And the one thing we haven’t really touched on, we’re going to definitely in just a few minutes, uh, more of a deep dive as well, is they have goalending this year. They went out and got a goalender, right? They have defined goalending now. So, to me, this team is poised to make the playoffs. Where exactly what position? I have no idea. Nobody can predict that at this point. And if you do uh if you did earlier this season before the season started and you end up getting it right, hats off to you because this has been insane. Everyone swapped positions every two days at this point. So things are going to continue to be crazy. But for me, they have a lot of really good uh players and good positions here, uh defined positions, and I think they they are in a position to be buyers. And I mean, listen, Red Wings fans, we’re going to get into goalies, but before we do, pause real quick. Go down and let us know, would you like Quinn Hughes on this team? Leave a Y for yes. Let us know why you think they should get him. But let’s get straight into the goalenders. Listen, there’s a lot of talk around this. The trade to get John Gibson to come over. We know Cam Talban showed out last year, but the goalenders haven’t been as strong as a lot of people talk about. We know what they can do. We have someone like John Gibson that is a workhorse. We’ve seen what he did with the Ducks season after season. Putting up good numbers on a bad team. Now he’s on a good team putting up kind of weird numbers. So, a bounceback is going to happen. But I’ve seen a lot of talk around the NHL from Detroit fence. Speaking of one player in particular, and that is Sebastian Kasha. Now, looking at the AHL with the Grand Rapids, we’re going to get into their stats, but Darius, what we’re seeing out of the young goalender in the AHL is phenomenal. One of the best save percentages, not only for his age, but overall in the AHL with a 943. We can see the record 10-1. This may change when you’re going to watch this or whenever you’re watching this, but at the very moment, this kid is the most electric goalender. You could see from the clip, and we’ll run it again after we see these two big goals by Detroit. But what we’re seeing is a goalender emerging as a future star for this Red Wings team. We’ve seen it at every level, including the AHL. That is an insane saved Darius. I know you actually watched that live, but this is a guy looking through the stats once again. Sorry, I popped that up again. But looking at it, you can pause and look at the save percentage. It’s over 900 950 every game. I can’t even talk. It’s that insane. What is your thoughts on this caderius and the future of him on this team? Yeah, we were talking about how they added goalending this year and that’s for the team right now, but they have their goalender of the future down there in the AHL right now putting up crazy numbers. Kasa has been absolutely phenomenal. Like you mentioned, I saw that save live on the weekend and I could not believe my eyes. Nobody. The air was sucked out of the building in Coca-Cola Coliseum when that went down. Uh because the the Marlies were so close to beating the at the time 171 and1 Grand Rapids Griffins are now 191 and1. They’re unbelievable this season. That’s another story line why I think, you know, they they are that much scary. Look at what their farm team is doing. Some of the prospects they have down there now. They have some NHLers on the back end and of course Kasa Net. You have Justin Hall and Eric Custoen on the back end. But Kison’s more offensive minded, all of these things. But you have Costa coming up. He’s the goalender of the future. The numbers he’s putting up, he looks calm, poised. He’s only lost one time this season. I mean, they’ve only lost two times this season, so he’s been unbelievable. Like you said, he’s putting up crazy save percentage numbers. This guy is their future. A former first round pick, so you would of course expect him to be very good, but you’re seeing it in motion right now. It’s almost like not that he’s too good for the AHL, but he’s definitely ready for the NHL, I think, coming up here soon. And the knock on the the Red Wings has always been in this last little era, the last maybe I don’t know, six years at this point, five years, six years, is that they didn’t have the goalending to get them over the hump right into the playoffs into a playoff spot. So, they’re in a good way right now, the main roster, and they’ll be fine for the future as well with Kasa there as well. That save was unbelievable and he played a great game to get them a win because it was a tight game. They only won three to2 and they scored their third goal late in the third period. But I mean, fans, what is your thoughts? Is this the next Jimmy Howard coming through Detroit? Mark has a second channel?
WIngs have 35, Bruins and Bolts have 36. How are they in 1st?
I heard Edvinsson's name mentioned in the possible Hughes trade with Vancouver. I'm really reluctant about trading this guy, as we are no where close to seeing his potential imo. Plus I believe his salary is pretty digestible for a few years. Is Hughes that much of a game changer?
The only people that should be terrified of the Red Wings are Red Wings fans because that's the only group they are actually a threat to. Hot and cold scoring, no blueline to speak of and all 18 guys are 100% committed to hanging the goalies out to dry every night. 6th in the division, 11th in the East.
Defense is a liability for the RW. They are -7 goal diff & goaltending hasn't been bad.
