Worst case scenario interview.
This is insanely bad news wow. I can’t believe it’s this bad.
Only position player we’re linked to Kim. No plans to add to the bullpen or starting rotation other than additional depth.
We are planning to let Skubal walk and get the draft pick from him signing somewhere else, or somehow sign him in free agency (doubt it).
We are projected to be around ~15th in payroll so front office isn’t likely to spend money. Mind you this is with only 4 players projected to make over $10M this year – Skubal, Flaherty, Gleyber, and Baez.
3 of those players are free agents after this year, and Javy’s contract is finally up after 2027.
What are we actually doing? It literally seems like Scott is choosing to do nothing when we have the best pitcher in baseball because he’s so risk averse. Sign a bat! Sign a rotation piece! If Skubal actually walks after this year this is the last year we are contenders for an unknown amount of time.
Very frustrated
Per Petzold:
1. Doesn’t expect Tigers to trade Skubal
2. Doesn’t expect Tigers to go all in to win with Skubal if they hold him
3. Doesn’t expect the Tigers to extend/resign Skubal
Horrible
its so refreshing how honest Evan is, those of you who watch the other teams will know that if you listen to the beat guys they carry water for the GM and are so afraid to criticize and Evan over and over is over the top critical and I love it. Max for the Wings is a bit too, don’t really read the Pistons guys anymore but JE3 while we sucked never criticized team, FO or players, Lions guys either. So nice, he called Scott scared to make moves lol multiple times, love it!
Awful but expected news. Couldn’t imagine going to a game to support this regime. I’m excited to see Mcgonigle, but this a total mismanagement of Skubal and the chance to get to a World Series, which they seemingly don’t care about.
That Boras photo is terrifying
With how close Harris and crew hold their cards, I have little reason to accept what any beat reporter says.
So we’re just going to let Skubal walk for nothing is what i’m hearing
I think they trade him, don’t take this as gospel, come on.
Last I checked it was December 10th. Lots of off-season to go. Let’s not panic quite yet!
Heres why the Dodgers rumor is false. If you were them, why would you give up Freeland and half your farm for a guy you can just sign a blank check to next year? Also, if they (Dodgers) did indeed make that sort of offer. Tigers should take that deal in a heartbeat.
I mentioned it on the megathread but I think it’s worth repeating. It’s insane the Tigers are putting themselves in purgatory for no good reason. To sit there and go, “well, we’re going to roll with who we had last year and not do anything about Tarik Skubal neither build around him or get rid of him” is bananas. Self-sabotage weirdo shit.
Scott Harris needs to fucking GO. Clown ass mf
What if a team that won’t be able to compete with the Dodgers or Mets in a cash bidding war in the 2026/7 off-season but is going all in on the season to come (Orioles?) is willing to make a fair trade offer in exchange for having Skubal for just one, possibly franchise-changing year?
I don’t think that’s out of the question, and I’d rather have the front office capitalize on such a trade now than watch them make a few underwhelming tweaks this off-season and pray to the baseball gods for a magical October 2026.
Trade him now, or make some at least “whelming” moves now to improve the roster and make Detroit true (vs. wishful thinking) 2026 WS contenders.
Go Tigers!
Tigers aren’t serious about winning a WS. Feels like our FO is content with getting in the dance and seeing what happens from there. Loser mindsets running this org, banking on players who have never sniffed MLB level.
Worst thing to happen was that SF team Harris was apart of guys all having career years and winning 105+ games for no reason. Makes him think he can just continue doing that.
