[Cowley] The Minnesota Timberwolves have called the Chicago Bulls about Coby White. Minnesota is reportedly not looking to wait until the February trade deadline to complete a deal for a point guard.

  1. Coby’s been a popular name for a while. At $13M, don’t need to give up many assets

  2. Apparently the front office is on Reddit. I feel like everyone here’s been clamoring to make a move for Coby White forever

  3. Coby White is not a PG. he may be PG sized but he’s a two. Which is why he’s best years in the league has been next to Josh Giddey. We need Anthony Black or Jalen Suggs.

  4. Honestly he’s good. Obviously not 2nd or 3rd option good but he would easily be our 5th best player. The real coup is if Tim can make AKME trade Coby while we keep our main 7 intact. If he pulls it off, Donte, Naz and Clark off the bench is way better than whatever we have right now.

  5. Coby white isn’t even a point guard lol + he wants 30m+ contract no thanks go get me a real point guard

  6. Likely will be Randle who goes out.

    – DDV (11.99) makes less than White (12.88), so a straight up trade (+some 2nds) isnt possible.

    – Wolves wont trade Conley

    – Bulls have little need for a guard, they already have too many, but they need scoring help at Forward.

    – Wolves cant do a 3 for 1, so something like Dillingham, TJ, Miller is out

    – If they trade for white Wolves will need to clear some Cap room to re sign him in the off season.

    – Wolves cant afford to trade DDV, one of 2.5 playable guards.

    – Wolves have no picks, so taking back a bad contract could be in Play to get the deal done (Williams, huerter, Collins)

    – a White + Vucevic for Randle + TJ could be a thing.

This means its likely Randle or Naz who goes out. Since Naz is on Ants Timeline I doubt its him.

A Wildcard would be Gobert if vucevic comes back too, but I dont see it and it wont happen.

  7. In on Coby. There’s not going to be a good pure pg option that’s available. Those players are valuable to their team or on an expensive contract. Adding another ball handler without shaking up the team too much is a win imo

  8. Hmm.

He’s been better recently, but that may be due to who he’s playing with.

I trust Tim Connelly usually, so this is probably a good idea, but I’m a little hesitant.

Coby struck me as a high confidence gunner when he came into the league. Anyone watch him more closely the last two season, how has his decision-making been lately?

  9. Finally a real sourced trade rumor. The Wolves have been after White for a while it seems.

  10. His scoring would be fun next to Ant but I’m not sure he’s really the true lead point guard type is he? Hes also one of the worst defenders in basketball.

I feel like the ideal PG for this team is a 3 and D true floor general PG. Maybe I’m wrong about Coby’s actual PG skills but to me he seems like more of a SG with good secondary playmaking chops.

  11. Would be a perfect trade from just about every angle.

    – Scorer
    – Ball handler
    – Distributor
    – Good positional size
    – Age (matches core timeline)
    – Affordable without giving up a ton

  12. Watch it be naz and rob for jalen smith and white , that could be a crazy needle mover

  13. I could see this happening. Then a separate trade for a serviceable big to spell Rudy. I’d be down.

  14. Coby White and Naz Reid plus Clark is a ridiculous bench. Wolves won’t be as deep as other top teams but it won’t matter in playoffs. Conley+Dilly+TSJ+2nds for White and Jevon Carter sounds like a reasonable offer for both sides

  15. When’s the last time you heard about a trade from TC and then *that* player was acquired. Something sneaky is coming I feel like…

  16. Julius for White and Patrick Williams or Vooch. Not appealing to me. How about Rudy and Donte for Allen and Garland

  17. As a bulls fan I gotta warn you…he’s a good player but his bball iq is terrible if that’s something you are looking for.

  18. Skeptical of something getting done before the trade deadline, especially with the Bulls front office. How many trades actually happen in December? If I remember Dennis Schroeder was the only one last year.

  19. White is interesting, he brings a necessary scoring punch. But also not sure if his defending/playmaking abilities are enough to make what would have to be traded + extending be worthwhile.

All depends on what we have to trade I suppose.

  20. Unless it’s for old Conley or donte and dillingham only. He isn’t help getting past okc. Should be trying for giannis or nothing.
