I didn't see an article on this although a few articles today, one from Ken Rosenthal and from Evan Petzold suggested that Kim would be a good signing for Tigers.

He talks about it in the 34:25 mark and suggests why he would be a good signing.

  1. With infield prospects at the doorstep and Torres back, this doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. There are much bigger needs on the team than another middle infielder. However, I have to trust that Scott knows stuff that I don’t.

  2. If they did not have Javy, I would be in favor 100%. I would probably rather have Kim, but I wouldn’t want to roster both of them. If they’re going to have 2 shortstops, I’d rather one be a lefty because Javy’s splits are huge. Luckily we have three left-handed shortstops already.

  3. Kim had a 700+ OPS in the last 3 seasons where he got regular ABs.

As of 2024 his SS defense was still pretty good. His numbers were poor last year in limited chances.

A 700 OPS SS with + defense is valuable.
