Haley Alonso thanks Mets fans for loving Pete

  1. as a bronx guy it’s always been very obvious that he loved ny and mets fans loved him. sorry for your loss

  2. I wish Pete and his family nothing but the best. I’ll be rooting for him, even if I wish he retired a Met…

  3. I’m most confused how the Mets Organization didn’t factor how much of a blow to this is to FANS

Pete has been putting his all to this team since 2019, he’s a big reason a lot of fans are fans and keep up with the team

    Biggest loss since Wheeler imo

  4. I’m sorry but it’s an absolute shame that this is actually happening, and the fact that we didn’t even at least give a curtesy offer to Alonso is embarrassing for this organization. We drafted this guy, developed him, he became a fan favorite and a heart and soul type of player who is one of the best offensive players in Mets history, and was/is going to go down as one of the most iconic Mets ever with a number of great moments. To toss him aside how the front office did and act like it’s no big deal while essentially ignoring him ever since he became a free agent is a slap in the face to both Alonso and the fanbase. I really don’t care what the possible concerns are with him, this was one of the very rare times where you just had to spend what could possibly be stupid money, especially when we have the richest owner in the league. Cohen’s money was literally meant to avoid this exact situation. There’s no doubt in my mind that, if David Wright were a free agent today instead of 2013, Stearns would have let him walk simply because he was 31 years old.

  5. I wonder what was the Mets offer, but even at my level being a normal person I would definitely take a pay cut to still be living in NYC instead of having to move to Baltimore

  6. > Thank you for loving Pete.

Man, I heard a similar line for a character’s goodbye in One Piece that got so many people emotional, including me, and hearing that line again for Pete’s goodbye is making me even more emotional. Wishing him the best.

  7. Bad, bad decision by the Mets.  Sterns should put down the laptop and algorithms and listen to the future boos coming his way

  8. Well now I’m tearing up again. This one hurts man. I never pictured Pete wearing another jersey.

  9. Dumb move.

You told Pete to prove it and earn it. He did. You didn’t even look his way. That’s how you treat your franchise hero of 2024?

Horrible handling of this off season. You can have all the brains and statistics you want. Whatever successful business philosophy – you still need to be good with people. The Mets clearly have lost that perception this offseason.

Edit: even if you remove all emotions. I’m not sure where we’re supposed to replace 30-40 hrs 90-100+ RBI’s a season over the next 5 years either so it’s just a stupid move overall.

  10. Fuck anyone who only talks about numbers. Pete was one of the reasons I loved this team and watched many games. Favorite player since wright. Letting your home grown franchise HR leader walk over FIVE years is fucking insane. He wasn’t asking for 8-10. It wasn’t some crazy contract. I want to watch my Mets play together and win. But I can’t wait to watch players I don’t even care about play like shit next season. We are so fucking back in the wilpon years

  11. This is a really touching and heartfelt post. Much appreciated. My heart breaks especially for the young fans. Just awful. We are feeling serious grief. Aaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!!

  12. I seriously haven’t been this sad about sports in a really long time, I seriously don’t think Stearns can do anything to make me like him ever again. Send him back to the Brewers, fuck that guy.

  13. this all started when they let deGrom walk despite having cohen’s money and alleged plan. Not locking in a top level fan favorite player like that and then having the money to finally give him some offense, even w his injuries but most top pitchers are injury prone, and come to find he’s still pitching sub 3.0 era full seasons and can be made into a reliever or a 6 man rotation. Instead they still picked up later years of discarded subpar pitchers.

I don’t buy that ‘d*egrom would rather be in texas, he’s a rural guy*’. During the season they’re on the road all over the country anyway. In the off season they can live wherever they want in the world. They just make excuses like that because they’re not gonna name all the bad things about the team otherwise teams are afraid to sign players like that as if they’re gonna rat out and expose the front office.

Playing for the Mets, if you don’t prefer the penthouse NYC vibe, you can have you and/or your family stay in some rural mansion on long island w a boat and salt water access, and it’s warm season months can’t complain about the cold or anything.

  14. At this point I don’t even know if I want Stearns prove us wrong or fuckin fail and get fired😵‍💫

  15. I’m not going to be as into the Mets this year for sure. I’ll always be a Mets fan and if people here think I’m fake or something that’s fine. Cohen begged us to show up, we did, then they let the biggest Mets go. The homegrown slugger, the electric closer, the homegrown always smiling lefty bat. Pete, Diaz, and Nimmo were the Mets. They can’t be replaced but I can be so maybe I’ll see you guys at Citi in a couple years. Hope Stearns has a good excuse when Citi averages 23,000 fans a game next year.
