Kliff Kingsbury: “Scoring zero points shouldn’t happen in the NFL”
Kliff Kingsbury talked to the media before Thursday’s practice. He was asked about Jayden Daniels’ development this season, and how it has been affected by his injuries, and injuries to other starters on offense.
The team hasn’t been able to get into a rhythm due to the amount of injuries not allowing consistency in practice and games.
He called this a unique year, as the team tried to play to their strengths from last season, but they were limited by several factors.
Kliff Kingsbury regrets a lot of things about the Commanders’ 31-0 loss to the Vikings last week. “Scoring zero points shouldn’t happen in the NFL”.
There were questions about his play calling on
Washington’s opening drive. They got the ball to the two-yard line, but only ran it on 1st down.
They threw the ball from shotgun three times and turned the ball over on downs after Deebo Samuel failed to secure a pass in the back of the end zone.
“There’s 30 plays in that game I wish I’d called something differently. … There weren’t a lot of great play calls in that game. And like I said, that’s on me and I’ve got to get better.”
Zach Ertz suffered a torn ACL when he went up for a pass, but was taken out at the knee and flipped. Ben Sinnott and Colson Yankoff will need to step up for the final four games in his absence, and Kingsbury thinks they’re prepared for the challenge.
“With a guy like Zach, you don’t take him off the field in critical situations. So they’re going to get their opportunity in some of those situations, and I’m sure they’re up to the challenge.”
Watching them throw the ball 4x from inside the 5 yard line gave me serious EB PTSD
We proved the haters wrong 😎
Seems like all good answers but here’s an idea – how about the offense plays well in a game this year?
I know JD has been out a lot, but last year we also seemed far more aggressive on offense. Google is telling me we went for it on 4th down 23 times and made it 20 times. That’s a crazy 87 percent. It just seems like we’re content being timid this year.
Maybe, I don’t know……
#RUN THE FUCKING BALL!!!
His offense has a limited shelf-life. It’s like a derivative of base Algebra, tough for younger students to understand in the beginning of the school year but by the end of the semester, they’ve figured it all out. We need a pro-style offense, with playaction and under center play. Why are Caleb Williams and Drake Maye calling plays under center, not JD?
I moved to the DMV from Arizona, so the Cardinals are my first team. This Commanders season is so typical of the problems we always faced when Kliff was our HC. He has some interesting plays and runs a unique offense… and then eventually people figure it out and he is just terrible at adjusting in a way that keeps his team a step ahead of defenses season after season.
It’s funny. He talks about protecting the quarterback. We literally have one of the better running games in the league, and you refuse to use it, which, in turn, would protect your quarterback.
But it did tho…
I’m not out on Kingsbury like a lot of people are. He proved last year he’s a good coach given the talent level on offense. They were unstoppable. It’s just been a rough year all around.
Bro is checked out
Being out of rhythm can’t be an excuse, if rhythm is a requirement you’re screwed. Rhythm can be lost by a shit ref call or amazing defensive play. Offense and defense should be strategized and surgical
Gotta take some accountability here, Crod dominated the first half and never saw a carry again, they abandoned the run game altogether
His comments are insulting to the fan base after 13 games played this year.
These quotes bother me, like to the point where I want to strangle Kliff
I like accountability, even if it isnt flashy.
Totally done with him. Last week was a bridge too far. And he’s done this crap too many times. No trust in him whatsoever.
How much of this is on our useless defense? The D that gives out 12 yard pass plays like it’s candy?
They put us behind in the score so quickly that the offense has to pass to get yards quickly.
I hate that Ertz got hurt, but truthfully it’s time to really find out what we have in Sinnott
I’m curious what Bill will be in the future.
“Particularly when we got behind”? You mean right after kickoff?
Oh coach is saying exactly the same thing half the sub was down voting me about regarding our offense having zero rhythm
