So sick. We need something like this but more recent. I wasn’t even born yet
My wife and I were there in upper view. No security no tickets, just chaos.
I remember watching that SB like it was yesterday, I watched it with a bunch of Niner fans, it’s was agony.
Hey I’m in this video! Top level to right of scoreboard, first row about 5 seats from the corner
I remember getting made fun of in elementary school after we lost that Super Bowl 😭
I remember going to this! So sick! I was 7. It was so cold haha. What a flashback!
I was there. Was in 8th grade at the time. The whole stadium was literally shaking.
Didn’t Buffalo have like 5 of these but never won?
2025*
I was there. Got there early and found out which gate would be opening first from a radio news story while I was on my way. I was waiting with maybe 10 people at first then it turned into a gigantic crowd. Once I got in, I raced to the field seats at the 50yd line. I sat smack at the 50yd line front row seats on the visitors side since it was closest to where I entered. . I was dressed in a new chargers polo and khakis. (This comes to play in a sec). While sitting there I noticed there was ZERO security or police. I waited maybe 30 min or more as the stadium started filling up. I decided to jump the railing and try to act cool and grab a tiny piece of end zone sod as a memorable souvenir. I did a quick hop over the railing and walked along the side to the end zone. At this time about 100 dudes in red jackets started descending from what looked like the Plaza level on the south end and started dispersing themselves throughout the stadium. Shortly thereafter I saw several dozen SDPD officers also dispersing themselves across the stadium. As this happened I started to yank a piece of the sod from the end zone and I hear a guy hollering in my direction. I think he assumed I worked there (remember the khakis and polo shirt?). Anyhow I helped him unload this huge plastic thing from his cart. I helped him spread it out and across grass near this large door he had just driven his Cushman through. He plugged in a couple huge fans and that thing became the tunnel they all walked through. I stayed on the field the entire time. First a CHP vehicle with Stan Humphrey came in from the door on the south side of the field. Then more CHP vehicles with VIPS and eventually the team busses all drove onto the field at ‘Murph. A bunch of folks started handing out cigars like crazy so I grabbed one and just walked around the entire time. I got to shake hands with so many players, coaches and VIP’s that night. Everyone was ready to celebrate our San Diego Chargers! I stood next to the mayor and city counsel when the players were disembarking the busses. I was about 40 feet away from the podium while the players and coaches were talking to the crowd of what I have to assume was close to 100k people crammed into the stadium. Not a seat was empty and people were sitting in aisles and standing along the rails everywhere. It was amazing. It wasn’t all good because someone broke into my car by breaking a window and stole my Kellen Winslow jersey. Still though, it was an amazing night for the city/county but a tiny bit extra special for me.
The glory days
🥲
It definitely was special. Since 1985 you had Dan Marino, John Elway, Jim Kelly in the AFC. The 1994 Chargers were definitely a Cinderella team.
Funny story the next season in the AFCC game Jim Harbaugh was one drop away from the Superbowl.
I didn’t make it because I was still in Pittsburgh. The Steelers were so arrogant they had pre-printed thousands of Super Bowl Merch and sales center like a Christmas Tree lot was a ghost town, right across the street from our Hotel. After the game we drove around downtown Pittsburgh honking the horn, windows rolled down screaming at anybody walking by. We went to a restaurant and other than the staff we were the only people there. The entire city was in SHOCK.
Then I went down to Miami and got humbled. Great seats, fun times, but game was tough.
