Keith Hernandez reacts to Pete Alonso signing with the Orioles

We are now joined by S, NY Mets
analyst, Keith Hernandez and Keith. Anyone who watches the
Mets on SNY knows how big a fan of Pete. Alonso you are. And
when we spoke to you, after Brandon Nimmo was traded, you
thought it should be a priority to keep Pete. So what was your
reaction when you heard? He was going to Baltimore? Well, I was surprised, I guess
the my feeling is that the Mets
didn’t want to give him a the five years, and Baltimore, certainly did.
And I’m sure there was other teams that were willing to do
it. You know, it’s sad to see Pete
Go. I mean, I’ve always loved Pete because Pete cared he came every day, but never got
hurt and he really played to win. And he’s, you know, his numbers,
back up, his performance and But it looks like the Mets are right now. Pretty much cleaning house. Don’t you think Emmett? Yeah, it certainly looks
that way that they’re shaking up the core after last
year. Do you think that was the right move to sort of break
up this core that has been here for so long with the Mets? Well, it’s a tough decision for David, you’ve really let go
three of your probably most popular players and a team that had a very Disappointing season and they’ve
been together together a very long time. So it’s
obviously obvious that they are going in a New Direction. And
the direction is, as you said, it’s going to be defense and also pitching. So, you know, I always look to
the 69 Mets when you have a team that won a World
Championship with great
pitching, and didn’t have a great offense, so
to speak, not by Any stretch of the imagination.
So it’s it’s just a whole, I mean
everybody. I’ve been watching the interviews, everybody’s kind
of speechless, I’m a little bit speechless. This
is, this is very explosive. This is
in the years that I’ve been with the Mets. I have not seen this kind of moving in a New Direction, I
guess. And it’s definite. It is profound. I’ve no doubt about
it. Explosive and profound of the right words to use. And
lastly, Keith you played first base for the For seven years, you had a
bird’s-eye view for Alonzo, seven year, tenure in Queens. So
there’s probably no better person to ask what Pete alonso’s
met Legacy is 0 for me, he’s the all-time
home. Run guy, then met history. He got that. I’m glad
for Pete. I do think that, you know, but
remember one thing, Pete always played every day and he never
got hurt. And I think that is something that will be
overlooked because everybody wants to look at the numbers and
the home runs. But he played every day and that’s important and ever
had to come to the ballpark and worry about whether you’re going to see Pete
in the lineup are not and that’s important to me. So to
me, that’s one of the legacies he leaves behind but certainly
he’s the all-time home run, leader in bed history
and he’s got some years left. And we’ll see how many hits in
Baltimore at soap. Nice park for him to go to. It’s a smaller
Park. For him to hit home runs, no doubt about that and it
should be some atmosphere at Citi Field on September 14th
when the Mets host the Orioles and Keith after a profound
explosive offseason, that’s going to be more prep work for
you. This could be a whole new roster when you get to spring training, he’s absolutely right. It’s a
lot more work. I mean, if this is going to be a lot of, I mean
it’s only beginning. There’s going to be new faces more
common. There’s more coming, this winter that they can’t go north with
well with this the setup, right? Now
the roster, there’s going to be a big move. There’s going to be
some new people here.

  1. It makes zero sense. The soto deal was absolutely ridiculous, then they let pete go for a measly 155? Wtf is that? How do you sleep on diaz? How do you trade nimmo?

  2. We Mets fans need to revolt !! What are we waiting for….Lindor to be traded next ? Don't show up to the games, that will teach the front office who pays their salaries !

  3. Keith —- "Pete's numbers backed up his story" – that's all that needs to be said right there… end of STORY anything else that was said about Pete was all nonsense – I'm sick of this organization it's always the same old approach 2 steps forward 5 steps backwards if anybody believes that they are going to have a better season next year they are deluted – this is just absolutely absurd what is happening

  4. I am still beyond heartbroken I am angry. I’ve been a lifelong Met since the early 60- 70s.

Outside the Jack in Robinson rotunda I have a family brick that we donated. I’d like to come and take it out of there.

I have never felt such hatred towards the Mets organization in all the years that I’ve been with them.

Regardless, if they win or lose, I lived and died with the Mets, but this past year is something I will never forgive or get past . I’ll blame blame on Sterns. He is completely disconnected from his fans and has made a tremendous amount of enemies starting with bringing on Soto was the beginning of the end of the Mets,

Soto is a lazy third fourth rate outfielder that brought no heart to the game ,

nothing but a head case , an. attitude that’s spread like a toxic cancer through the rest of the players in the organization.

The only thing good to be said about the Mets are a couple of their young pictures. There’s nothing left to be a fan about and you can bet that my family and my friends and all of us feel truly sorry to see it come to this

To have grown up in the Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens

    We are done

  5. Aside from his stats, Pete is a guy with huge heart. Certainly a leader and exciting to watch. Came every day to play superb baseball without ego and bravado. You can tell that last year he focused more on making contact and not just trying to cream the ball every time he came to the plate. His number is certainly back up this premise.

I for one started going to ball games again because I loved watching Lindor and ALONSO at the plate. I probably will not be buying tickets this year….

  6. Why are all met fans mad? They made the playoffs 4 times in 10 yrs. Stop paying 25. 35 mill a year to NOT MAKE PLAYOFFS . Plus they are not loyal. They go where the money is.
