Let’s start a GoFundMe to pay off Castellanos’ contract
/s just a joke
Retain his salary it’s not my money idc
Releasing him is always an option
They are going to have to release him outright. It’s fine.
I love Castellanos
Some poverty team will do it at the cost of a mid prospect I’m confident. Moneys on Miami
I thought this article would be about Castellanos, but the article seems to call him a “slugger”.
So who is this actually about?
Not that teams would have been lining up to trade for him regardless, but Dave played his hand too early on this by immediately saying he wouldn’t be here next year.
No real incentive for other teams to trade assets for him when they know he’s as good as gone.
Slugger?
He gets $20M next season. Phils could try to trade him and eat half of it. Sort of middle ground from what a lot of you are saying.
It’s just gonna be hard to find someone willing to take on really any percentage of his salary. He’s that bad. I totally get shopping him but if there’s 0 interest you gotta just release him. Gotta move on.
This is all because he moved into fuckin Ben Simmons house man. He’s cursed.
Am I the only Phillies fan that doesn’t hate Castellanos?
Nick plus Bohm and the GOAT cash considerations to Miami for Connor Norby.
Eat the money and leave the guy with a little bit of dignity. Other players might respect it
Hard to think someone wouldn’t want him at 10m a year.
Thats kinda the going rate for average to below average FA outfield bats for 1 year. (at least last year)
Honestly, they should hold onto him a little while until they make their winter roster moves and we see what the outfield without him will look like. … Someone will certainly take him for $3M to be a DH/part-time OF. ….. They should probably though set a date about 30 days before spring training at which point they’ll release him if there’s no trade, so he can find a team.
Someone will give them 1-2 mil to jump the line once more FA’s sign. Lottery ticket hope for a bounceback.
Jim Bowden is a clown.
Main reason I want him gone at this point is I think it’s fucking hilarious that (as of right now) his last act as a phillie was somehow getting a base hit by swinging at a low and away breaking ball that was completely out of the zone. Farewell sweet, dense Prince.
He’ll get traded and go on an absolute tear out of spite lol watch.
The Phillies have made no secret that they eagerly wanted to try to trade Castellanos. That said, I just think it’s a bit unfortunate, unfair and somewhat classless that it’s being reported this way and spun in this fashion.
I’m far from a regular poster here, so I really have very little ground to stand on in this, but…
Should banning [SI.com](http://SI.com) links be on the table because it is a bullshit AI aggregator site that contributes literally nothing new or an informative ever?
There’s no way he’s on the team next year, it’s just a matter of finding the right $ balance.
Cutting him outright costs $20m. So how valuable is he to another team, and how much contract $s do we absorb in a trade?
I’m sure in trade talks we’re starting with a positioning of eating as few $s as possible to see if there are bites. But we have no leverage, everyone knows this, and he’s not good. So the Phils are going to extend feelers out where we take more $s than before to see if there are bites. Etc etc. There is a scenario where no one wants him in any scenario, we just cut him, and that’s fine.
All to say he won’t be on the team next year but I also don’t expect it will be resolved quickly. The Phils going to play all the angles to see if they don’t have to eat $20m, as they should.
Are you guys taking Bets yet on which Phillies player are you gonna bitch about the entirety of next season?
Might as well keep shilling him. Any money saved is a plus.
His contract year is coming. He’s gonna do what he did in Cincinnati and hit .300/35/110 this year, and someone will overpay for a DH.
I’ll take him if they retain 100% of his salary. I could use an assistant.
Nick Castellanos cannot be sent to the minor leagues without his consent because he is a veteran player with more than five years of Major League service time and has no remaining minor league options.
This is what the front office gets for telling the world if we don’t trade him we’ll cut him anyways and eat the salary. Even IF most other front offices already assumed that would be the case, announcing it publically and removing any doubt of it was just dumb
