Did anyone else thought he got fired when I first saw this lol
Talk about a confusing headline
You’re right, they’re boring and not fun to watch because of Hiller’s style. It’s not “defense first;” it’s “defense only” and that doesn’t games or produce a fun product.
Terry Murray coached a similar style. It worked for that version of the Kings for a while because it taught them how to be in every game before Sutter came in and taught them how to synthesize offense and defense and win.
Frankly, this roster isn’t nearly as good as those Murray and Sutter had but shouldn’t have lost 4 playoff series in a row to Edmonton. Last year especially, they could have won. I didn’t see this roster as playoff bound before the season and I’m still questioning it. With a different coach, I think they’d be a lock.
Just waiting til we get Deboer
Blown leads are his legacy. They brought him back after the worst coached playoff series I’ve ever seen. It will continue to be this way because that’s what Jim Hiller teams do.

It’s Luc. Hiller could be replaced with any coach and it wouldn’t matter because Lucky Luc is handcuffing him further with bone headed strategies that only lead to boring hockey. He should’ve been tossed with Blake.
Way too many blown leads. Gives me playoffs flashbacks
I normally am turned off when I see typo’s and run on sentences in what seems to be a professional article. It just makes the whole thing feel less credible. That being said, I read the whole thing and agree 100%. I couldn’t have put my thoughts into words the way the writer did in this article. The numbers help. I don’t hate Hiller as a person or anything, and I believe he could be successful one day. He needs time as an assistant to someone who really knows what they are doing, and why they are doing it. It seems like Hiller identifies the problems too late, and by the time he “fixes” them, other teams have already gone another step further. He was essentially trained for the last few years by Mclellan, who managed to lose a series against us in 2014 in which he was up 3-0 (with a presidents trophy team). There’s something wrong with that. Hiller needs to break certain habits, and I don’t think that will happen as a head coach.
On a side note, I think people are having hot streaks because of the small moments Hiller is excelling. He just can’t adjust fast enough to be an NHL head coach right now. If we can get a coach in that REALLY has a grip on how to adjust during and after games, the hot streaks will become full season wonders. Kempe, Fiala, Byfield, etc. are being held back. Yes, their hot streaks are keeping us up in the standings, but those players should be having point a game seasons by now, and I don’t think it’s entirely their fault that they aren’t.
Arguments for firing Jim Hiller would be a better title for reader experience. From an SEO and eye catching standpoint, this title slaps 😉
