So the Wild give up their first round picks from 2020, 2022 and 2024 plus a future 1st.
Good return for Van, tbh.
Never really made sense as a fit. I’m pretty sure we were leaked as a way to motivate others to get the deal upped because we have so many studs and a history of big trades. I’d rather find a way to move Sandin and Miro and a pick for an impact forward.
My pipe dream is the Leafs blow it up and we can fleece them for Matthews.

Yeah, even if he’s a fantastic player, the fit would be weird here.
If the Caps could’ve gotten him with a guarantee that he’d stay long term (e.g. sign and trade) I’d be fine with giving that kind of haul. With that being said, there is no way to find out if he stays beyond his current contract, especially given the whole deal with wanting to play with his brothers in NJ, so I am happy we are keeping our prospect pool as it is
Caps fans will be divided on this, but I think we’ll appreciate having our prospects present down the line. Defense isn’t what we need right now.
I wouldn’t have been upset if we’d gotten him, but I think this is for the best.

There was almost certainly a bidding war today between 3 teams (Caps, Wild and Red Wings). I don’t think the Devils had the capital to make a trade happen.
Friedge tweeted earlier around 10AM EST that today was shaping up to be a big day, which tells me he knew that the Canucks were going to make a decision by the end of their business day (it’s just past 5pm PST). He tweeted the trade at 4:34PM PST.

Hopefully Hutson is joining us in April and we can have our poor man’s Quinn Hughes for the playoffs.
I hope anyone here that wanted to trade Hutson keeps their heads down when he’s lighting the league up for us

Holy shit man. Imagine being Kaprizov and seeing the team you just re-signed with send off that massive haul for a 1.5 year rental. Like, come on, he’s definitely going to take a sweetheart deal to play in Jersey when he’s available. I get he’s very elite but man they gave up too much.
This wouldn’t have moved the needle, we are not a cup winning team without or with him. We are just in the very good role. Blah blah “4th in the league idiot!”. Game last night had no emotion no nothing, we went on a heater and now chilling. Glad we kept our guys and didn’t win.

So, Minnesota has decided that Wallstedt is the next Ken Dryden, and all their wins will be 2-1 from now on.
The Caps could have beaten this offer in terms of individual talent so I’m thinking that they marked Hutson as untouchable.
Unpopular opinion, but I would’ve did it. Caps almost never make it out of the second round because we needed another gamechanger besides Ovi. Hughes is that.
I’m OK with it. I get to attached to our players for this kinda stuff lol I know, I know, it’s business, but I’m rather proud of our home grown successes.
Well, guess we can start chasing rumors about Kyle Connor or Tage Thompson now.
If he was a right-D I would have been willing to give up the farm for him, but he isn’t so I’m glad we didn’t bite.
I’m glad we didn’t pull the trigger. Top 6 help is what we need. Maybe it comes from within. Maybe a trade later. Our defense isn’t a glaring problem

Ill get hate for saying protas, but protas doesn’t look as good this year. He seems a lot slower. Not sure if hes dealing with an injury but he just doesn’t look like he did last year lol
Scuttlebutt was Leonard trade. Foolish. No disrespect to the pedigree of Hughes, but Leonard is a keeper IMO. Boston college captain, 7th overall, world junior MVP. Not to mention NHL level puck awareness. Win for Caps.
