I CAN’T BELIEVE THE MINNESOTA WILD JUST DID THIS.
Did he really have to go to the central division? Ladies and gentlemen, we are here to talk about the Quinn Hughes trade and not coming out of nowhere, but coming out of nowhere to the Minnesota Wild. After all the conversation over the last couple of weeks, the Canucks captain has gotten dealt to Minnesota of all places, which shocks me. We were all here talking about Detroit as an option, him going to his brothers in New Jersey, but here come the wild to swoop Quinn Hughes from under his feet. So, let’s talk about the trade details themselves. what the Canucks got back in the deal and how the Wild got this deal underway in the first place. So, make sure you guys watch till the end for my full thoughts on the deal and hit that subscribe button if you’re new for more trade content just like this as we have gotten a crazy trade season started here. It’s really unfortunate because today was supposed to be the day that I would release the Quinn Hughes mock trades video where I looked at your mock trades for Quinn, but of course, we saw the Oilers making a multitude of trades earlier this morning. That delayed the video and now uh the video might be delayed permanently. But here we have the trade details themselves pretty much instantly, which we’d love to see with the Wild getting Quinn Hughes, which is still extremely weird to say. But the Conucks also get a 2026 first round pick. Marco Rossi, Zeb Buum, and Liam Ogran. And my goodness gracious, this was kind of around the range of value that we saw the Canucks getting back. a firstrounder, a young center prospect, also a young defensive prospect, and Liam Ogrren, too. This is actually pretty fascinating. I don’t even know if I expected the Conucks to get this much back in the deal, but I think they did really well here. The thing is though, when you trade a Quinn Hughes type of player, you’re never really going to win that deal, but considering the position the Conucks were in, I think they did quite well here. Obviously, the common trade proposal was to the Red Wings for players like Marco Casper, potentially an Axi Pelica, a first round pick on top of that. That’s what we were kind of expecting for New Jersey, something similar like a Dawson Mercer first round pick, and potentially a Simone Mets. But Minnesota comes here with a very interesting offer because they have a center here who is not just NHL ready, but it’s very established himself as somebody that has kind of been up and down in terms of his stock in Minnesota. Vancouver needed a true center. Marco Rossi can be that Z Buum, you guys know how much of a fan I have of him and what he’s capable of offensively with the puck on a stick on the power play. Has some mass potential that’s still kind of ironing things out similar to what ASP is doing in Detroit this season. And then you get Liam Ogran on top of that. And I will say I’m kind of shocked Vancouver didn’t try to go for a more NHL ready player here. But I’m pretty pleasantly surprised that Ogrren was somebody they picked up because I mean they could have gotten themselves in a bad hole going for NHL ready talent, but they did themselves quite a favor here going pretty long term with this package. Now I am still processing this quite a bit, but let’s talk about Minnesota’s side here getting Quinn Hughes out of nowhere. I mean, we were speculating that Minnesota could be a fit, but it’s kind of crazy to see them as the actual trade partner here. But hey, Minnesota trying to make some big money moves. I’m all for it. Even as a Stars fan, that’s man, that central division defensively is absolutely insane. Why couldn’t we have gone to the East? Oh man. But just in terms of what Minnesota could use a bit more of, this is practically perfect. So much juice, so much creativity, so much puck possession from the blue line. Quinn Hughes is going to really change everything for that team. I mean they go from a team that had pretty much one superstar but some great talent around it in Capriob. You have some great players like Matt Baldi, Zurilla when he is healthy. You know players like Yol Ericen are very consistent in the way they play but outside of that there wasn’t a lot of pure pop and especially on the defensive end where a player like a Brock Faber absolutely has his moments but still is kind of finding and figuring out his game. Quinn Hughes though there’s nothing really to figure out even though he’s been a bit inconsistent this season. I think that’s mostly attributed to him just being weighed down by the negativity surrounding Vancouver year after year. But when Quinn Hughes is fully confident in playing at his best level, you could see what he was capable of just a couple of seasons ago and even a year ago. Well over a point per game as a offensive defenseman. And I think especially what we’ve seen compared to his earlier seasons, a much more consistent defensive game, much more physical presence. Even though it’s never going to be perfect by any means, he more than makes up for it. And that average defensive level is perfectly fine considering what he is capable of with a puck on a stick. I I mean considering the weapons Minnesota has, especially in the top end, that power play is going to be insane. But just looking at Minnesota’s defense and what they could use a bit more of with that puck moving, I mean they have the defensive acumen there and players like Yonas Brody when they are healthy, but that type of just true needle mover is something they don’t quite have. Zeb, I think could eventually become that on the offensive side, but he’s not quite there yet. still going through some growing pain, still finding himself. So, the fact they can basically just replace Buum on that left side of the defense, have somebody with a Faber or even a Spersion, who the heck cares? You’re adding Quinn Hughes, you can care about the fit later, but it’s a pretty good fit still here. Just looking at the first power play unit where they go from their top defenseman and Brock Favor to now Quinn Hughes. And no disrespect to Brock Favor, but I think Quinn Hughes is a pretty decent upgrade when it comes to racking up points, connecting on plays, making sure he’s stable in the blue line. Everything is pretty much there. And now that he’s going to have some players like Baldi and Carroll Capri soft to cook, we have Jeez Louise, man. Oh, that’s going to be so good. The thing is too for the Wild in this deal, they don’t give up anybody that I think will make a substantial difference or will be a huge net negative to not have on the team. Marco Rossi is the biggest one, at least as of now. But even he hasn’t had the greatest season up to this point. Still has played well, 13 points through 17 games, but has been battling some injuries, some inconsistencies in the NHL this year. I still think he could be a very quality complimentary second line center in the NHL though and last year 60 points 82 games was able to prove that in Vancouver I think could do some really interesting things. He’s not going to get be given the most amount of great teammates on the wing, but it’ll be a big opportunity for him to prove himself again and hopefully get to a team that trusts him a bit more than Minnesota did. With how good a player like Dell Eurovv has been playing as of late with how good old Eric always is, I don’t think it’s a huge huge loss. Though I do think that center position for the Minnesota Wild wasn’t a spot I wanted to see get worse and it does in this deal though again you’re going to take Quinn Hughes over Margot Rossi. That’s an 100% bet which is a reason why you’d also trade ZUM. This was the main argument I made in in the potential of an ASP being involved in a Quinn Hughes trade is that even though I love Zoom and what he is capable of, if he becomes 75% of the prime Quinn Hughes that we have seen, that is a massive success story. So there is a big question mark over whether Buum would ever be up to that level. Even though I think he’ll do some really interesting things in Vancouver with that power play group. I think Buum could be a big driver of play. Again, Quinn Hughes is a non-negotiable. He is something that for Minnesota, especially at this stage when you have Capri Saw Baldi entering the prime of their careers. You need to strike while the irons is hot. And this is exactly what Minnesota did. Having a pretty interesting prospect pool. They’re leveraging that pretty well in this deal. Then you also have Liam Ogrren who is another first round pick, 19th overall by Minnesota back in 2022. Has kind of failed to find his footing in the NHL as of late, but still somebody that has had a solid age up to this point. I I think it’s just kind of trying to find that confidence and that’s the biggest thing with Ogrren that kind of has been up and down throughout his career. He’s somebody that has some pretty good intight skill, has some good speed and motion, especially on transition, having gonna be a valuable player. It’s just a matter of how many points he’s going to be able to put up. How responsible is he going to become? Because that’s I think the biggest thing that could separate him to being an AHL. But considering Vancouver’s options on the wing, I think the opportunity for Oberin is wide open. And within the Lecher Maki as well coming up, some interesting Swedish wings the Canucks are collecting here. Now, the big thing that I was questioning when this trade happened was if we would see an extension, but as Chris Johnson goes on to say, the Wild can’t extend Quinn Hughes until July 1st, but they got a great tool in their back pocket to get it done. saying they’ll be the only team who can sign him for eight years with a front-loaded structure including unlimited signing bonuses before the CBA rules change on September 15th. I personally have never been that pessimistic towards Quinn Hughes leaving whoever get he gets traded to and instantly going off to New Jersey, but it will be interesting to see here for Minnesota as they’ve had of course some pretty heavy conversations and negotiations in the past with of course Carell Capriov who’s been a bit of a stickler in the past in terms of the contract situation. Quid Hughes I mean does it get more than Capriov? That’ll be a pretty big question here. In general, I think Minnesota kind of makes their weaknesses a bit weaker. But in terms of the Quinn Hughes edition, I mean, even though I love players like Zebum and Marco Rossy and what they are at their best, Quinn Hughes is probably the second best defenseman in the NHL besides Kale Mar. And they’re going to be in the same division. Oh, if Queen Hughes gets resigned, they’re going to be in the same division for like the next decade. Oh boy. As you can tell, I’m still trying to process all of this. It is a landmark trading. Crazy one. But you know what? This is what we love to see, folks. We love to see NHL GMs go absolutely nutty. And we saw that here today. In terms of who I think wins this trade, first things first, hockey fans win this trade that we actually saw a landmark deal like this happening as fast as we did see it happen. I mean, I thought we would have maybe had to wait until the summer because that’s just how these things work in the end. But Vancouver is a team that is not afraid to make these trades happen as quick as humanly possible. And we are seeing it here today already. In terms of the trade grades, even though I think Vancouver did a bit better than I was expecting, still getting rid of Quinn Hughes is such a blow to that franchise, the best defenseman they’ve had, possibly the best player they’ve ever had. So, it is a shame that they have to let him go this early on into his Conucks tenure, but at the same time, the writing was kind of on the wall considering everything, the context, and of course, the leverage with both teams involved. I think for Minnesota, it’s exactly the type of crazy deal I would love to see them make. Really bolstering the top end of that defense. and quid use is a perfect perfect thing to do. So, so I think for Minnesota in general, I’m going to give them a B+ here. Maybe even maybe even a bit higher. I think they even though they give a lot of assets in this deal, still Quinn Hughes is an undeniable force. And especially if I’m a team like Minnesota that could use a bit more juice, he’s exactly the type of player I’ll trade for. So, you know what? We’re going to give Minnesota an A minus. And I’m going to give the Conucks a B+ as well. I think both these teams do real well here. Minnesota though, man. Coming out of nowhere to get Quinn Hughes. Just insane. But those are my thoughts on the Quinn Hughes trade to the Minnesota Wild. Hopefully you guys did enjoy. If you did, hit that like button. Hit that subscribe button notification bell. Of course, comment down below your thoughts on this Quinn Hughes trade. Which team do you think comes out on top, Minnesota or Vancouver? QUINN HUGHES IS ABOUT TO BE IN MY DIVISION FOR THE NEXT DECADE. I'm dead.
What are YOUR thoughts on the MASSIVEEEEE Quinn Hughes Trade? Did it surprise you? And which team do YOU think came out on top here? The Minnesota Wild OR the Vancouver Canucks? #GravGang
Great a bunch of unproven pieces and 2nd round pic basically 🖕🏼
Wild GOT to resign him or they got hosed
Welp, the Central just got even more scary. Ottawa plays against Minny tomorrow, so I’m not looking forward to the spanking they’re gonna receive from Minny 🥲
Im just hoping we can resign him AND show him why Minnesota is one of the best places to play so maybe he starts talking to his brothers about joining him here?
Is this the piece Minny needs to finally bring a league championship to Minnesota? Or does this just make the Central that much more of a meat grinder allowing pacific division teams to breeze through to the SCF?
Go Canucks Go
Tank for McKenna
Minnesota will flip Hughes for a better haul
I'm not sure of this, could the Devils just be biding their time and get him for free in what is it, a year and a half? Not sure about this cuz i haven't heard anything about this.
dude aint staying with Wild .Going to join his bro's
Yeah it’s f Israel 🇮🇱 on god hope the kid gets what’s coming to him
How the F does Yzerman not beat this trade , incompetence thats why , i knew it wouldn't take as much as EVERYONE said it will to get Hughes 😂 , only thing this does is set the market going forward , think about it 😂 it cost only this much to get a top 10 player
Game Changer!
Van city what u doing 😂😂
Minnesota just injected 100 points player. That is major win.
Minny got fleeced!
Can we see the mock trades anyways?
Fire 🔥 Sale is on
Knuckheads
But Wow good return
Rantanen situation 2.0 incoming ? 👀
Don't know why Minnesota traded Buium knowing Hughes most likely will leave in free agency
Marco Rossi is great!
Must suck to be traded from a competitor to a failure!
Who knows, maybe this turns the season around for the Canucks!?
I was realllly hoping he’d go to my Flyers , damn.
4 x 1st round player is a pretty good haul!
What a relief. I was beginning to think the Flyers were going go sell the whole team to get him.
Will the Wild never learn 😢 they love IR players
MN wins for now because they got the best player. Rossi and Buiim hurt to lose. If Hughes leaves, all bets are off.
Faber is way more reliable…
Damn it happened. Yeah there was talk about it but didn't expect it to happen this fast
The Canucks shocked me they fleece them so bad…Just Rosia and Zeev Bauim should of been enough but they get cap relief and a better pick than it looks…I would of tried to throw a future pick swap cause there cap is gonna be hit with one more dump trade…the goalie is dominate one day and just hesitated to play the next….I think Rosi are zee Bauium are such a mistake this makes them worst ……..I give 60/30 in Canucks favor…makes me wonder who they were bidding with!!!!!!!😮
Great Vid keep it up!
As a Canucks fan I’m devastated.
Outside of that, Minnesota should take a stab at Ryan O’Rielly, William Karlsson or Nick Schmaltz.
All Minnesota needs is one more superstar fwd hopefully a center
This was a weird trade that’s hard to grade. It’s a trade we won’t know who wins for two years. But currently seems like a lose-lose trade. Vancouver traded the best player in the deal and the team that trades the best player typically loses the deal. However, we all know Hughes wants to play with his brothers and likely walks in 18 months meaning the Wild gave up a top D prospect and solid 2C and a 1st for 18 months of a player that might not even make them cup contenders because of the depth they just lost. This could change if Rossi and/or Buium hit their ceilings in Vancouver and/or the Wild win the cup in the next 18 months and re-sign Hughes.
Real tough to be a Canucks fan I bet
Hopefully this can be a win win situation. Wild wins if they make a deep run. Canucks wins if two of the four players become starters at NHL level, and we suck enough this year for a high draft pick
The central division has the top 3 defensemen in the league now
Stars fan eh? What do you suppose the odds are you guys are up against Hughes and the wild in round one?
9:31 yeah he might be the best player Weber ever had. It’s either Hughes or Bure.
Everyone knows he's walking to the Devils as soon as he can, so I wouldn't worry too much Grav haha
As a Wild fan the only thing I don’t love about this trade is that we couldn’t dump Tarastinko on the nucks. He’s beyond washed and we’re playing him on PP1 😂😂😂
As a 32 year old Minnesota sports fan this is easily the biggest and best trade I’ve seen any of our teams make. I can’t think anything even close. We’re so used to getting fringe all star type guys near the end of their careers.
As a Wild fan I think it could be a win win. We got one of the best young stars in the game, but Dallas got three of our top young players and a first.
Rossi is good. He’s been playing great but a new setting might give him even more push to really break out. Ohgren has been a top prospect for us for years and has just recently started to play better. I’m really excited for him.
Buium is who will make or break this. He has the potential to be an ELITE defenseman. If he breaks out and is an all star top pairing player this could be a win for both teams as long as Hughes resigns with us.
God Bless he's not a Boston problem in the Atlantic now… oh, we play the Wild tomorrow? Fuck my life
Pronounced BOO-yum and I've never heard Kaprizov pronounced quite that way before. Anyway…
Watch Wild lose again in the first round and trade Hughes next season to the Devils
Marco Rossi 👍💪🔥
I wonder if billy g intends to flip him considering kap making 17 mill a season going to be hard to keep them both. Imo which doesn't mean much the wild still only has 2 good lines and they still aren't serious contenders.
