“I think it’s a freak accident.” | Jeff Blashill Postgame 12.12.25
You have an update on Connor? I don’t really. Um, uh, he won’t play tomorrow. Um, I won’t know more info tomorrow, so don’t ask me tomorrow. Um, some at some point, uh, through the weekend, I’ll I’ll I’ll know more. So, I’d probably have more info come Monday. Do you have any sense of short-term? I hate to I hate to say that. I hate to say that without knowing the information, you know. So, until we get the information, I just, you know, again, he’s he’s not going to play tomorrow. And when I know, I’ll know. I’ll let you know. How would you assess the game? Um, well, they they played way harder than us early, especially. Um, I just think we had some guys uh we just got to learn how competitive it is, you know, and and they had obviously had a tough night the night before and um they’re a real well coached team. I knew Monty was going to have them ready and they came out super ready and we came out to kind of just play hockey game too too much. I think too many guys. We weren’t as competitive as you need to be. Um, you know, it was uh physical probably early and uh we needed to come out with way more mental focus and uh um and not not every guy but too many guys and so it’s just part of the learning process here of how much of an everyday league it is. Looked like you were shuffling the lines quite a bit. Did you like kind of some of the things you found there? No, I mean not really like a little you know when you start shuffling lines a bunch you’re trying to spark something. I thought we had a little bit of spark in the second. And I think, you know, we definitely pushed in the third. Um, in the end, uh, you know, we’ll probably go back to, you know, I we’ll have to look at our lines tomorrow, obviously with Connor out. Um, what did you think of the play at the end? I, you know, I I’d have to watch it again. I I don’t, you know, I think he’s trying to shoot it forward. Uh, you know, I honestly I think it’s a freak accident, to be honest with you.
Head Coach Jeff Blashill provides an injury update on Connor Bedard and discusses lack of competitiveness after loss to Blues in St. Louis.

“Freak accident” is such BS
Freak accident no sound good.. positive prayers..
With all due respect, there was nothing "freak" or "accident" about it.
Wasn't an accident. Schenn never went for the puck, a deliberate check to the shoulder and NOBODY stood up for their best player! Anytime a great player gets hit no matter how clean, the team pounces and starts pounding away in his defense. Once again it wasn't even CLEAN!👿
Hawks are flat too often. Yes, I know young, learning, etc., etc., etc. Schenn is a dirty player and can't do much offensively, so he just skates around and hits players, 4th liner. Cross check to shoulder, quite obvious. Bedard was in a vulnerable position, so he took advantage. Disappointed the Hawks players didn't pound him but maybe nobody saw it.
It was a deliberate cross check . Dirty play.
A hockey play. It's not like he crossed checked him in the mouth.
Hawks and Blashill are wimps. They didn't stick up for Bedard. Blashill is the wrong person to lead this team. The same problems he had in Detroit can't make the team play hard and no physicality. This team has no leaders and won't fight for their teammates. There a frigging disgrace.
Dirty play. See blues player movement. Hes not playing puck at all. Hes not just cross checking, hes targeting a specific area, while trying to disguise and say oh it was an accident. Hes angling forward and up and to the left, into a calculated area on contact, in direct oposition as bedard rotates his right shoulder to left and down. 100 % of his force upward plus 100% of bedards downward force. Totaly intentional. Dear NHL you just lost millions in revenue due to allowing malicious target acts by third line players on 1st line players. Penalizing bedard for being choked from behind contributed and escalated situation.
Personally a little cross check is nothing outrageous it's pretty standard from time to time on the ice. My take on past few games, hawks haven't had it together like they've been playing. Seeing more of the silly turn overs dead play passes and more coasting creeping in their game again.
DIRTY DIRTY DIRTY
Blashill was the wrong hire. Making excuses for an opposing player who just put your best player out for months with a separated shoulder. What a d bag. Davidson will follow this loser out the door in another year. All of these so-called good young players are wimps no fight won't stick up for their teammates. What a disgrace. Blashill has the same problems he had in Detroit. Can't make the players play hard for 60 minutes and absolutely no physical play.
I don't really have a dog in this fight. In fact, I can't stand the Blues but I don't think Schenn really did anything there besides trying to tie up Bedard's stick and their arms got tangled a bit. Maybe Bedard pulled something or subluxated the shoulder? I doubt he could've broken anything or separated it.
All you experts. He MAY have slightly cross checked his left arm but somehow that injured Connor’s right shoulder. 😂😂😂😂😂
Crazy to me coach does not standup for Bedard. That was no freak accident. Wow!
Sorry Jeff! Freak accident is bs
This Coach is on his way out if this is his comments
