DETROIT RED WINGS TRADE PACKAGE FOR QUINN HUGHES + WHAT THIS MEANS FOR THE MINNESOTA WILD…
Lego, what the hell? You’re never going to shut up about the Quinn Hughes trade. I know. I know. Four, five, six, seven, six, seven straight videos on Quinn Hughes, former Vancouver Canuck, current Minnesota Wild. It’s going to get weird trying to say that over and over again since wild is a singular noun in itself, but Vancouver traded their Captain Quinn Hughes to the wild yesterday. And we’ve already done our song and dance, three straight videos talking about the Quinn Hughes situation in itself and diving into what exactly it is Vancouver just did here. But I wanted to talk about some of the other teams because yes, it is true. I’m a Vancouver guy. Was raised here. Not born here. I was born in the Philippines, but raised in Vancouver, Conucks fan. I wanted to talk about my team leaving their captain on the block and sending him away to Minnesota. But we do have to have a conversation or two about the team that has acquired him. And I do want to insert another team into this conversation as well. I also wanted to talk about the Detroit Red Wings. And I know that kind of feels like it’s coming out of left field here, but there is an angle and we’ll get into it sooner rather than later. So, in all the videos that we’ve been making about this Quinn Hughes situation getting traded to wherever it is he could get traded to, there have been so many teams linked to Vancouver’s former captain. Minnesota came out of left field. We didn’t really know that the Wild were involved in this at all, but the night before Elliot Freriedman went out there and talked about New Jersey, Detroit, Utah, Carolina, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, the Rangers, the Capitals. That’s a list of eight gosh darn teams in the National Hockey League. Literally almost a third. Add on Minnesota and you’ve got yourselves a long list of teams that were reportedly getting involved in these Quinn Hughes trade talks. Not to mention the fact that Vegas was tossed in there as well. That would have been crazy. But Quinn Hughes ultimately getting sent over to the Minnesota Wild is a really good choice. Really good. And even though it may not necessarily have been Quinn’s first choice, Rutherford went out there and said this. The Conucks were talking to Eastern teams regarding Quinn Hughes because that’s what he kind of wanted. But once Bill Garin called a week ago and asked if he could get in and once they put together their offer, Rutherford said nobody else came close to it. Which is why I’m really ecstatic about the return that the Canucks got. Absolutely. It sucks that Quinn Hughes got traded, but considering the circumstances and considering how he was pretty much halfway out the door already, getting this return is awesome. First round pick plus Zeve Buham, Marco Rossi, and Liam Ugrren. Now, we have already talked about this return at length, so we’re not going to dive into that here. The Minnesota Wild are missing out on Marco Rossi, who by the way isn’t even playing right now anyway because he’s on the IR. Zeve Bullham’s spot gets replaced with Quinn Hughes and you have Liam Ugrren who probably is getting replaced by Nick Obeel in the lineup today for Minnesota. But here’s the thing for all this talk about Quinn Hughes and how maybe selfish he was playing with the Vancouver Conucks this season. How he doesn’t want to pass to guys on his team. He tries to take shots too often. He tries to do too much. I just got to hope, man. Make a gosh darn pass to Kirro Capri off. You’ve got that guy on your right. You’ve got Matt Baldy with the ability to control and weave through guys. You’ve got Erikson Ew winning battles. And you’ve got Terasenko as a revived Russian sniper still doing his thing. Quinn, he better go out there and put together a Norris caliber level of play with the Minnesota Wild. I think if he’s going to be super motivated to head over there, he’s finally feeling it. He’s feeling good. He’s like, “Wait a minute. I’m not playing on the last place team in the NHL anymore in Vancouver. I’m getting bumped up to first class, baby.” This could be what Quinn has needed to fully break out of that kind of selfish way of maneuvering around the offensive zone and inability to just read off of teammates and make plays in that way. Not that he hadn’t made plays at all, but like just the kinds of plays that Quinn Hughes is capable of doing. We didn’t see much of that this year. You can say it’s due to his training. He did admit that he took it easy this summer compared to previous years because in his words, it’s like, oh, he understands what his body needs to get the best performance out of it. So, hey, I’m not going to question a guy who was able to win a Norris Trophy in the National Hockey League, but he didn’t look good this season with Vancouver comparative to before. But now that he’s in Minnesota, this could be a totally totally stacked division. I mean, Kale Mar, Miro Heiskinan, and Quinn Hughes all sharing the ranks in the Central. That’s scary. And I know there are a number of fans from around the NHL that would be looking at this situation and saying, “Wait a minute. Whatever happened to going out East? Whatever happened to the Detroit Red Wings? Whatever happened to the Capitals?” Well, we’re going to be talking about Washington later in today’s show, but I also wanted to talk about the Detroit Red Wings because there are a number of folks that are going out there and debating whether or not Detroit actually had the sauce to be able to put together a suitable Quinn Hughes trade package. Think about the assets for a second that Minnesota sent away. First round pick in 2026. Marco Rossi, Liam Ugrren, and Zeve Buham. Ryan Hannah of the wing wheeled pod said this that’s a big hall for Vancouver and I’m not saying Detroit couldn’t have matched it but it would have been a lot something like Edmonson maybe Axel Santine Pelica but Zeve Bouam’s value is much higher Casper or a Danielson but Lombardi and a Mour maybe and a first Bou is the big piece here and as much as I love Simone Edinson I probably would say that I’d rather have Zeve buy over him. The Vancouver Conucks made that choice. I’d take Buham over Axel Sandine Pelica as well. That is no disrespect to the guys on the wings. I love my wings. They’re one of my favorite teams. But man, you really start to see the value when you think about Bu’s attachment in that trade. Now, could the Red Wings have made something work with a trade that looks like Edson, Casper, let’s just say Lombardi and a first? I do think that the Minnesota Wild package is better. Bouam is an upgrade over the defenseman that Detroit could have given. I would rather have Marco Rossi over Marco Casper at this stage. They’re both young. They both have a lot of potential, but Marco Rossi has proven. And then Liam Ogrren, I mean, there’s a sentimentality there because he is a former linemate of Jonathan Laramaki. There’s a lot to like out of that connection. First round pick. Okay, Detroit’s first round pick. I’d probably wager a bet and say it’s going to be more valuable than Minnesota’s this year. But if you’re making a trade for Quinn Hughes, that kind of doesn’t really matter because whichever team gets Quinn is going to have a much worse first round pick, if you get what I mean. The grindline guys went out there and said this to match the Hughes offer from Minnesota, you’re looking at Edmonson, Casper, or Danielson, Finny, and a 2026 first. The reluctance to move Edmonson and the proven track record of Rossi are probably the sticking points as to why the Red Wings could not get this trade done. And it makes sense to make that deal. You create more holes that Hughes alone doesn’t fix. Bull is projected to grade out higher than Edmonson. And if Hughes only wants to sign long-term in Jersey, then you don’t make the trade. Disappointing? Sure. Understandable? Absolutely. And I think that’s a super rational way of looking at it as well. This all works for Minnesota as long as Quinn Hughes signs long term. We don’t know if he will, but a lot of Wild fans that I saw on their own subreddit and whatnot were complaining like, “Hey, wait a minute. We just gave up a whole bunch of stuff. Rossi Ugrren Boo first. That’s not nothing. And we don’t even know if this guy’s going to resign and stay with us beyond 2027.” I’ll tell you this, folks. Even if he doesn’t, if you win the Stanley Cup in 2026, it doesn’t matter. If he gets a championship ring, then it doesn’t matter. He can leave in 2026 if you want. Trade him to New Jersey. If he ends up winning a Stanley Cup in 2026 because it’s like, yeah, no, like you fulfilled your duty. You brought us the cup. Thank you. Now you can peace off and go with your brothers and resign there. You’d be doing him a favor if you were to set it up that way. But of course, we know the Minnesota Wild, they probably have higher aspirations than just having one year of Quinn Hughes. Ultimately though, this is a pretty big ask. And the Detroit Red Wings, they had reluctance to move on from some of their players. It makes sense why they could not have matched it, especially now knowing that this was the crazy package that they ended up receiving. Vancouver got Buum, Rossi, Ugrin, and a first. Four first round caliber assets. two amazing prospects, or at least no, one is an amazing prospect. One is an okay prospect, one is not a prospect anymore, but he was amazing when he was younger. Let me know your thoughts in the comment section below. How do you feel about Minnesota’s new number one defenseman? how he’s going to change the scope for Minnesota hockey against Colorado against Dallas, what he could do with Kira Capriovv, and if you’re a Red Wings fan, how do you feel about the potential offer that to match that Minnesota deal? And do you think it would have been enough? Let me know in the comments all your opinions. I hope you enjoyed this British Ash and bye.

When will wings get Hughes?😂😂😂😂😂
Congratulations to the Canucks. They are officially the "Loser" franchise of the NHL. Every major league has one. The NFL has the Jets, the NBA has the Wizards, MLB has the Pirates and now the NHL has the Canucks!
I'm glad the Wings didn't pull the trigger on this. We just finally get our center prospects into the lineup progressing nicely. It would be a shame to reset the whole process for a single player. We would have Hughes, but who is the future down the middle for the Wings? PLUS ASP and a first. PLUS no guarantee of Hughes resigning and the possibility of losing him to free agency for nothing in return.
The price was too high unfortunately. The Wings have been bouncing between first and 4th in the Atlantic pretty much the entire season and part of the success is due to our young guys contributing and making the team better as they're getting better.
Minnesota gave up a lot for someone that might not even resign with them! Vancouver avoided a Marner situation. Where Marner left and the Leafs got almost nothing in return. Vancouver cashed in on Hughes before he became a UFA.
I get that Hughes has a year and a half left on his contract, but everybody knows he’s a rental at Minnesota
Theres a 10% change that he signs with the Wild. he'll still either go to the Wings or Devils.
I just watched the Bill Guerin presser. The difference between him and Steve Yzerman…
Guerin- "When a player of this caliber is available you can't screw around". "Vancouver had boxes to check and we checked them for them"
Yzerman- "Trades have a way of working themselves out over time"
From what I gathered from Guerin, this wasn't a bidding war situation. They realized that they could make the trade and offered what they thought would make the trade happen. Dude just stepped up and went after the opportunity. And made the trade happen while he was making meatballs (true story!).
I disagree with what Ryan theorized as what the Detroit the offer may be. I think it would look more like Danielson/Kasper, Edvinsson/ASP +1st, and instead Carter Bear or MBN. They would have had to upgrade a player of value over Ohgren to make it more competitive.
Literally stfu about it already .. he’s gone who fucken cares now
Quinn Hughes, future NJ Devil.
Petey= Jonna and the Whale
It would be hilarious if Hughes just keeps playing like he has all year. Never passing. Staying on the ice for 5 minutes straight. Drive Manny down to 25th, lol
Its gonna be great to watch whiny little quinn get knocked out of the first round and get bronze in the Olympics.
This is a really hard trade to get behind. Zeev could be a great pickup, but his game was looking really rough in Min earlier this season. However, Zeev is only 20 years old and has plenty of time to grow…..id be more confident if it wasnt the Canucks development team tasked with bringing out his potential……..im not pessimistic, im just a Canucks fan.
Im hoping they flip Ohgren and possibly even Rossi, along with some other players, to accrue more draft picks. Sherwood should stay imo.
some of your best trades are the ones you Don't Make !
I'm reminded of when Parise and Sutter were unrestricted free agents who let it be known that they were going to sign with the same team. Then, like Quinn Hughes now, Detroit was one of the bidders, but they ultimately went to Minnesota. Detroit gave up the bidding at some point, as the price just went too high.
In hindsight, it is good for Detroit that we didn't win that bidding war, and I believe hindsight will say the same about this one. In both cases, we are talking about really good players, but I look at what we would have to give up to get them and say "They aren't that good!". Sometimes the best deal is the one you don't make.
Never like a guy who gives up, but has now set the bar very high for himself. That said- Vancouver got the better of the deal. Lego you Rock. PEACE! To all.
LMAO, Lego will not let go of his spamming content, will he? The trade is done, no point in talking through more hypotheticals that are all moot now.
You haven't even discussed get who you're going to get in the draft next year.. Ivar stenberg.. DHL better look out because that's a team on the rise
I don't like it as much as another fan, but i look at it as we got a huge return forsomebody guarenteed to leave. The longer we waited to move Hughes the less of a return we woulda have received. Hate to see him go but he deserves to win.
Buium, Willander and DPetey for future backend sounds promising. Hope Canucks can develop them all properly.
Glad we (the RW's) didn't get him. The cost was too high for a season-and-a-half rental. We've got our Hughes. His name is Axel Sandin-Pellikka.
Best thing for quinn to get away from the schmucks. He wont sign an extension and will head to the devils for free to play with his brothers .
Hughes wasnt selfish. he was trying to spark canucks offense which is terrible. they cant sustain offensive pressure. canucks have terrible bad scheme of dump and chase which 1 shot and done in offense. Hughes gonna have many more norris and show us it was a mistake to even think about a trade. but the writing was on the wall his future was not with the canucks. hope this package turns out well cause the canuck nation is not feeling at ease with it.
Both teams got what they needed, Vancouver got younger like they said they wanted to. Vancouver also have already a bunch of young players on the team, and if you can build up a bunch of young drafts now you have a whole crop of players coming up at the same time, same age, that was Vancouver’s position so this was their need. I think Vancouver did the right thing. Why keep staying in the middle of the pack and be a middle team your best to bite the bullet have a few bad years and reload.
Minnesota on the other hand. They’re on the other end of the spectrum, they are trying to compete with the likes of Colorado and Dallas they needed to up their team the best they can and they think Quinn Hughes is their guy in my opinion yes, Quinn Hughes is a very good hockey player, great in fact, but I wanna see how Quinn Hughes’s body holds up in the first 2 to 3 rounds of NHL rigourous playoff hockey that little body took a beating the year Vancouver did their run and his body did not hold up well, and theyonly went two rounds.
Hughes was a nice to have, not a need. We Detroit need a top 6 bonfide scoring winger. That simple. Seider, Edv, ASP …. we're set on blue line for next decade, plus with Cossa coming…
