Miami Heat Lacks Top Young Talent? Kel’el Not On ESPN 25 Under 25 | Giannis Rumored To Want Some Sun

Hey, welcome on in guys. Tobin here with you and thanks for checking out the channel your rascals. Hope everybody’s doing well out there. Ah, I missed the Miami Heat, man. This has been too long of a break. Too too many days have gone by without basketball. I appreciate that they’re getting a break. It’s good physically for everybody. Pella Larson apparently was the only guy to miss practice today uh as the Miami Heat will be back at action on Monday taking on the Toronto Raptors as uh they will get back going and get back into the swing of things. This has been a long break. Got the NBA Cup tonight. That’ll get going. No, Adam. I was looking over the media schedule. It’s interesting. And I don’t I’m scrolling through. I’m looking at today. Then I see uh I see Orlando Magic media availability. I see New York Knicks media availability. I see Thunder, Spurs, NBA on Prime media availability. All right. No Adam Silver. Interesting. All right. Adam Silver maybe the next day see him there maybe on the championship day live shot coaches available immediate dining interesting dude very interesting no commissioner silver must be busy must be busy doesn’t you know must not have time to address anybody there. I’m sure he’ll stop by the broadcast today and that’ll be on the up and up, you know. Good for him. Sure he’ll maybe maybe he’ll make time for Amazon. You know, what do they pay him a gazillion dollars? Why answer questions? Why answer questions about, you know, gambling scandals and, you know, screwing the Miami Heat over and all that type of stuff. Why answer questions about that? You know, who knows? Tell you one thing though, I’ve been seeing the uh I saw this Chris Haynes before. Look, I told you I’m a changed man. I don’t care how much Chris Haynes wants to sit here and tell me that Giannis wants some son. I just because why? Because Giannis said that Florida cities make him happy. You think that you’re going to get me to to to buy into this just because Chris Haynes was the other guy? Seems to be like he’s relaying the Giannis message cuz he’s talking about meetings that took place and all of a sudden I’m just going to be sitting here listening to Chris Haynes once again just like it’s the Damen Lillard saga and you think you’re going to get me. Well, you’re not. Not this guy right here. Not old Tobes. I am a different guy. I told you guys here. I told you on the radio show I’m a changed man. And so Chris Haynes respectfully love the information. Thanks for that. Says that the Heat Warriors will be interested. You know, maybe great. That’s good for all of them. You know, I I if we get there, we get there, you know, but I’m not I’m not following this thing, you know. You’re not going to catch me like uh Hansel and Gretle like eating candy all the way to the witch’s house. I am not going to fall for the old trap here this this time, Chris Haynes. So, I mean, you know, did he did he specify did he like, you know, wood ocean? Does he want some more of a tropical paradise? Or does he want more of a, you know, Pacific type of vibe? I did he you I don’t even want to know. Okay, so don’t even worry. I don’t want to know. Don’t bother telling me. It’s not important, dude. Okay, I’m not here for it. So, you could just Great information, you know, interesting. Some may say other people might be very interested that Giannis would uh like to be in a place with sun. You know, some would say the place to go to that would be the sunshine state, you know, if you were looking for sun. I mean, this would seem to be the state to do it. You know, I’m just But I I’m not going to get sucked into that. So, don’t you worry, dude. I mean, that’s But, you know, fantastic uh to get where we’re at with all that. you know, it’s uh Yeah. Yeah. I mean, don’t worry about it. Okay, so the Miami Heat, they they’re getting back at it. Pella Larson was uh was banged up. He missed practice. I wanted to get to this. This was interesting to me. I saw there’s a new list out. They do this every year on ESPN. I believe this 25 under 25. So, you can’t be 25. Like Tyler Heron not eligible for list. He’s 25 turning 26. Um you have to be under 25. And so I was looking over this list because I was interested in it because the Miami Heat did not have representation on this list. And you look at a lot of the teams that have representation on this. These are these are teams that are pretty hum. And this list 25 under 25. Uh you got not a lot of surprises here. and and but there are some certain guys I do think there’s one particular person on the Heat you could say cuz they said that they did this list based on potential you know this this is a list of the guys they think that is uh that that is based on potential and where they’re going to go and so this is a this is a potential not necessarily just even where they’re at list. So just keep that in mind. But uh on this list they have a 25 Reed Shepard, 24 Assert Thompson, 23 Josh Giddy, 22 Alex Sar, 21 Jaylen Suggs, and 20 Dyson Daniels. Those are your guys there in the 20s. Uh and I was interested in this list because I was looking at the Miami Heats crop of guys who are under 25 right now. And I was wondering, I was like, man, do cuz these these teams, a lot of these team, not all of them, but a lot of these teams are are playing pretty good ball right now and are have their organizations in a pretty good spot. Uh, and most of these organizations had to take some real years in the dumper. Like there was some some tough sledding. And in fact, looking at this list, uh, of the 20, you got five number one overall picks on this list. The top of the list is WBY, Anthony Edwards, Kate Gunningham. They’re all number one guys. Then they got Jaylen Williams, which I have no quibbles about. Awesome player on the best team in the league. Uh Alpar Shenon is on the list at top five. So that’s your top five of these guys. Amen. Thompson right outside of that. He was a number four pick. The guys on this list that are even outside the top five, they just have eight. So, a lot of these guys are just top five projected picks. They only actually got four guys on the list that are even outside the top 10 that were ever picked on this. And that would be Jaylen Duran, Dyson, uh not Dyson Daniels, Jaylen Duran, Jaylen Johnson, uh Jaylen Williams, and Alpar Shenon. Those are the only guys on this list that were not top 10 picks in there going forward, which would not give the Miami Heat many opportunities on a list like this to get somebody because they haven’t picked inside the top 10 since 2015. It’s been 10 years since they took Justice Winslow at number 10. Uh the highest that they have picked since then, number 13 when they took Tyler Herro, took Bam Adobay at 14. Khal Wear last year at 15. Uh, and in this list, I believe there’s only one two guys on the list that were even picked outside the top 15, 15 or below, and that would be Shenon and Jaylen Johnson. So, you know, it it doesn’t, you know, it does kind of show you a pattern of the guys that they dub in the league, like, oh my god, these are the dudes um who they think are taking over. And like I think there are some Reed Shepard who basically got a red shirt year last year and now was like their go-to guard because Fred Van Vleet got hurt. Rockets are a really good team. He’s surrounded in a good situation playing pretty decent this year and he was number three overall last year. Like they obviously thought very highly of him. Um and I think if anybody was going to crack this list from the Miami Heat’s crop, here are the guys that the Miami Heat have under 25 right now on their roster. It’s not very many. It’s only four guys and two of them are turning 25 in in a in a in a couple of months, which is Haime Hakez Jr. and Pella Larson. Um, both of those guys will be turning 25 in February. They got Kashad, Kashad Johnson who was undrafted and he’s turning 25 in June. And then there are three draft picks right now because Tyler again is past this now. It’s crazy. I believe he was on this list before. Sure. Bam was too. I don’t know how long they’ve been doing this list. Um, but they got Casper Yakonis, the youngest guy on the Heat at 19. They have Khal Wear at 15. Uh, they have Khalware who’s 21. And then they have Nikico Yoic who is 22. And the question is, can any of those guys crack this list? I do think that on the bottom 15 of this list, you got the likes of Denny Aia, Stefon Castle looks like a stud. Khan Canipple uh looks incredible, too. Then you got these talented guards and Dylan Harour, VJ Edgecomb. Again, these are guys who are at the top of this year’s draft. Dyson Daniels, one of the best defensive players in the league. Um Jaylen Suggs, you know, they talk about the potential of Jaylen. Jayen Sug’s a dog I love. I don’t know, you know, like is there going to be like star position there? He’s probably never going to be that guy on the team. They got three Orlando Magic on this list. There are two Atlanta Hawks. There are what? Three Detroit Pistons and Thompson. Um Duran and then of course Cade. Uh they got Josh Giddy at 23 said that. Um the interesting thing on this on the potential list I think last year they have on the Orlando Magic they had Paulo Bonero and they had France Vagner and those guys were three and four on this list respectfully and they’ve dropped them all the way down to outside the top 10 now. And I guess my question my my reaction to all this was like I’m looking over this list. I think a couple things are fascinating about it. one, these teams all had to go through a real period of stinking up the joint, which the Miami Heat really haven’t ever done. Uh, they’ve done it for like one year. They’ve never really got they’ve never in Pat Riley’s existence gone through a a a slew of bad years to re-calibrate their entire talent pool. So, that that that stood out to me on this list. Um, and everybody being such a hot and then everybody being such a hot there. There’s not a lot of diamonds in the rough on this list according to ESPN either. And then I was realistically thinking to myself, well, how many of these guys do I think uh that the Miami Heats crop could be better than uh or could could jump the span of these guys in in some shape or form. Casmer Jonas is a mystery. I mean, we really don’t know. He has not played. And I think if you look at some of the other guards, you know, they’re kind of into the fold of these things and they’re not necessarily on terrible teams. VJ Edgecomb is on a decent Sixers team that obviously has a star guard and Tyrese Maxi who was taken out of top 10. He was taken, everybody knows infamously, 21 right after pressure. Um, but Yakonis is a bit of a mystery. Now, some said that he was going to be a lottery pick, but not necessarily a top five pick. He didn’t have like this grand grandfall for the Miami Heat. The Yovic one is the interesting one because I I will say this as somebody who put a lot of stock in a Yovic, held the Heat, put a four-year deal in a Yovic, had an impressive year. Now, Yoic was 27 overall, uh was a real project pick for the Miami Heat. He was taken at 19 years old. uh and and a very odd pick in the in the spec of the Heat, an international prospect that wasn’t even 20 yet that the Heat brought in. Skinny, lanky kid uh who physically put on a lot of muscle and got himself right. um but is an interesting prospect because like he is a tall player who doesn’t necessarily love to who doesn’t play the gritty big style that you need but also isn’t really going to get the growing pains that maybe an Alper and Shingun like Shingun for example is you know got like a couple years ago where a lot of the young where some of the young guards in Houston got hurt and he really became the man for them This is before they started to leap up and contend last year. And Yovic is really the only consistency of a consistent role that he got and earned because he has he’s got to earn it too was last year after falling out of the rotation and after not being a starter. Um got that run last year before breaking his hand where he was a sixman. Probably the best most consistent run of his career. Um, and unfortunately for him, like you’re now on this situation where you have a bunch of veterans on this team and you got to go find your footing. And look, to be fair to the Heat, like they gave him the extension, they gave him the opportunity to start. Uh, and the production just hasn’t been there. So, I can’t put it all on, you know, I can’t take all of the blame off of Nico. I mean, that just would that, you know, that that wouldn’t be uh conducive with what happened. uh because you know he’s given a couple opportunities backto-back years to start but understood yeah he’s a little bit of a an interesting fit with the other guys that they have and yeah he’s got to find some type of way to to break through because you know look at Shingun and Shingun is what a year older than him and you know is probably a top two three player on the Rockets right now and Yovic is just not even getting minutes right now. I did see that Spose said about uh Yoic after practice when he was asked about it by Anthony Chang of the Miami Herald and he said like look his opportunity is going to come again and that I I I I’ve been harping this over the last few days. I think these practices are good because these guys will get it a chance to impress upon themselves. Yakona is the same way. I think that I don’t know if it’ll necessarily crack them rotation minutes, but if somebody is struggling, not going well, if Simone continues to have a tough shooting go of it, maybe that there was something in practice that’ll be fresh on Spo’s mind to have the trust to go with them. But I can’t necessarily say Yoic looks like anybody who’s going to be close to a top 25, under 25 player. So, the only guy that I think that the Heat got right now that’s on this list is KL Wear. And I really do think that if I looked at some of the the potential that he’s shown just based on his talent and and said this on draft night was like the only thing that you really could see on him that was affecting draft status was motor and attitude because physical traits, explosive athleticism, uh offensive shooting ability maybe doesn’t have like the purest just touch around the rim right now that we’ve seen. The thing that’s interesting with Kell is we see some really crazy circus shots that this guy can pull off and like the simple bunnies that are there, those have been the struggle for him. So, that’s been uh that’s been an interesting thing with with him. But if I if anybody looks like they could make this list out of the crop they got right now, it is him. Even with him not being a top five pick, top 10 pick, certainly not a number one pick, but I do think that he’s highlight grabbing just a matter of like with this next go of it with the Miami Heat, will he get the minutes? Because he really did flash there when things were going right for the Miami Heat. And I think to the point where people would have been like, whoa, we gota we gota we got to find what we got here. But I do think like there are certain guys on this list like I don’t think he’s going to pass anytime soon. And probably most of them are right now in the top 25. But like I think probably the line is like Jaylen Duran. Like Jaylen Duran’s been incredible this year. Um but you know like the AAS, the uh the Daniels, the Suggs, the Alex Sar like I’ve seen my you know Kell against Alex Sar. That’s been a good matchup. Alex Sar’s on a terrible team right now and he was the number what two overall pick. So, you know, again, Kell’s not necessarily in that fold. These guys aren’t there to really get to go through their growing pains. Um, which is a little bit of a hard thing with the Heat. You know, like you got to get Spose Trust. He doesn’t love necessarily just giving things to the young guys. It’s not like it’s never happened. Tyler Herro got to play right out of the gate being in a bench roll. um you know, start of his career, Michael Beasley and and Kell’s gotten some minutes. It’s not like he’s been completely ignored, but also it’s like you’re in this weird tweenerville of like, hey, they’ve been kind of contending, then like keeping their head of a float to stay a contender, but not really being there. So, they’ve never really taken it down to the studs and letting guys just kind of go out there and feel these things out where a lot of these guys have other than probably like Reed Shepard, Josh Giddy who got kind of got, you know, he got exiled to Chicago and then he kind of got to do that there. Um, the Young Magic got to kind of feel their way and all kind of grow together. Harper’s coming in there on the Webinyama show and we’ll find out once everybody’s back healthy and Castle’s killing it. Obviously had that great game against the the Lakers with with De’aran Fox like what they’re going to do all there. Um Edgecom’s in a little bit of that situation too, you know, but he’s got, you know, these old ass veterans that are on that team. So those opportunities are going to be there for him as well. And I hope that that you know why looking over all this you know you look at guys like guy Cooper Flag his team is he’s going to get to go through some growing pain. Scotty Barnes there’s been some down Toronto years and now he seems like he’s starting to hit his stride. Atlanta really hasn’t gone through that. I got to give credit there. Atlanta hasn’t had any real down swings and and if you look by their picks like you have a fringe top 10 guy and a guy in the 20s. Like they’ve done a really good job. But for Miami’s sake, it is important because yeah, even like you think like Bam is getting to the age that he is. T I can’t believe Tyler Herro is going to be 26 this year. And that youth movement like there’s a lot of mystery there. There’s not and and a lot of unproven there and and that ground swell of like your talent and guys continuing to get roles. Who’s really going to pop? Haime has had a nice bounceback this year, but again, he was an older four-year player. Nothing against that. He came in, he produced his rookie year, had a down sophomore year and has looked really good this year. Um, but he’s not even eligible for the list come up in a couple of months. So, it was just an interesting thing. It was kind of an interesting scope to see where everybody was in the league, where these guys were taken, why some teams are stacked, and maybe I guess what the Heat’s path is going forward because we’re going into this whole Giannis thing. If the Heat do trade for Giannis, Chris Haynes, gooseies aside, there’s, you know, there’s there’s they’re going to give up a a heapload of picks. And actually, it was funny looking back at the Heat’s draft p uh past, you know, they’ve gone four straight drafts using their picks. And uh and it’s been five out of six. And you know, cuz I was thinking, man, you know, the Heat, you think of them as a team that like doesn’t use their picks, but none of these picks are high picks. You know, they picked a 20, which is a pick they traded for because OKC had their pick last year. Um 15, 18, 27, 21. They didn’t have a pick cuz the Goron Dragage deal finally got uh finalized. Uh precious at you at 20, and then you had your two high lottery picks of 13 with Tyler, 14 with Bam. Then of course you’re kind of in those years where you had a Goron deal you had to pay up, you used to pay those rest of the LeBron deal. Um, so yeah, it’s not been their it’s not been their path. You know, they’ve kind they’ve always kind of gone on that we’re going to get the guy and then somewhere along the way we’re going to hope to find guys to elevate that and they’ve done an incredible job with replenishing from the undrafted pool, but it’s not something that’s always, you look at the undrafted pool right now, you know, it’s not the most reliable like Keshot’s still going through his growing pains. They haven’t found a diamond in the rough shooter like Shus or Duncan in a little bit. Um they tried to with Cole Schwider after he’s been through a bunch of stops. So it’s just kind of interesting. It’s an interesting way to see how the roster is constructed right now, where things stand and who really has a chance to pop and catch the attention of the league. And right now I would say on the Heatscrop only the Kryptonian is the one who’s got the availability to do that. You just need to give him some more availability or minutes to do

Tobin reacts to the Miami Heat lacking any representation on the ESPN Top 25 Under 25 List. Lots of Spurs, Pistons, Magic and Rockets. Can Kel’el Ware ever crack this list? Kasparas Jakučionis? Nikola Jović? Plus Chris Haynes teases more Miami Heat Giannis Antetokounmpo smoke hinting the Greek Freak wants to be somewhere with sun. Too bad Ol’ Tobes is a changed man and can’t get excited about it!

  1. We have talent we just not sharing it on the court…Its not even that bad…How you go from the fastest team in pace to becoming the slowest in half court and points scored..that's crazy😮

  2. the Heat lack top-end talent depth. what's the point of Giannis joining a Heat team that would lack draft assets and talent if it's just hypothetically Giannis and Bam. that's not enough to compete, survive the season, beat OKC. Build the way OKC builds. it'll take years but that's what happens when you trade all your assets when you should be stockpiling. ignore the fans bitching and build the consistent way.

  3. Every team who is on the rise is playing & investing in young guys… meanwhile the Heat want their oldest guys to take all the minutes. Just delaying the inevitable & prolonging the process.

Powell & Wiggins & Fontecchio are a cute story… THEY ARE NOT THE FUTURE
