LFR19 – Game 31 – Cancun – Oilers 6, Maple Leafs 3
You know what the difference is between Leafs fans and Leafs players? What’s that? Leafs fans like hockey. That’s pretty good. I thought you were going to say the players get paid. Let’s go. It starts with an A and ends with an exciting off the chart levels of passion. That’s just a with you wherever you are. Welcome to LFO. Lease lose. Embarrassment to garbage against the Edmonton Oilers at home on hockey night in Canada. Would you believe me if I told you this LFR video has a sponsor? And would you believe me if I told you it was for pain relief? This LFR is brought to you by Genol. Hey, joint stiffness doesn’t care how old you are. A lot of people in their 20s, 30s, and 40s already feel tight knees and stiff hips after training. Shoulders don’t rotate like you used to. I always think when I’m playing hockey or running around with the kids, I don’t need to worry about pain. But then after I’m done doing these things, I realize, boy, was I wrong. Whether it’s morning stiffness, tight knees, or mild aches throughout the day. These are signs that your joints need some support. And that’s where Genol comes in. Genol is a proudly Canadian company, clinically studied and scientifically backed to support mobility and daily comfort. Genol offers natural, clinically proven solutions to help you and your joints now so that you can stay active longer. Head to genicoall.ca and use the promo code SDP25G for 25% off. That’s code SDP25G for 25% off at gnac.ca. And now back to LFR. So badly wished the only thing that hurt was my joints. No, cuz what was that? What was that? Honest to goodness, what was that? Was that streak all for nothing? If you’re a glass half full person, the last six Leafs home games, they got a point. At least a point in every game. If you’re a glass half empty person, they lost four out of the six games. They were 20 and four. It’s a delightfully leafy record, but it’s hockey night in Canada. You have a chance at redemption after that Sharks choke. And also, the Oilers have a new goalie in net, and that’s a difficult position for him to be in. He was traded yesterday. The Leafs have a bit of a tough start to the game. Conor McDavid scores basically right away, but the Leafs always have a tough start to the game. They do not know when hockey games begin. But then after they screwed their heads on a little bit, they actually looked all right. They even tied it up. They even took the lead and the Oilers didn’t tie it until the second period when Troy Stcher accidentally scored on his own net. And that is funny and that is the sort of thing I would normally goof on in LFR, but that was like the 25th or 26th most depressing and embarrassing part about this game for the Leafs. Troy Stcher was one of the only guys who looked like he tried the whole time. Nennis Hillby put it perfectly after the game when he was talking about the Troy Ster own goal. happens. But sometimes happens and sometimes you are and there is an enormous difference between the two and you are far more likely to win a game when happens as opposed to you are the game is tied. Conor McDavid does Conor McDavid things with 31 seconds to go in the second. Everyone is pulled to one side of the ice. Pass over to Darnell Nurse. One timer and it’s in. But at the end of the day, you are down one goal, one playing pretty gosh darn well. The only Oiler causing you problems happens to be the best player in the world. You’re on home ice. You have 20 minutes. You have a shot. Kind of like how the Sharks had a shot in your building the other night. Remember that? Remember that? You were up two nothing just like you were last year against these Sharks. You were up two nothing and then they made a 2-1 and then they made a 2-2 and then they won. Yeah. So, like anything’s possible, right? You could have a good third period and turn it around. Cue the comeback and go. What? What the? Hello. I’m here. Hello. Is it Let me Hello, guys. There’s a hockey game going on. Has no one The third period began. And no, no. Get those lights on. The Oilers went up 4-2, then 5-2, and the Leafs abandoned the game. Can we find a goal? Can we Can we find a shot on goal? It feels like I’m looking for a contact lens. Austin. Austin. Poppy. Tone. How many? You have more nicknames than goals this season, dude. Willie. Willie. I found Oh gosh. Thank goodness it’s Willie. Hey, can you stop like falling asleep on the literally resting your head and falling asleep on the bench? Like I know you had the flu and stuff, but we got to stop acting like the Leafs are the only team that ever gets sick. I’m fairly positive that the flu is too scared of Nathan McKinnon to infect him. And the flu is right. And also like if you’re too sick to play, maybe don’t. And Morgan Morgan, I think I think I see you over there, but your your shot ended up somewhere over there. Guys, can we get the lights back on? I’m starting to get scared. What was that noise? Was that Craig Baruv? You better hope it wasn’t. I wasn’t on the ice tonight. You guys were. He looks like he’s ready to kill you guys. After a decent to good opening 40, they stopped playing hockey, which causes problems for a professional hockey team. In front of 20,000 marks who paid to be in the arena and hundreds of thousands of fans watching at home who already finished the Diddy documentary and now have nothing else to watch. Can I turn the lights back on? Cuz I I got to show you guys something. Like, if any of you didn’t watch the game and you’re looking for an in-depth breakdown of the third period, I mean it. They did not show up. At one point, there was like 3 minutes left and the Leafs were being outshot 11 to1 in a third period at home that they were losing the entire time. That’s bad. That’s brutal. That’s humiliating. That is subprofessional. And after the game, this team’s leadership spoke about it. Kidding. The Leafs sent out Morgan Riley, Dennis Hildabby, Scott Lton, and Oliver Ecman Larson. You suffered a humiliating loss at home where you did not arrive at the scene of the crime for the final 20 minutes. And the people who spoke to the media and had to answer for that loss were some of the people who were the least responsible for it. Scott Lton never takes a shift off. Dennis Hillby is the only reason you haven’t lost every one of the last seven games in regulation. Morgan Riley didn’t have a very good night and Oliver Ecman Larson actually took some shots and scored a goal. Willy’s not out there. Tavvaris isn’t out there. Matthews isn’t out there. The captain unacceptable. Disgraceful. And you’re going to be like, “Oh, well something’s going through the room and they’re sick or that guy just got hit by Darnell Nurse for 60 minutes.” You’re telling me you can’t answer a couple questions about one of the worst games of the season? Will he’s got the flu? How long How long has he had that? And does it prevent you from listening to your coach for 3 months at a time? Hopefully Tavvarus was back in the locker room looking for the version of him that we saw through October and November. And as for Matthews, I’m physically ill, bro. He’s been getting more shots recently. He’s been getting more looks. Every now and then you say he’s back. It’s become a meme in my mentions and in the comments and I can’t get away from it. Someone tweeted at me, “When did Matthews become a defensive 2C and we talked about it and that’s how Borub uses him for sure, but like it’s Austin Matthews, right? It’s Austin Matthews. He scored 60 goals twice. He won the heart trophy for his second highest scoring season. I don’t even think he was nominated when he scored 69. That’s why he makes 13 and a quarter. Best goal scorer on earth. Remember when you could say that and not even give it a second thought? Do you remember that? And I remember him not being a terrible defensive player back then. I think he’s gotten better, but at the cost of making him preposterously ordinary. We had a conversation at the end of the stream, producer Drew and I, because he loves to stir the pot and he gets to cheer for Nathan McKinnon. Where does Matthews rank among the best centers in the league? Like, who would you rather have? Ignore age. Ignore Cap hit. Just performance. McKinnon and McDavid. Free space. Free space. McDavid won a game for his team in this one. Beginning, middle, end. McDavid, McKinnon, free space. Celibbrini. Heading into today’s game where the Sharks were down 5-1 and then beat the Penguins 65 in overtime. Celibbrini had factored in on over 49% of all Sharks goals scored this season. Nearly half of the goals the Sharks scored are at least in part due to Mlin celebrating unless he scored them himself. Conor Baddard offensively. Yeah, he’s better right now. Overall, that’s tough. I don’t know if I give him that yet. Sid in his big ass age. Yeah, like leaps and bounds. Yeah, way better. Way better. Oh. tricidal. He’s not even a full-time center and he’s better at it. The name we came to was Mark Schiffley. Mark Shley is currently a better offensive player than Austin Matthews. Matthews is a far superior defensive player. Shley is not that good at that. But is that where we’re at? Here’s what I wanted to show you. The blue room. Look at all this stuff on the wall, right? Look at all this. Look at all this. It looks like I got it all. Looks like I spent a fortune on this. No, this is most of this is stuff I got at the flea market or like on Craigslist. There’s a few gifts and like pieces of art as well. Uh the vast majority of this room didn’t cost money. It didn’t not much flea market stuff. I bought two things. as a treat to myself. Two things that cost a pretty penny because I spend a lot of time in here and I just wanted some pretty things for myself. One of them is a signed photo of Felix Pot Van fighting Ron Hexl signed by both guys. It’s awesome. The other is this It is a signed photo of Austin Matthews scoring his 60th goal for the first time. Jeff Blash looks so upset. It says 60th goal in the signature. It’s This is the seventh one out of 34. There’s only 34 of these in the world. And these two Scottish flag looking things are not Scottish flags. These are two pieces of the net that he scored it on. And I I it it hangs above the camera I shoot these videos on. And I want to take it off the wall because it makes me so sad. It makes me so depressed. The free space from people who hate thinking is woo merner. This dates back to last season at least when Matthews was dayto-day and then went to Europe midseason for some mystery treatment. Still never really looked all that good. Huh? Didn’t look the same anyway. And now this season he’s like, “I’m fine.” And I wish he would stop saying that because then you’re just bad. And like his bar for bad is very different. He’s still an excellent hockey player. He’s paid like one of the best hockey players because that’s what he was and that’s what he isn’t. And if you think I’m laying it on a little thick, here was Craig Buru after the game on account of Matthews and Tvaris didn’t talk. Buru on the Leaf’s performance tonight. I talked to the team after the game. Our leaders got to take control a lot more than they are right now. To me, that’s all a mindset. Whether you’re down a goal or up in the San Jose game, you got to have more urgency. Speaking of the Leafs and the Sharks, both of those teams were down 52 in the third period in their respective games tonight. In fact, the Sharks were down 51. Now, did they A give up and stop playing hockey immediately even though that is their chosen profession? or B. Did they score four unanswered goals to tie it and then win it in overtime? It’s B. It’s I’ll spoil it. It’s B. I’ve said this all season. You can lose. You are very allowed to lose. No one loses as pathetically and meekly as the Leafs. Listen, I gave it to Ryan Reeves last podcast in the last video, but like he does have a point. It’s an office. It’s a cubicle. And the Leafs are scared to death of emotion. And I’m going to say it again and again and again until enough people in the Leafs organization actually hear it and it seeps into their pores. The call is coming from inside the house. You wind yourselves tight. It’s not the market. It’s not the media. It’s not the fans. It’s you. and they try and try and try to snuff out every little fire without noticing that they are in fact freezing to death. Do you do you watch basketball? Do you watch basketball content? The Leafs are the living embodiment of a Jeff Teague segment and it’s one of my favorite ones. Jeff Teague, he was an all-star, most famously a one-time all-star. Thank you, Demar Rosen. He was on a podcast talking about a certain game from his NBA career where Russell Westbrook, who’s a rather canankerous player, was trying to get him going. Jeff Teague was playing against Russell Westbrook. This is important to the story. And while Russ was antagonizing Jeff Teague, Jeff Teague goes, “Man, I don’t care.” And Russell Westbrook famously went, “That’s the problem.” Ah, yes. They try to keep it even keel. They try to You can’t pretend to be something you’re not. There are some guys in the league who are genuinely like that. They are rare items. They are rare people. And the Leafs organizationwide so desperately want to be people like that. And they’re not. The Leafs are essentially boiled frogs who have been sitting in a pot of water for so long just chilling there ignoring the fact that the water was getting hotter and hotter. Listen, there’s no doubt that the Leafs have been better recently. They have been. But until they get rid of efforts like this, no one will ever or should ever take them seriously as a team and as professional hockey players. You guys want this. You want this bad. You want to be the best. You want to win. I don’t believe you. No one believes you. you don’t believe you because you don’t know when you’re going to get the puck. You don’t know when it’s going to bounce your way. You don’t know when you’re going to get sick. You don’t know when you’re going to get injured. You don’t know when you’re going to be hot. You don’t know when you’re going to be cold. But you do know when your checks arrive and that there’s always going to be flights to Cancun. Ask any Lee fan of any vintage who their favorite players are and ask yourself if you play like a single one of them. I don’t think any of you do. And until that changes, you’re just going to stay the laughs that everyone calls you. And now they get two days off before they play Chicago on Thursday at home. Sleep in your own bed. Don’t even dream of attending any optional skates that there might be. Just collect and resent the people who pay the corporation that you collect from. If anyone doesn’t like playing here, and I get the impression there’s quite a few of them, don’t worry. The feelings mutual from all of us, the forgettable losers or the ones we remember forever. Those are your two options. Have some pride. Not for us, not for anyone else, just for yourself because that was embarrassing. That is it for this one. Thank you very much for watching. Click like if you like this video. Click subscribe if you really liked it. Tell all your friends you’re right. There is something burning through the dressing room and it’s blue and white disease again.

I was in your area Steve, as it is my 2nd home, so I am kinda your neighbour, haha. I was also at the flea market you are talking about. 🙂
Give back the "C" to J.T.
"cancun" is such a dumb, unoriginal name when there was so much potential from Steve's live quotes. Drew you are an unimaginative dunce.
love the lights out that is good shit that pretty much how everyone feels
The Leafs best shot at the Cup was last year – they went all in and missed. What is happening now is the predictable decline of the team and leading to a rebuild. The huge issue is not that it is occurring, it happens to all teams, but the horrible state of asset management.
Matthews has a chronic injury that will prevent him from being "the best goal scorer in the league" but he still is a very good player. Nylander sometimes plays like he doesn't care but he is a gifted player. Reilly is past his "best before" date but would have value to a team looking for a second pairing offensive defenceman. But what is the problem? They all have NMCs. All three will walk for nothing, or the pitiful return Marner garnered. Without assets to trade the rebuild will rely on draft success which the Buffalo Sabres will testify does not guarantee anything. With they way the Leafs spent the cap space Marner leaving generated, fans should not be confident cap space will produce good players.
"The flu is too scared of nathan mckinnon to infect him" lol
Hey Steve, could you please show that Potvin / Hextall picture ? That’s an amazing item to have 🥊🏒
Another loss, closer to Auston Matthews, requesting, a trade to play for his hometown, Coutrs
Anyone else tired of Matthews and Willy Noshow. The daily half ass effort, that cost games. I am done with both these clowns, ship them out for someone willing to show up.
No.nThe difference is Matthew's needs to the not be captain.Ne
Nylander needs to be captain oh, and by the way.nIt's because Matthews misses his boyfriend.Marner he's all he knows
Put Matthews on ice for the season or trade him. Seriously. Wasted ice time. — wait… can't trade stars, unless he is totally physically destroyed, can't trade him. Perhaps a new coach is time. Either way things are so bad there is no reason to keep Berube. I certainly don't care for him at this point. Season is almost lost at this time.
Marner only has 2 more points than Tavares. Nylander has more points than both. Auston Mathhews is tied for 113th in scoring with Oliver Ekman Larson. Seriously.
LMAO Ai description of this video, Steve talks about a maple leaf loss in Cancun 😂😅🤣
Over the years I have collected Leafs memorabilia, art, sweaters and lots of other stuff all placed in a home theatre room where I watch the Leafs. I have not watched a game in there for quite a while. It’s tough these days. It’s bland. No emotions. Boring.
A struggling expansion team got ripped apart in the third period…This will happen to new NHL franchises…
Matthews hasn't been the same since getting tripped into the boards by his own teammate against Detroit a few years ago.
I legit thought for a second Steve was gonna summon the hockey demons when he turned the lights off, might be necessary too.
AM 34 is being rediculously humiliated and it dont matter…. thats your team Captain…. he's hopping to get 1 or 2 more seasons of this contract before thay call bullshit for non performance.
He is finished.
This channel is the same bullshit every loss. Give your plug and put your one trick pony act out. Your a bender on your best day.
Man, Berube plus his coaching team has to go. Maybe not LaLonde. You need three systems to play 82, soon to be 84, games. One for 2/3rds of the seasons, then one transition, then one for the playoffs. If you play playoff systems in the regular season you’re aiming to kill the spirit of the team asking them to put it all on the line when there’s still fifty games to go – or whatever. You also need to run systems that look at the players first, what can they do well, and what system can be run that will give them the best chance to do what they do while not asking them to batter their bodies night after night. Now I’m not saying don’t be defensively responsible, I’m saying don’t be blind and deaf to the team in front of you. There’s no reason beyond coaching that this is happening. They don’t want to play for him or his style. I’ve cancelled my OVERPRICED Sportsnet subscription this year. See ya next year boys, I’m choosing sanity.
(This comes from a guy who wants the NHL to adopt euro sized rinks, by the way, so take it as you.).
The LFR's are better than the Leafs games
Buddy stop screaming and shrieking at the camera and might get more watchers. It's ridiculous
Hypothetically, what return would you get for the likes of Matthews and Nylander?
Damn, that was next level. I heard some serious truth though. Nice one Steve.
Blow up the team.. rebuild…
What's also amazing are the doors that keep going to games..
LFR’s should be done in the dark from now on 😂
Steve you have run your course. You're nothing but a loudmouth CLOWN. Just another childish media clown. You were great years ago when it sounded like you were actual.y a fan, now you're looking for the all mighty Dollar. Sel. OUT CLOWN.
Steve….34 is not in a slump he's gone now….going into the second season
This video was hilarious. Steve looking for Matthew’s in the dark. 😂😂😂
Did you forget what happened in game 7 last year against Florida…….that was unacceptable man
💯 Steve…..total lies
The princess (#34) scored 60 goals thanks to Mitch marner trade mathewwww
I don't believe Steve is actually mad anymore.
