[Michael Russo] Hughes says he’s “extremely open minded” to stay here long-term because they have an “amazing core,” it’s close to Michigan and for Guerin “sacking” up and trading so many assets for him. He said he will always remember that it was the Wild that stepped up and not other teams.

  1. This reads like direct shade at Detroit and indirect shade at us for not making it happen. If he enjoys playoff runs with the Wild, I wouldn’t be surprised if he re-signs there

  2. Wouldn’t expect him to say anything else on his first day; he’s being gracious to his new team and fans

  3. I know he’s going to butter up everything, because he’s new there.. but I was also of the mindset that he isn’t as “free” as many think he is, and a lot of things can happen between now and when he’s a FA

A little salt in the wound

  4. Yeah, if they’re solid, then it would be hard for him to leave. If anything, their agent will want to move Jack and Luke to Minn.

  5. It’s his first day. What’s he going to say? Minnesota sucks I hate it here I’m never going to sign here? 😂

  6. Fitz really dropped the ball not getting it done when the opening was there, it would not surprise me at all if he stays there long term. Too many think he’s just gonna waltz in here in 2 years when he’s a UFA.

  7. It’s day one with a new team. His agent already is quoted to telling Minn that an extension is not part of the trade. Relax.

  8. All I’m saying is that John Haynes is still their coach, then again we are the post 2012 Devils so Quinn might win a cup there

  9. Remember how many people here said don’t trade for him because we’d get him for free in 2 years? lol

  10. This is a nothingburger until it isn’t. He got traded to a team that mortgaged their future to get him, of course he’s going to say this. Parise used to say all these great things about Jersey before leaving so it’s not unheard of.

Still wish the Devils could have beaten that offer but it is what it is at this point.

  12. Until Minnesota gets bounced again in Round 1.

Look, this team has one more year to prove it after this one. Hischier will be a UFA during the same summer as Quinn. If NJ is still in the shitter, Nico ain’t staying and Quinn ain’t coming. And I’m not sure we should keep anyone else. Another rebuild.

It would be Fitzgerald’s ultimate black mark, and define his sad sack legacy with this franchise.

  13. Watch the actual post game interview, he specifically mentions how he much he respects Guerin for how much of a package he put forward to get him compared to other teams who were less willing to part with assets, and says he will not forget that.

  14. There is one Canadiens fan on that r/hockey post that reallllly doesn’t like the Devils. Like, seemingly 5-10% of the comments belong to him.

I wonder if the Marty years just totally fucked him up?

But yeah, this seems like a nice thing to say about your new team and not much more. I wasn’t expecting him to burn the team that just traded for him.

  15. Well i mean what else is he supposed to say here? If they are contenders and hes happy he will stay. Fitz hamstrung himself with NMC and bad drafting and couldnt make a comparative deal that the Canucks liked. Sucks but we have a gunshy conservative GM that seems to be his own worst enemy.

  16. I really don’t know what we could have offered to beat their offer?

I get people are pissed with Fitz but I don’t know how we would be competitive without further decimating our depth if we have VAN enough for Quinn

  17. Lol we’re not blowing up the team for you buddy. You want to stay away from brothers, that’s your choice.

  18. Of course Quinn will say that. Do you expect him to say anything else on his first day with his new team?

In 18 months he will go to whichever club is the best pay package and overall fit.

The Devils will have the edge if the pay and years are equal.

Bottom line: Fitz made bad contracts in the past that left him unable to compete in Quinn’s trade market.

The Devils did not finish second. The Red Wings finished second. They had more flexibility to offer trade packages than the Devils.

  19. He very well might, but what’s he supposed to say lol?

His first post game interview and he says “I’m not signing in Minnesota” certainly would be more of a shock!

  20. Can we move on from Quinn being on this team now. Hamilton and Palat contracts made this nearly an impossible trade to make happen. I blame Fitz for signing Palat, and not trading Hamilton sooner when he had value still, that is truly what handcuffed this team from making any sort of offer.

With that being said, we don’t need Quinn to win a Stanley Cup. We need Luke and Gritsyuk to take a huge step forward next year. A solid scoring winger. Jack to not be an idiot and hurt himself and a 4th line worth a damn.

Last but not least competent goaltending.

Damn that list is longer than I thought. 😔

  21. This is probably just shit he’s been told to say by his agent but Devils need to get their shit together stat. The Wild and the Canucks are leagues apart. Quinn just left a dumpster fire and went to a top 5 team. Much higher chance he sticks around there than Vancouver.

  22. Hahah that’s a veteran move. Just say whatever it takes to get things to chill.

Until he signs an extension I don’t believe anything
