Welcome to Bruins overtime live presented by biatoyota.com for offers not seen on TV. Visit biatoyota.com. Adam Peller and Billy Jaffy Garvin here with you. Bruins lose to the Wild 62. They finish their road trip with a two-1 record. So you pick up four out of a possible six points. So the road trip overall very successful. Very clunker of a game more so as it went on. Again, I’ll say I echo what the guys talked about. first period was very good. Very, very good. But looking at the trip as a whole, totality I I mean, four out of six. It’s We talked about that. Yeah. A few games ago, right? Get out. Like that’s what we wanted. Get greedy. Get four points out of this trip. After they won the first game and then obviously the second one, they did that. But like I said, first period tonight good. The rest eh, you know, Minnie’s playing with some different energy. Even though they’re missing some guys, GI, they’re playing with energy with with Quinn Hughes trade. Yeah. And I mean, Hughes looked good. I mean, Spurgeon looked good. We talked about that. Brock Faber, three of their their big three on defense looked excellent. And I I thought they just played I mean they’re a good they’re a really good team and so they played well. They clogged the middle. They had great active sticks and they they scored when they had the opportunity. The Bruins had a chance. They had some pushes just couldn’t solve Gustoson. Yeah, the trade went down on Friday night. Hughes made his debut tonight and obviously a lot of energy in that building. a lot of energy in that building overall just because the team’s been playing very well and you add Quinn Hughes to the mix and and that takes it to another level and and and that’s what that’s what’s going to be the case for the team the entire season, right? Because they got uh you know some high-end talent and Hughes just adds they gave him a standing O after warm-up coming off and you know they’re excited there. They you know they’re looking at and they’re saying well we’re in the toughest division in hockey and we just add one of the best if not the best defenseman in the league. You can make the argument, you know, whether it’s him or Mar. Uh, and now there, you know, the fans are looking at and saying, “We’re really good.” Yeah, we got a lot of guys hurt. We take a look at Tim Hughes, just do his thing. He ends up scoring a goal. I actually thought the first two periods, to your point, G Spurgeon and Faber were better than him, which not saying he wasn’t good, it’s just they were even that much more noticeable. And then the third period, he’s like, “Hold on a second. Hold my beer for a second. I go out there and dance around.” He ends up scoring this goal. So, a ton of energy, a great vibe there. And the state of hockey is in a good state of mind right now. They are. And it you could see in the third period especially, they started moving. I mean, he’s so agile. He’s shifty. And you see, I mean, Capri stuff, they didn’t connect on a drop pass, but some of the movement they started to have. You could sense the building get excited for what they get to watch coming up. Yeah. And what they’re going to have moving forward. And I mean, that’s just one game, right? And get a couple more games under his belt. Uh we’ll see how things play out. Meanwhile, uh, our Subaru star of the game brought to you by Subaru of New England, Carell Capri off. As you take a look at the career numbers against the Bruins, now eight goals in six games. He’s got 20 goals now on the year. So, his sixth NHL season, he scored 20 goals in each of those six season, at least 20 goals. Uh, this is the highest paid player in the National Hockey League. This is a a guy with a a load of talent. We saw it on display at times tonight. Yes, at times I think might be the key word. It was hard to notice in the beginning of the game, but he settled in and definitely made a mark on the score sheet. And here’s a rush. His first goal of the game. I mean, a kind of a broken play. It looked like it was almost a block shot, missed the net, but that carum off the backboard right to his backhand. He’s able to roof it and snipe over Swayman. But I mean, the guy like what thing I respect about is him is his compete level. He is so driven to succeed and excel. And here’s a look at his last goal where they just dish it. He’s coming on for the delayed penalty. The extra attacker comes. I mean, he just picks his corner perfectly. Yeah. I And I I think he gets a little help. There’s a perhaps a ruined stick defender and and it it it rockets up. But I couldn’t agree with you more, Gi. It’s a good point about his compete level. He’s a guy that he just doesn’t float around and just, you know, he will put his nose behind the shot. He’s got a wicked shot, too. He absolutely does. And I He thinks the game at such a high level. I I mean, when Hughes gets used to playing with a guy like that, and Brick alluded to it, the forwards. I mean, Balding and Hugh and and uh and Capri off are two very smart players. Throwing Zukarelloo, too. He is incredibly bright, right? Little guy, but big hockey mind. That’s a pretty dynamic group of of high IQ hockey players playing on that team. uh 38th multi-goal effort for Kel Capri off in his career. That’s second in franchise history, trailing only Marian GabriCick in that category. So, he continues to climb uh the rankings in franchise history. Meanwhile, you know, we talked about the Bruins in the first period. They’re down one- nothing after one, but they did have some chances and you thought maybe moving forward uh they’d be able to capitalize. Just didn’t materialize. No, it didn’t. The way that they moved in the first, we showed breakouts. We showed neutral zone speed from those breakouts. Gustoson was very good in the first period and they if they had scored one goal early in the second when both shots went blocker side on on Gustoson you know we can play the game right GI maybe who knows could have been a different game. It would have felt at least like they had a chance for because once it was three nothing that was that was it when they did have a few of these goals. We’re even shown the opportunities after and the again the the opportunities were slim. I mean that one didn’t even hit the net but it was in prime spot and some of these movements. I love how geeky after he gets a shot blocked hurt his foot comes back in the game he explodes down the wall and is able to get a get a shot on net. But um again I I look at that and I see a lot of perimeter shots. I don’t see too many great A scoring chances where and that’s kind of what we’ve been talking about. Uh Minnesota was able to just clog the middle and play really well and um tie up net front. Yeah, we talked about how good Minnesota has been really since November 1st when you look at the numbers in terms of goals against average when the goalies have been playing well, but team defense tonight was was really good as well for them. Oh yeah, it they they they backtrack well. They reset well too in their own zone. You know, they they make a they build a a perimeter. so to speak. They build defense and I thought their interior sticks were were excellent. Uh meanwhile, you know, we talked about the four lines mixing up those tonight. You had the Victor Arbitson injury. So, you get David Poshnock back on that top line. So, Alex Steves actually moved down to the third line because Marus Nadinov moved off up to the second line and and Steves ends up getting a goal. And again, you know, it didn’t factor in any way into the outcome of the game, but for a guy like Alex Steves, a young player, uh, you know, a player that, you know, doesn’t have a lot of NHL experience, this is it’s always good to see the puck come in. I mean, absolutely. He comes in, there’s a battle net front, which we talked about. They’re in good position, but earlier in the game, Jano kind of moved away out of that slot. This is an example of um Steves coming into that high danger area and being able to like be rewarded as he cleans up a rebound, buries it. Um and, you know, as you mentioned, like kind of moving her up and down the lineup, being consistent and showing up and finding the back of the net. You can’t go wrong with that. Yeah. And a guy that probably always feels like, you know, he’s fighting for his job to just stay in the league, right? And and to see, you know, that is positive. Absolutely. Well, and that’s the kind of message that you send to the coaches and the management is that, you know, you’re in the game. I mean, he will not he cannot afford to be out of it and he’s going to work his his backside off. He had a bunch of hits in this game as well. He has some history in in Minnesota, too. So, for him getting back there and being able to, you know, score a goal there. Um, so it’s good. No, it’s it’s a find a positive type of moment in a game in the third period. got away from the Bruins and gas up the plane and get the heck out of there. Yeah. Time to go home. Be home for a while. Let’s wrap it up. Exactly.

The Bruins end their road trip with a loss in Minnesota. Adam, Billy, and Gigi break down the game on Bruins Overtime Live.
