1 yr 10MM seems like a reasonably easy offer to beat for a 2.7 WAR player. Oh well
To the best of my recollection, I didn’t hear his name associated with the Bucs. Knowing how much this crack PR staff really likes to get credit for all the hard work BC is doing <sarcasm>, you would think we would know, had he been on their target list.
That said, a more general question I was thinking about: why would ANY FA sign here? Look at our track record with yearly signings… we sign and trade (said signings) almost 100%. No one survives any off-season here (also because we only traditionally sign 1 yr contracts) but our role in mlb is as a placeholder until a contending team experiences injury or establishes a developing need- at which time the pirates come to the rescue with their quad A solution. It’s really pathetic, but more importantly… why would ANY FA believe that
the organization will commit back to them and have it be seen through to the end? It’s a broken trust. Really really unfortunate that they’ve created this undeniable culture of distrust…and also if I were a FA dealing with this pile of liars, I wouldn’t sign here either. The track record is out there. A tiger never sheds its stripes.
I guess the nice thing about having only two players above a .700 OPS last year is that we can still keep on going down the list of FAs and still find potential upgrades.
They do need to spend some money . Just to get it to last year’s level. That’s the minimum.
Also he’s 33 and posted a sub 700 ops. That’s lower than Cutch. His ops was 665. That’s horrible.
Glad they passed.
A positive slant on it is that “aging slugger two seasons into a rapid decline on a 1-year prove it deal” is what the Pirates do every year. An MLB team with only ~$70M on the books for next year had damned well better be working on better additions than Adolis Garcia.
But those of us who’ve been on this ride before can feel the mounting dread of Ronny Simon, Tsung-Che Cheng, or whatever other infielders who can’t hit are in the ballpark that day getting corner outfield starts with Paul Skenes on the mound.
I don’t care that Adolis Garcia isn’t a Pirate but would be great to do…something!
Not necessarily complaining we missed him, but what is the goal this offseason? We want to trade Keller for….what? We haven’t signed anyone and Cutch and Pham are gone so our payroll is already lower than last season. We trade Keller to get a lower payroll and then…..just play with a $70 million payroll again?
Nutting sucks.
Look, I know some of you want to spend just to spend but Garcia fucking blows
Good. We need a proven hitter in good form, not a flyer because we are, essentially, cheap.
Bader is still the OF I want, so I’m okay with this
Nooo, not the Phillies
It was so funny seeing all those people spamming the FA posts with “guys it’s gonna happen” or “we have to spend now”. We all knew that shit wouldn’t happen. I’d love to be wrong but I haven’t been wrong since Francisco Liriano or Russel Martin
When are you guys going to realize they aren’t signing anyone significant and they never were
Trading for Robert doesn’t look half bad now.
The Yankees have been fielding calls on Chisolm. But BC dealing with Cashman…is not a good idea.
For anyone Brest still thinks the pirates give a shit. Good luck with that.
