THE HERD | Colin Cowherd WAS RIGHT, C.J. Stroud Is A FRANCHISE QB With Houston Texans | NFL

Colin was right. CJ Strad, I keep hearing, “Wow, sophomore slump.” Listen, dude throws one of the prettiest balls in the league. If you give him a little time, he’s money. I will defend CJ Strad. He wants to throw from the pocket. He’s good enough moving. Nico Collison, he’s got his number one receiver in the last since week four. 13 touchdowns, three picks with a very inconsistent run game. They’ve been, you know, hit and miss. They’ve had injuries around him. CJ Strad, I’ll defend him. That’s a franchise quarterback. He’ll run if he has to, but he’s developed a really keen sense of the pocket. Where Colin was right, where Colin was wrong. Yeah, I am so proud of this Houston Texans team and CJ Stra, do we need to give them all the credit in the world. All the credit in the world. We overinflate accomplishments from the Kansas City Chiefs and Mahomes. Uh Tom Brady and the Patriots, Josh Allen. Again, using quarterbacks that like you guys know how I feel about them, especially Josh Allen. Like we overinflate a lot of times some of the accomplishments and some of the things that some of these have done. and we underd discuss and undervalue what the Texans have been able to do, the resilience and the and and and the the the adversity that this team has had to had to overcome. And I and I just think it’s absolutely amazing. And before I go any deeper, please Houston Texans fans, do not forget to subscribe and watch the full length of this video as it is with a shadow of a doubt the best possible way to support the growth of this channel so I can keep making the best Houston Texans content that I can. Um, when you guys do that, views and subscribers go through the roof. And I can’t emphasize this enough. It’s not just about chasing views. It’s not just about chasing subscribers. Yeah, I want views. Yeah, I want subscribers. No doubt. But it’s about making content that people genuinely want to watch, that they want to be part of, that they want to discuss. So we can make the best possible Houston Texans content. And unfortunately, the Texans are definitely a team where I can make a video and five people watch it or 10,000 people watch it. It’s so hit or miss. And I would just love to be able to more reliably just know, okay, I’m going to make a text in this video now and make a video that people want to watch, that people want to interact with. So, please don’t forget to subscribe and watch the full length video. And now I’m about to go on a rant. So, buckle up. Buckle up because I have not wavered in defending CJ Strad. I’m not so sure Khan Coward can do where Colin was right about CJ Strad. I have not wavered. And this is coming from the guy who thought that CJ Strad I my this was my preseason last year of 2024 saying CJ Strad MVP candidate etc etc the floor AFC championship game. And then going into this season I said I don’t like the moves that they’re making. I I I don’t really feel confident in the Houston Texans right now. But it wasn’t because of CJ Stout. And I kept saying CJ Stroud is more of a victim. That’s what I kept saying. CJ Stroud is a victim. He is a victim. He is a victim. I did not waver on that. And it drove me insane. It drove me absolutely positively insane that he became a meme that people made fun of him for being supportive of Caleb Williams that they made fun of him and especially Nick kept using, oh, ever since that moment, look at his stats and blah blah blah blah blah. And it drove me insane. It really did because like all I hear is about how we want to live in a in a in a more kind and open and kumbaya world and give peace a chance and you know we’re all equal and this and that and then like we now have a quarterback CJ be supportive of another quarterback and be like hey man like you know keep going you got this let’s go and we want to make fun of him for it like it’s insane and I was watching all the games last uh you know on Sunday and I unless I misheard something I’m pretty sure It was the the Bears versus the Cleveland Browns. Maybe I’m wrong, but I thought I heard them say that it was CJ Stra that Caleb Williams was inspired by CJ Strad’s excitement over making routine plays. That that is something that Caleb learned. Maybe I misheard it. I don’t know. I I it was not it was not a game that I was in a position to be able to go back and and listen to, unfortunately. Like that’s what I thought I heard. Maybe I’m wrong, but CJ Strad inspired someone. Okay, don’t know what who it was. Uh, and so seeing what CJ and this team was able to do, I mean, this team looked like they were done at multiple phases of this season, not just one, not just the beginning, but then the middle, like multiple times, you’re just like, “Ah, this is just not their year, man.” You really are just like, “Ah, you know what? Just keep losing. It’s better off.” Yeah, it’s a bummer, but just just keep losing. Get that first or second pick and finally get an O line that you can rely on. Get some dudes. Like, let’s let let you know it it’s time. And I was so sick and tired of everyone constantly using CJ Stout as this reference point of a sophomore slump. Anytime you spoke highly about a quarterback, well, just wait until next year. What about CJ? What about CJ? And it’s like, what about CJ? He was in his second year and he’s getting decimated. He’s got no O line. All of his receivers are getting crushed. And we saw what Pat what happened to Patrick Mahomes when he doesn’t have an O line. When he has no receiver, don’t look good. Doesn’t look good for anyone, especially a secondyear quarterback who’s still trying to figure out how to play. Then his coordinator gets fired. And now you’re in year three. You’re still dealing with offensive line issues. you’re dealing with coaching issues, like you’re still dealing with a lot on your plate and now it’s your third year coming off a second year that it’s not like there was plenty of room for growth and development. So, in a lot of ways, it’s like, yeah, he’s a junior, but like he’s, you know, he missed a bunch of school and he had terrible teachers and they were teaching him the wrong subjects. And it’s just like, but he’s a junior. It’s like, yeah, but like I don’t think he’s actually really ready for the SATs right now. He’s not actually learning the curriculum and he’s getting by on just sheer talent, on sheer intelligence. And it’s like that’s what CJ Strat has been kind of working off of. And when you support him, he can be great. He can be awesome. He can make huge plays. I mean, yeah. I I just CJ Stout and the Houston Texans just deserve just heaps and heaps and heaps of praise. No question about it. And because they’re a smaller market, because they’re just not as popular, we talk about too many other teams rather than celebrating what the Houston Texans have been able to accomplish, what they’ve been able to do. And we always also hyperfocus a lot on teams that are like 13 and two or something, you know, 14-1. And I get it. They’re winning. That’s great and all that, but like what the Texans have been able to do is amazing, remarkable, and awesome. Amazing. Remarkable. Awesome. Fantastic. Incredible. Just keep using all the the positive words. You can’t run out. And it just it just needs to be said as loud as you possibly can. It is so wildly impressive and it’s not a fluke. And when you support CJ Strad, he is an elite playmaker from the pocket. That is who he is as a quarterback. Stop making these crazy scramble throws on the run like we saw Caleb do and whatnot. He is an elite playmaker from the pocket. If anything, it’s it’s more closer to to the the playmaking abilities of like a Stafford or a Burrow rather than say like a Momes or something. So, if you can give him time in the pocket to wheel and deal, if you can give him the receivers, if you can give him the coach, the play caller, then CJ Strad can deliver. And we know Demo can deliver that defense. And when you put them together, what do you got? Oh, that’s right. A pretty special team. But those are just my thoughts. I’d absolutely love to hear yours. What do you guys all think about CJ Stout and the Houston Texans? Did you ever waver on their belief? Did you ever doubt them? Did you ever doubt CJ? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below. I read every single comments whether you agree with me or disagree with me. Either way, let’s get in some discussions. Let’s get in some fights. But ultimately, let’s just have some fun. And as I said, please do consider subscribing. We really are building an amazing community here and I’d absolutely love to see you part of it. I want to build something that we all generally feel connected to, something that we’re really excited to be part of. I think we’re well on our way to doing it. Please don’t forget to give this video a thumbs up as it really does help the visibility and the algorithm. Thank you so much. See you next time.

  1. Thank you for explaining to all these bandwagon fans and cj stroud haters the truth about his slump .. I’m a die hard Texans fan and I always believe in cj and not everything is his fault .. plus this year he had a new OC everyone assumes everything should go perfect at the beginning

  2. One thing people always tend to over look about CJ is he’s a lot younger than people think , he’s actually well ahead of the curve than a lot of these younger QBs and it absolutely blows my mind that people just can’t see that 😂😂

  3. Bro , u are off base- he’s not dealing with Oline issues- the reason he’s doing better is nearly completely due to the Oline finally doing what they are supposed to do

  4. I fully believe if the Broncos or Patriots had our same schedule they have an equal or worse record as the Texans! Going on about how you talked about always discussing 13-2, 12-3 teams! Also a huge C.J supporter, he is our guy!

  5. I never switched up on him, anyone who actually watched the texans play knew the o-line and playcalling were the biggest issues, any game he's gotten consistent protection this year he's been phenomenal

  6. As a fellow Texans podcaster, I had to temper my initial enthusiasm from CJ’s 23 season. I learned that even though I love Stroud, I had to be honest and take him off that pedestal. 24 he stopped throwing the ball away, missed check downs and wasn’t patient enough to pick when he threw deep. The changes I have seen in him this year lead me to believe he is ready to lead this team to a Super Bowl. Of late he has shown a better sideline demeanor and posture. He has been very good progressing through his reads. He has started stepping into the pocket and minimized sack yards lost. While Nick Caley isn’t perfect, I do believe he has helped CJ learn to set up defenses for those deep throws, and he doesn’t seem to have the same issues with 2 high safety looks.

  7. Yk ball brother. “He’s been a victim” is the truest thing I’ve heard in a while regarding his situation 💯 he’s had horrible coaching offensively and horrible offense line play and yet still saves butts at times and makes plays out of nothing. If he had the colts o line rn and a competent OC we’d be having MVP talks about him right now

  8. Dude he had one good game against the Cards.. He needs to show out against a real competitive team like the pats or Denver. CJ played horrible the first half of the season lets be real..

  9. Someone under discussed, Dalton Shultz was a TENTPOLE of our offense in yesterdays game , def helped us maintain our momentum through the middle quarters. Great job of everybody really.

  10. CJ Stroud always had command of the pocket. Besides his ball placement that was one of the positive aspects of his game sports analysts talked about when he was coming out of Ohio State. Matter of fact, a lot of analyst were saying he was the most pro ready QB and they were right. This coming from a Buckeye.
    Go Bucks 🏆🍾

  11. We see what he can do when he has time in the pocket, but he can also get out and make some plays outside the pocket. He's developing nicely, IMO. If this o-line can continue to improve then the Texans are gonna a nightmare for the rest of the season.

  12. As a Texans fan I knew he was our franchise QB. I was hoping when we drafted him that we would hire an experienced OC for his pro development. IMO hiring two rookie OC for a guy still on his rookie contract is not helping him as much. I think his development will take longer than usual but he’ll get there because he has the intangibles that makes you a franchise QB that can take your team to the promise land
