FOX Sports’ Mark Schlereth: Why the Broncos & Jaguars are Rolling Right Now | The Rich Eisen Show
Packers and Broncos viewed as a measuring stick game for both teams. Now that we uh can observe the measuring stick and see where the viscosity landed, what do you got for me on the Broncos off of that game reading the measuring stick, Mark? >> You know, interestingly enough, Rich, if you go through the Broncos season, um they really offensively they led the league in three and outs. Uh they were second in the league in three and outs going into the last weekend, but most of the season they led the league in three and outs. They really had only put together a few quarters of really good offensive football and they happened to be in the fourth quarter coming back from the Giants, come back against the Philadelphia Eagles. Um they had one really good game against the Cowboys where they really orchestrated. But these last three or four weeks, man, they've been the picture of efficiency against the Raiders a couple weeks ago. They had two 14 play drives, one 19 play drive that last over 10 minutes. And then the one kind of criticism, well, a Bo hasn't really been accurate down the football field. Well, now you couple that last week against a Green Bay defense that's really good where not only were they able to possess the ball, be able to score in the red zone, but Bo made some big throws. That fourth down and three to Courtland Sutton down the sideline was a big time throw. uh he's really really started to play well. Less frenetic in the pocket, really good about escaping, still getting the ball down the football field. Um you know, the Broncos all of a sudden have become a a complete football team in the last couple of weeks where this offense is starting to match what that defense did early in the season, keeping them in games, and they're a dangerous football team in the AFC right now. Well, what what's the difference between playing a game like that and then the one that's coming up for them where they are the measuring stick for another team, right? Jacksonville comes in. You've called some Jacksonville games. I called one. They don't look anything like the team that I saw in London right now. They are balling out. They are feeling confident. They are, I think, an extension of the attitude of their head coach right now, which is what, you know, is a sign of a positive >> result in the NFL. What do you make of Jacksonville? You also just saw Houston, too, brother. >> Yeah. Yeah. You know, interestingly enough, Liam Cohen is that guy, you know, that very much like Shawn Peyton, in that he doesn't really care what you think, Rich. He doesn't care what I think. Um, and he doesn't care what anybody else thinks either, man. he is going to do what he he does and he's not afraid to say something that, you know, can be misconstrued. He's not afraid to say something that might get under your skin. Um he's very honest with his guys and and I think one of the things, you know, this is a Shawn Payeyton thing, but I think it goes to Liam Cohen, it goes to some of the really good coaches in this league. Like I think I called a a Saints game a couple years ago right after Shawn Payeyton walked away and went to broadcasting for a year and a long-term employee over at the Saints told me, "Hey man, the issue with this football team is Shawn Peyton walked out of the building and the fear walked out with him. The fear the coaching staff had, the fear the players had." And it's not just fear like I'm scared. There's a biblical sense to the word fear as well. The biblical sense of fear is uh awesome reverence or respect, right? You've got to have that type of fear for your coach. Then there's also the fear of that guy will fire my ass if I don't get my block, right? Like that's that type of fear is also important. And I think the great coaches, you know, combine those things where they can really get after your butt, but they also demand respect and they also develop relationships. And I think Liam Cohen's that way. I think Shawn Peyton's that way. You mentioned the Houston Texans. Uh their head coach is that way. Demo Ryan is incredible that way. So, those guys really have a sense of how to get the best out of their players. And one thing Liam Cohen um and and the reason he got the job talking to Tony Belli and talking to you know the the the the principles of that organization is because he didn't sell them on hey man I'm going to develop the quarterback and I'm going to you know we're going to throw the ball around the yard and we're going to do this. He he sold himself on we are going to run the football. Everything that we do is going to be based off our running game and and everything fits off the way we run the football. And that's what sold the Jacksonville Jaguars on Liam Cohen and why he's the head coach of the Jags right now. >> Hey, you made it all the way to the end. Thanks for that. I’ll never forget that playoff game back in 97. Broke my heart when the jags came to mile high and took us out. I hope our boys go into this game with that same fire they had against the packers. Go Broncos
Mark Schlereth did commentary for two jags games this year and was the most biased commentator I’ve ever seen.
This is going to be an exciting game! Go Jags!
I Can't Stand Mark
He The King Of Back Hand Compliments
We The Best And F The Rest
There is a reason why Mark is not commentating Jags games. He shts on the jags especially Trevor and glazes who ever the opposing team is. He’s no where near the Tom Brady Dan Orlovsky Tony Romo Kirk Herbstreit Collinsworth Troy Aikman Rich Eisen JJWATT!!!!! HE IS TERRIBLE!!!!
Jags fans crack me up, I've essentially seen them crying in every comment section of every video since Sunday
1. Either because people trust the Texans more
2. People don't believe they are a Top 5 NFL team
3. CRYING that people are picking the Broncos to beat the Jags in Denver 😂
This is a lie. Boselli said on camera in many interviews the one thing that Liam Coen impressed Boselli and Shad Khan was building THE OFFENSIVE LINE. Not the fckin running game that’s just comes with having an o line.
I'm A Broncos fan and they almost never show the Jaguars in my market (Texas). I know the Jags are rolling right now, though.
There's one thing our teams have in common. The sports media doesn't respect either team. It's such a drag. I know our young quarterback has had his struggles, but even when he struggled, he led them to wins. It's not easy to have 12 wins as a second year quarterback. And yes, our defense rocks, but if Bo couldn't help us score when it counts, then we wouldn't win. Some criticism is valid. I don't deny that. But they pile on whenever he struggles.
And honestly, it's not all that unusual for a second year quarterback to struggle, so why does he get so much grief? Some grief should come his way, but it goes overboard.
They always knock him while they give excessive praise to just about everyone else. Every now and then, they might say Bo played well, then they'll move on to someone else.
That's our Broncos fan experience with the national sports media.
Why do they knock the Jags? What's the story?
From where I sit, they're doing really well.
Fantasy playoffs on the line Trev!
I trusted you for the whole year, don't let me down now!
Bring on the Jag-wads
Let's Bo Broncos
Why is it that whenever the media brings up the Jags they toss the Texans in there for good measure? It's ok to just talk about the Jags without following it up with Texans talk.
The Broncos fans who know, give Jags credit.
This season is about peaking at the right time…Sean isn't going to put his best stuff on tape to be picked apart by opponents
Mark was a champion with the broncos and people ask why he’s biased lmao
Denver limped away from a dog fight with the jets by 2 points GTFOH jags gonna slaughter that azz we gonna see who the real AFC juggernaut is!!!
If Sean Payton is will to take a cap hit of 80 million just to cut Russ, you think he will be scare to cut anyone else.
This is “Our House”
Go Broncos🫡
Sean should play the loss to Jacksonville in ‘97 to keep our guy focused
Bro…. Go look at the jags last 5 opponents🙂
I absolutely believe the Jaguars can win this game, but this is one of those “believe it when I see it” ones. Like the Chiefs, 49ers games earlier this year, most everyone is going to pick the Broncos. Jags gotta go earn this one, but you know what? So does Denver. Even with that fat win streak they don’t exactly look like world beaters.
This would’ve interesting. Liam Coen play calling and play designs have been stressing defense out. And now that we have the deep ball action going, teams don’t what to defend. We’ve played the #1 defense in the NFL twice and should’ve won both games. (that collapse against the texans lives rent free in our heads) Definately going to bean interesting game.
Any Broncos fan who was around in 1997 remembers when the Jags came into Mile High and beat my 13-3 Broncos 30-27 and knocked them out of the playoffs. I will NEVER forget that game. I know, different team, different era, different everything but the Jags playing good always bothers me.😂😂 Stay focused Denver Sunday is going to be one hell of a game.
Go Broncos!!
Broncos are 12 and 2 why do we care about the 10 and 4 jaguars we are going to handle every one and win the super bowl
i hope a repeat of 97 playoff game. EVERYONE talking broncos WE ALL know what happened in 97 and I believe it's going to happen again!!! GO JAGS!! LOL Denver i know it still hurts to this day back in 97 when the JAGS pissed on your field!
The fact that this game wasn’t flexed is criminal
