Brodie’s Breakdown vs TOR (12/11)
Brody Brazil here to recap game 32 on the season. The Sharks are four tilts in to this five-game swing and what ties for one of their longest scheduled roies of the season. So far, a mix of playing well and getting results, playing well and not getting results. And then last game against the Flyers, that 4-1 loss that this team was not happy with. Tonight in Toronto, sweet redemption in overtime. Sharks games in to0 always mean added storylines like this year the return of Ryan Reeves after the Leafs traded him away for Henry Thun this past summer. Revo always tarps off. He's been such a great veteran addition in this San Jose room. Tyler Tofoley a product of the Scarboro district of Toronto. Previously played for the Canucks, Habs, Flames, and Jets all north of the border but never for the Leafs. And then Mlin Celebrini a favorite to make the team Canada Olympic roster. Certainly, he's been working towards that, but not thinking about it and also hearing all about it on this trip to Toronto. First period, the Sharks with the push out of their own end. Kurishv and Skinner helped tide Deandria, who's already on his horse, kind of put Morgan Riley in this situation where he has to take that tripping penalty. The officials award Deli with a penalty shot. And up to this point, the Sharks had a good start to the game, held their own in the first 10 minutes, and it would have been nice to go up one- nothing after drawing this penalty. But Dandria can't beat Dennis Hildebe, who I kid you not, stands 67. And then exactly almost 3 minutes later, the Leafs counter with their own scoring play. William Knander goes behind the cage to put on a little skating and puck handling exhibition that left Jake McCabe open to jump in from the point. His blast is tipped in front by Dakota Joshua. It's his fifth on the season and we'll show it to you one more time from a little bit of a wider view. One- nothing is the Leafs lead after one period. We mentioned some of the individual storylines for the Sharks players with this game in Toronto. None were more personal than Sam Dickinson. The rookie Dman was born there 19 years ago, now playing there for the very first time. and he had somewhere north of 80 family members and friends in attendance for [snorts] this one. >> I know the Dickinson family and friends uh they're quite a large contingent today. Um what does that mean to you with all these people coming to cheer you on? >> It's everything. Um you know, I wouldn't be here without uh without uh any of them. So, I mean uh so grateful that they're all here. Um you know, it's it's cool to be playing in my hometown. Uh you know, especially in the in a market like this. So, um you know, just couldn't be more grateful that they're all here. and uh you know really special to share this with them. >> Second period now and watch this. >> San Jose number 71 minor penalty hook. >> Oh that's can't be this can't be it. This cannot be it. >> That was it. Looked like a stick check. >> It just looked like a stick check. It's >> 1404 time of the minor penalty to Cabbrini. And if you're bewildered. So are we. And can you imagine what Mlin's thinking? >> And so you probably already know how this goes. 71 in the box, two minutes for hooking. Toronto's power play clicking at less than 14% this season. Knander with a filthy pass through the slot. It's the San Ramon native Austin Matthews there on the back doorstep for the one-time. Rough way for the Sharks to trail two nothing. Now, one of the most solid additions for the Sharks this past summer was defenseman Dmitri Orof. He signed a two-year deal in San Jose and almost instantly helped this team improve its play without the puck. But there was also something noteworthy about Orlav's statline so far. Time on ice leader, check. Played in every game so far, check. 16 helpers this year and no goals. Wait, is that true? It was true and it's about to change. Simple play here as John Clingberg goes DD. Or slides in and buries it. We got to rewind the tape here just a little bit and show you the great effort by Alex Wenberg to hang on to this puck. Have some patience to send it back up to the point that allowed everything to fall into place here. It's Orlov's first of the season and it's 2-1. Third period now. Same score, 2-1. New frustration. Here's Godad for Barkley Goodro. REEVES GOES TO THE NET AND SCORES. IT'S REVO TIME IN TORONTO AS THE SHARKS TIE THE GAME. >> Was challenging the play to see if it was offside prior to the goal. >> You see it right here in the middle. He has control of the puck now. He's going to have control and he backs into the zone. This is quick here >> after coach's challenge determined that the play was offside. We have no goal. >> Whether a Reeves goal or a good drill goal would have been a great goal, but it's disallowed on the zone entry. Not a two- two game. Instead, the Sharks down by one, entering the final stretch of this contest until literally the final few minutes and opportunities. We're inside 90 seconds left of regulation and we're six on five with Nadulkovich pulled. It was Wenberg to Cabbraney who fed it to John Clingberg. Just an easy looking shot with a lot of help from Wenberg who was screening out in front. And all of a sudden, after what felt like an uphill battle most of the night, regulation ends. Even after 60 minutes, we're tied at two. And so we go to overtime. And sometimes when it's your night, it's just your night. Alex Wenberg had the secondary helper on each of those regulation goals. And what a reward he gets in bonus hockey. It's Ecklund and Wenberg on a twoon-one here. The initial shot by Ecklund produces a juicy chance for Wenberg. He couldn't get a stick on at first, so he uses his skate to get the puck to his stick blade and buries it. And the night is over. Now, Toronto actually went back to challenge this goal, not so much for the kick, but to make sure that the play was on side. The situation room ruled that it was. And how about that? The Sharks beat the Leafs 3-2 in overtime. Good for the Sharks to get both the effort and result tonight. Something we know doesn't always go handinand in this league lately. The Sharks next tilt is Saturday in Pittsburgh. We will see you then.

what a game! so happy to finally see us get a 6 on 5 tying goal! Klingberg is looking better on the offensive side of things too! huge W
On w thing my Sharks and Frost have in common whenever they play T.O it’s always eventful
Klingberg needs an extension!
First this, and then time to watch Dangle whine and cry.
I’ll keep saying it, we appreciate the quick turnaround time on these! This is definitely my preferred postgame breakdown
man sad that the leafs lost but I think the sharks played well. Good win guys
Good game
Yes these are a go to for after the game
Forgot to mention that Henry Thrun was actually starting in his first game as a Maple leaf.
No two or fewer Brodie?
TWO OR FEWER!
That penalty against Celebrini may have been the softest call I have ever seen.
Thanks Brodie!
The Sharks beat the Leafs, AND the refs.
1:30 Oh my
