BREAKING NEWS: SF Giants Sign Adrian Houser & Jason Foley | What’s NEXT?!
Hey, what's up Giants fans? Dan Coach Millio here with NorCal Sports Network with some breaking news. The Giants have signed three pitchers here this afternoon and we're going to break it all down for you what they're doing and it looks like they're trying to shore up their pitching staff for the 2026 season. Before we get into this video, let me thank our sponsor. That would be Chapman Law Group. Give Chapman Law Group a call. 4156139483 for all your legal needs. Uh today's moves, okay? Uh not earthshattering. Um, you know, this isn't uh a move that's going to grab national headlines, but it does matter as the roster is taking shape for the 26th season. The Giants have signed right-handed starter Adrien Howser, and he was one of the guys that uh to a major league contract. He's one of the guys that I thought the Giants might go after. Adrien Howser uh two-year deal, $22 million with a club option for a third year. So about 11 million a year. Uh pretty good offer there. No u qualifying offer attached to Hower, which is a big deal. The Giants don't give up any draft capital or lose any international money. So Adrien Howser is uh going to be a San Francisco Giants starting pitcher. Probably he'll fit into a number four right in that range. Uh we'll go over him. Uh let's cover the other two moves that the Giants made. Jason Foley, a reliever formerly with the Detroit Tigers, was uh down in the minors all last year, but in 2024, Foley had a pretty good season as the Tigers closer. Had a uh had 28 saves and had an erra plus of 132. So, we'll get into that as well. And then they also signed former Giants pitcher Gregory Santos. uh Gregory Santos, if he can put it together, he's got electrifying stuff and um he could fit somewhere in that middle of the bullpin. So, let's break it all down here. First of all, Adrien Hower, he's the key signing. Uh this is the most impactful in my opinion of of the three. He's a right-handed starter with significant big league experience. Most notably [clears throat] last year he was with the White Socks and then was traded to Tampa Bay. Uh you know, he's not an ace. He's not here to, you know, uh compete for the number one or two spot, but he's a middle of the rotation guy. All right. He's got some durability innings. Uh he's got a ground ball profile, which is very important. what the Giants want. They want that especially at home at Oracle Park. Um he's got, you know, as I mentioned, big league experience. Let me pull up Hower here and I'll pull up his stats on the screen and we'll take a look at those together. Okay, so you see last year he pitched a combined 125 innings with the White Socks and Tampa Bay. Uh he had a pretty good erra with the White Socks, 2.1, and he made 11 uh starts. Um he threw 68 and 2/3 innings with the White Sox, only gave up 62 hits. Uh strikeouts, not a big strikeout guy. um his biggest innings pitched in one season, which is important, is 142 and a3, and that was in 21 with the Brewers. You know, he's mainly came up with Milwaukee. Uh spent his first uh seven years or so with the Brewers and then went to the Mets in 24 and then last year he was with the White Sox and again with the Tampa Bay. Tampa Bay, he didn't fare all that well. Had 10 starts, had a 4.79 ERA, 56 and a third innings, gave up 60 hits with uh 45 strikeouts. So, a little less than a strikeout per inning over nine. Uh he's at 7.1 strikeouts on his career. Um his career erra is 4.06. Again, the Giants are looking for arms that are going to eat up innings. They're trying to find arms that are not costly. And you know, this is a move that uh I think makes some sense. It's again, it's not an earthshattering move as we mentioned, but uh overall, you know, he could fit in as a long reliever if needed if the Giants add more pitching. I think the biggest thing is he heavy sinker usage. Um, and that's fits in what the Giants are trying to do, build their defense, their infield defense. You know, they're very solid on the left side with Chapman and Adamus. the right side. Looks like it'll be Devers at first and Casey Schmidt at second. So, this is a a move, you know, it's a floor raiser move. It's not flashy, but I think it's a smart move on the part of the Giants, especially what they're trying to do is, you know, they're not giving out long-term contracts to pitching. So, this tells us where they're looking at. Now, now let's get into Jason Foley because, um, he was with in the minors all of last year with Detroit. Detroit ended up, you know, going with Will Vest as their closer and Tommy Canaly as their setup man, and they're uh changing that all around with over in Detroit by adding uh Kenley Jansen and resigning Jason or or Kyle Finnegan. And I believe they still have Will Vest if I'm not mistaken, the Tigers. But, uh, what stands out about Foley is he's got a power arm, very strong velocity, strong guy, uh, has the ability to induce weak contact. He's got experience pitching and leverage spots. He's probably going to compete for that closer spot. He was again the Tigers closer in 2024 when they went all the way to the playoffs. Um, so another right-handed option for the bullpin. Uh, you know, Giants had a very inconsistent bullpen, especially after they traded Rogers and Dval. Um, so I think this is a good move if if he can have a bounceback year. Jason Foley, let me pull up Jason Foley's numbers here from u baseball reference and we'll take a look here. You know, he's he's only 28 or 29 years of age. I think he's going to be 30 in uh yeah, he's already 30 now. So, he just turned 30 in November. So, he'll be 30 all of next year. Good age. Uh he's got four years of big league experience. Um an excellent erra plus over his career. It's 132. Uh that is right in line. When you look at erra plus, that's that's pretty solid. That's That's really solid. 100 is league average. So, um, let me pull up some more of Jason Foley. Let's take a look. You know, we didn't hear much from him last year because he was down in the minors. He got uh right before the season started. The Tigers surprisingly uh basically cut him and sent him and he and they never really used him last year. Let me pull up the miners stats for uh 25 here and see what he did last year. Okay, so 25. Let's see. All right, here we go. He pitched in AAA all of last year, but he did actually only appear in five games because he was injured. Okay, I forgot about that. Uh Jason Foley really didn't have much of a year at all. Only pitched six and twothirds innings, was injured, and I'm not exactly sure what the injury was to him. We'll have to find that out. Uh but uh if he's healthy, Jason Foley is an arm that can definitely be a closer. I mean, he's got some high-end, you know, the fast ball is is upper 90s. Um, so I I think you got to look at this move and say this is what the Giants are trying to do is is get some guys that are uh not expensive, not long-term contracts and uh basically that are got some floor that a floor that's not too low and potenti higher ceiling guys. I mean, this guy throws again upper to mid 90s and he can touch a hundred. So, uh, Foley is a a strong guy. You know, he's he's well built. Um, he did have Tommy John's surgery in uh, let's see, as you I'm reading here, free agent 25 after a shoulder injury in 25. Okay. So, he did tweak his mechanics after having Tommy John years earlier, but last year was a shoulder injury. So, uh you know, his primary pitch is a sinker, two seam fast ball. That sinker velocity is 96 to 98 miles per hour. As I said, it can hit 100 miles an hour. He's got a slider around 87 88 with some good movement. And then he's got a four seamer. Uh it's usually clocks around 96. Okay. Low arm slot focuses on ground balls, swing and miss, not just strikeouts. So um and again I mentioned last year, I forgot about that. He underwent season ending shoulder surgery in May and became a free agent. So the Giants have added Jason Foley and they've added obviously Adrien Howser to their starting rotation. And then they've added Gregory Santos. Gregory Santos, lowrisk, highreward guy. Okay. Uh I think people remember him well in the 21 season. He showed flashes of some serious stuff and now he's back this time on a minor league contract. Um so we'll see about Gregory Santos. He can provide depth at Triple A if he doesn't make the big club, but he's a guy that has big league experience. So, all in all, I think these are, you know, not home runs, but they're not uh awful moves. The Giants are trying to shore up that rotation. So, right now, you can look at a rotation of Web, Ray, Landon RP, Adrien Howser, the fourth spot. So, the fifth spot could be somebody internal, whether it becomes u Blade Tidwell, um McDonald, uh Hayden Bird Song, or they go outside and they add a Max Scherzer. I still think they need a couple more guys. These are kind of some guys that I thought they might look at. Um guys like uh Adrien Howser for the starting rotation. You know, I think this Foley move is an under the radar move where if he can get back to his form in 24 before his shoulder issues. I mean, this guy was a pretty solid closer for the Detroit Tigers for a period of time. So, we'll see where this goes. But guys, um, you know, Giants aren't going to go out there and spend top dollar. It's pretty obvious they're not out there in the top of the market for starting pitching or relievers. are trying to add guys who have had some relatively decent success and have done it done so re on a recent basis. 24 for Foley and then Hower had a pretty good year last year and uh we'll see. So comment below guys. What do you think of this move? I mean it's not earthshattering but the Giants said they were going to add pitching and I don't think they're done. I think they need a couple more at least guys that would be bullpin arms and another starter. Maybe there's another lowend starter out there on the market. There's a Zack Latell that's out there that could be a guy that's a swingman. Um Chris Basset is still out there. Max Scherzer we mentioned. I don't think they'll be bringing back an old friend in Alex Cobb. Zack Efflin's out there. Lucas Gilito is still out there. Um, just giving you some names that this Griffin Canning, that's another guy. Michael Copek, I expect the Giants to add two of those guys, some of the guys that I just mentioned right there. Um, you know, I don't think they're looking, it appears pretty obvious they're not looking at the market of a Zack Allen probably now or a Framber Valdez or uh, you know, Ranger Suarez, Tatsui Emi. Doesn't appear that they're looking at that market. They could be looking at a Lucas Gilito, but that's going to cost them 20 million probably AAV. Basset's somewhere going to be around 15 million. Nick Martinez, he's kind of a swingman. He's still available. That's 14 15 million AAV. Um, it could take a flyer on a guy like Frankie Mtos. Guy's coming off of a rough season, had some success in the past. He's not going to cost you much, six to seven million. Um, Gallon, he's going to cost you 18 to 20 million a year. And I'm I my guess is based on what Mel Kelly got that uh Gallon's looking more at a a minimum of a three-year deal. We know that he might be pushing for four and that might be too much for the Giants. That would be my guess that Zack Allen finds a four-year deal and the Giants just are not interested in going four years. So, those are some of the pitchers that are out there. Tyler Molly is still out there. Uh he's going to cost you somewhere in that neighborhood of five to six million a year. That's a guy they could look at. Um Wade Miley, if they want to add an a veteran, he's 39 years old, but he's a lefty. They might want to get a lefty in there. Uh Nester Cortez is available and out there. I don't think he's a guy I'm not sure. You know, he's a 12 to$13 million dealer a year guy. Um I mean, these are some of the guys that are out there. there's still a lot of these uh marginal guys that the Giants can go after. So, it doesn't appear they're going to go after the top of the rotation guys. I mean, all signs are pointing to these middle of the road type guys. So, give us your thoughts below. Foley they say will be back in the middle of the season
What Next, well if the giants have taught us anything nothing
Oh I am so wowed. NOT
Another Walmart player signing by these cheap owners. I’m so sick of this
Sure I'm okay with the Houser signing in a vacuum. I'm not okay that this isn't accompanied by a rotational anchor. You need 7+ starters to survive baseball in 2026 and you cannot only have 2 that you can safely write in sharpie ink (I'm giving Ray the benefit of the doubt here).
Zzzzzz….more fringe moves (at best) by the Giants.
If they won't spend, neither will I
These signings for the bullpen don’t move the needle or any closer to a wild card spot. They sign a reliever who is not available till midseason and another journeyman reliever. When do the Giants shop top of the market.
Nice breakdown Dan of each pitcher. Great job putting out so many good videos sir.
This is painful to listen to….just say it straight – the Giants are going for lower level guys.
Webb has to be kicking himself – he signs way under his market value a couple years ago and the ownership doesn't have any particular motivation to build a championship team.
Well I’m sure Giants fans are so happy that the Giants are utilizing temp agencies to sign pitchers. Great job finding talent needed to compete for a World Series Greg Johnson and Larry Baer. I’m sure after today season tickets sales went up my thousands.
Giants ownership just wants to be better than the Rockies. That's their goal!!
These signings are fine and add upside and depth. But this team is still far from a clear cut playoff contender.
Foley is coming off shoulder surgery and expected back mid season. Could be a good pick up or a nothing move
Hey Johnson if you don't want to spend sell the team to someone who will spend! The Giants fan base deserves better than your sorry cheap ass additions !!! If you are not in the business to win step aside and go sit down next to the Rockies these moves won't sell tickets !!
Dan where's Lew
Dumpster diving……..
meh
Sad sad sad
Fuck Giants ownership. They are operating like the Pirates instead of a Big Market. Straight Dumpster Diving!!💯
Dan, Adrian Houser is box office. Put some respect on his name. Giants got something cookin 🔥
Hauser is a good solid pitcher. Not sure about Foley since he missed last season with a shoulder injury. The Dodgers are shopping on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills while the Giants are shopping at Walmart.
Walmart has Good deals sometimes I don't know about this one u have to hope that these pitchers have better years ahead
I don't mind these signings at all. We'll see how they do. On the relief side, they better hope that Walker doesn't ruin their seasons like he did Verlander's this last year.
Foley is a reclamation project. He had surgery to repair his anterior capsule in his right shoulder. It looks like Brandon Woodruff had similar surgery recently. Unfortunately, the history is not good. A list of pitchers who have had some variation of the surgery includes Dallas Braden, Mark Prior, and Chris Young, all of whom failed to return to their previous form.
Geez, Houser is a human IL with a jersey. His biggest weakness is staying healthy.
Dodgers gotta be shaking. What a joke
These are the right moves… The Giants were never going to spend like the Dodgers OK, that was NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN. If you have A LOT of needs, and they do, and you're not going to spend like the dodgers you have to go for moves like this. This move leaves the Giants enough room under the cap to make other moves, AND THEY NEED TO MAKE OTHER MOVES. This team desperately needs TWO outfielders who can hit, I would also love to see a second baseman and a catcher who can hit AND BULLPEN HELP… A lot of you want them to go ALL IN on someone like Skubal. THAT WAS NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN, and If I'm wrong and it did, that would be their only move. Skubal by himself would not help this team.
I wonder if Greg Johnson is going to go with cheaper food quality at the park too. Water down the beer, go with not real beef dogs, no real crab meat in the sandwiches, whatever they need to play it cheap.
Pomeranz for 1 year and $4M is a huge missed opportunity over the likes of injured Hentges and Foley, he's actually healthy and had an amazing 2025 along with a good track record. I have no idea what the Giants are trying to do.
Dan, i feel sorry for the new coach. This team is such a joke.
The rotation is decent, and if they add a few of these types of guys, some who can go to the bullpen or fit in.When somebody's hurt, that's not too bad
Great coverage here! I only wish you were able to report a superstar signing.
could they spend big on a bat??
Giants have the team to win it right now. All they need is 3 more great starter’s 3 more great outfielders a catcher and a couple more infielders. And about 5 more relief pitchers oh and a couple bench players 😂
