It’s fun to make fun of Adams, especially for his “palm trees and taxes” quip, but let’s be honest with ourselves. The problem was never the GM.

I saw this and thought ‘I didnt see they fired Lindy’. And then I remembered.
Guys, can we give the new GM one day ?
Well he (GMKA) sure as fuck wasn’t part of the solution.
None of the GM’s hired by TP prior to yesterday were good. None of the coaches fired by those GM’s have experienced significant success elsewhere post firing. Let’s see what JK can do.
Darcy Regier?
To be fair, Rolston and Nolan were part of the “tank for McEichel” draft era. And Botterill was recommended by the league, let’s see how he does in Seattle. For me, the end of the Krueger era was the low point. That was absolutely brutal.
It’s crazy to think that before Terry was owner we only had 5 GMs in the previous 40 years and now we’ve had 5 in the last 13 years.
Look at his early Bills tenure—also a joke. All it takes is a good hire at the top, and then letting that person do his job.
Maybe true to some degree, but it’s Jarmo like only the second GM we’ve hired with prior experience in NHL Front offices? That’s insane.
Can we fire the owner?
Only three of these guys got a similar role again. Lindy (had some decent seasons HC since), Botterill (current Kracken GM in his first season), and Bylsma (Kracken HC for one season then fired).
The guy up top is absolutely the problem, partially because he made terrible hire after terrible hire.
The problem is the owner not the gm
The owner made the hires, so in that sense yes it’s the owner.
Murray was addicted to trades, im surprised he didn’t trade himself for something with issues.
Botterill is hard to judge as some of the guys he picked or picks he stocked gave us players. Also Ralph krueger?
Gmka just…he should have been gone before the eichel ordeal. Yeah some decent trades but also bad hirings, and like more rhd than you could ever have on a roster. Also not solving the goalie issue when they were healthy. Greenway, krebs, can debate Quinn but for every zuzker he’s had several poor resignings
Ok, I’ll be the contrarian here:
– Murray and Botteril weren’t viewed as bad signings at the time. They were established guys who had put in times as assistant GMs.
– Bylsma, Housley and Granato weren’t viewed as bad hires either. Housley was a top assistant coach in the league. Bylsma won a cup in Pittsburg, and Granato was while maybe not the top assistant coach in the league, was an established guy with a lot of experience.
The only real bad hires, that didn’t make much sense, were Krueger and Adams….and maybe Ted Nolan.
There is a small part of me that is hopeful that pegula has finally acknowledged the squalor and sees Jarmo as a guy who can step in and fix it. If jarmo fails I imagine Terry sells or something. I think he probably just wants it to look good at this point and maybe thinks giving control to jarmo could remove some heat from himself (if it fails)
I do agree Pegual is really bad at hiring hockey people. Adams was just the worse of them.
I forgot all about Murray!
Fun fact: Jarmo is the FIRST GM in FOURTY TWO (42) YEARS that has actual GM experience. Fourty mother fucking two years
The problem KA had was that TPegs kept him on a leash. Whether that was due to his inexperience and TPegs didn’t trust him or TPegs just wanted to be part of the decision making process, maybe a bit of both, idk. But also, KA didn’t really do anything right that would have allowed Tpegs to take off that leash.
When the question was asked of Jarmo about how he can use his experience in Columbus that will help him attract players here he said, without being asked or prompted, that he and Terry had discussions over the weekend and that he was given full autonomy and every resource including being able to spend to the cap. That confirmed to me that TPegs was involved with at least some decions on the hockey side with KA. There is no reason for Jarmo to even bring that up with the way that question was asked.
With Jarmo’s experience and resume, there is no way he takes this job if TPegs is involved in decisions. It sounds like this topic was specifically part of the conversation he had with Terry over the weekend before he said yes. I guess if you areJarmo, and see how KA had to operate, that would be one of the first things I am asking the owner.
Let’s face it, when Adams’ appointment was announced, everyone on here and everywhere hated it. It stank of hiring a yes man willing to do the owner’s bidding. That’s most certainly what it was and it’s set the club back.
I actually think Adams did okay in some trades, Peterka a good example but he didn’t do enough to improve weak areas that we all saw. He also handed out contracts when they weren’t earned. Samuelson has been very good this year, but after two years of utter shite. Power hasn’t earned his contract yet. Greenway and Krebs extended?
Jarmo had presence and during the press conference was confident and assertive in his answers. He’s the type of guy we needed 6 years ago. That’s the frustrating part and totally on the owner. This shit position and consistent failure is 100% on Terry’s failure to hire competent people.
OOOOH, Donny Meatballs. Those were some days.
Christ almighty we get so few reasons for optimism around here and one comes around and these doomers are determined to try to ensure you agree to be miserable with them immediately. We fucking know Pegula is a problem but we want to not think about it for three, maybe four, days fuck’s sake
I mean, not one of those GMs had any prior experience as a GM. The coaches, have at. I don’t blame coaching as much as some do. Hasn’t been great, some real awful ones, but it’s not been a “coaching” issue in my opinion. I have a little bit of faith now because Jarmo built a good team in Columbus. He had some tough breaks there, and he made his share of mistakes and had misses, but I have faith. At least it’s a competent hockey guy… and, I feel like Jarmo would be the guy to publicly say “I wasn’t allowed to do what I wanted” if Terry starts getting over-involved. That alone may prevent Terry from getting over-involved.
Ruff fired yet?
yes KA was a problem. How can anybody defend him? An abject failure
