Pistons Secretly Stumbled Upon A MONSTER

Meet one of the most underrated players in all of basketball, Javante Green. His impact goes beyond the box score. And yesterday's game showed you why. In transition, no problem. Pick up Derek White, take him off the three-point line because that's his bread and butter. Multiple spin moves. Guess what? Zero separation created and he's forced to pass. And his teammate misses a floater. As you can tell, he's not known as a three-point shooter on this play. Derek White disrespecting him, but he makes the defense pay. He's capable of going through hot stretches. He's got big boy balls. Look where he's picking up Jaylen Brown. Amazing job avoiding the screen. And look at him slide his feet without reaching. That's inspiring stuff. And then he goes for the step back and Javvante says, "Nope, I'm right there." in and out dribble and there's just no separation to be found. And his teammate helps him out as well, forcing a pass. I don't know if he needed that help, but luckily Simons was as cold as can be. His next victim, Peyton Pritchard. This is what he does. He forces you to operate far away from the basket. He's well above the perimeter. And Peyton Pritchard's catching at the five-point line. And playing with that type of aggressiveness, it's easy to get blown by. But look, he stays in front, forces a spin move, and then gets a very solid contest out of rhythm jumper in and out. And I'm telling you, even if he makes that shot, the Detroit coaching staff is looking and saying, "We'll live with that because he's making them work for the bucket." And this is his version of an assist. He forces a miss, and now they can run in transition. Leads to easy shot quality again. Look where he has Jaylen Brown catching the rock. Man, oh man. Look how annoying he is with the ball pressure. He's right up in his grill smelling his belly button. Jaylen tries to swipe through. No, no, no. That's not going to work. Another sequence where his defense leads to easy offense. That was his first half stint. And when he checked into the game, they were down by eight points. During this run, they actually tied up the game at one point. He checks out of the game, they're only down by two points. I'm not saying he was the sole reason, but it felt like his defensive intensity and energy really flipped the script of this game. Next time we see him was in the fourth quarter. Celtics were on a run. They're only down by three points. They have all the momentum. This shot right here is crazy to me. Last time he took a jump shot was early second quarter. He's been sitting on the bench and now in a critical moment, all the pressure in the world. Catch. fire away with supreme confidence. What a big bucket. Because keep in mind, these are minutes without Cade Cunningham. So, every bucket in these minutes means that much more. Listen to Austin Rivers immediately after this shot. He's thinking the same thing I'm thinking. It's money. >> That's a big one. Celtics timeout. And of course, he's picking up Peyton Pritchard above that three-point line. Burst the speed. I'm sorry, white boy. You're just too slow. He comes up with the steal AND HE'S NOT DONE YET. MY GOODNESS. SLAMS IT ON DEREK WHITE'S BALD HEAD. AND THEN HE'S LIKE, "WHERE'S THE FOUL?" Ref gets in his face. He wants all the smoke. Technical foul. It is what it is. Who cares? Detroit should start a GoFundMe to pay for that fine. I'm pretty sure they can find every technical. Oh, no. No. Simons, a three-point shooter's open at the three-point line. Not anymore. force him off that line and make him make a tough running floater. Luckily, the basketball guys reward him for that defense. So, they took him out. He comes back with one minute remaining and he gets the biggest stop of the game. 110 105 refused to get screened and Derek White just loses the ball. That right there was a masterclass of how to make the most of your minutes. He plays 14 minutes on the night. a plus 13, leads the entire team in that category. Also hit two three-pointers, which is an inconsistent part of his game, but mostly his impact came from defense guarding Jaylen Brown, who couldn't do anything against him. By the way, Jaylen Brown had 34 points on the night. Everyone was getting cooked by him except Javvante Green. He was also guarding Peyton Pritchard. And look at the difference in those two players. And Javvante Green can scale up, he can scale down. He's got the height of a tall shooting guard, but he has the body of a small forward and small ball power forward. He has that football mentality as well where he's going to do the pushing around. He's not going to get pushed around. Per pivotfade.com 478 minutes on the season. The Detroit Pistons have 109.7 defensive rating when he's on the floor, aka the second best defense only behind the Thunder. And when he's off the floor, they go to the 15th best. That's all I got. 1. He's been surprisingly excellent this season. Before the last 5 games, I was thinking he should play over Ron Holland.

Which i almost never say an old rental should play over a young guy were developing. But 1st in the east, changes the philosophy.

  2. Whenever he has been on the court for us he brings a positive energy, plays hard as hell and just gets buckets. He’s definitely been an underrated addition to the squad we just have almost too much talent on the bench

  3. At first I didn't think that he fit with the roster, because he doesn't really play within the offense. It always looks like he is off-script. But he is a defensive dawg who brings everything every second he is on the court, plus he has shown up in key moments all season. We should definitely keep him if we can.

  4. 3:36 this play alone shows his i.q. not only did he close out on the open man, he did so by also cutting off his right hand, forcing him to go left on the dribble which saw a defender covering the corner, and Duren still in the paint, if he lets him go left, he could drive down the middle for a better shot and or pass it off to an open player.

  6. He reminds me of what Lindsey Hunter brought us off the bench back in 04 and 05. Whenever he checked in, the defense locked down and we were always able to get ahead or come back.

  7. Been a fan since we drafted Zeke. I love this team. They seem to be channeling that Bad Boys attitude. Everyone is committed. The bench outscored the starters in that Atlanta game. Nub said!!!!

  8. Nice video, us pistons fans really appreciate what jevonte brings. And I believe he's on a minimum or similar contract. Perfect depth piece

  9. He deserves some love. He's constantly making plays and changing the game when he gets in. Crazy the Pistons have 3 wings that can do this with Ausar, Green and Holland.

  10. Javonte has been a journeyman and he has only been in the league for 6 years. His first team was the Boston Celtics. Wasted his years away on the Bulls. The Bulls organization did not know how to utilize his energy and defensive prowess. During his time there, he looked like he had low energy and even looked like he lacked conditioning. Glad to see he is feeling at home with the Pistons, because they are going to need him in the playoffs.

  11. When the pistons picked him up during the offseason I was like β€œwtf is this?”. He’s quickly becoming one of my favorite players.

  12. This is exact type of guy Sixers need..our perimeter defense has been poor all season…Havin a guy like this to just focus on defense while our big 3 handle the scoring is what we need..Our gm though isnt smart enough to pick up someone like this…i would give up Mccain for him

  13. As a Pistons fan I thought the signing was meh. Green has become one of my favorite players on the team this year. I think JB is going to start to have to give him more minutes with the way he’s beeen playing. We already know what he brings on defense but if he can keep hitting those 3s he will help the team spread the floor when he’s out there as well.
