McLean to pitch for team USA

  1. I don’t like it only from the standpoint of this potentially affecting how the Mets handle him in terms of innings over the course of the full season.

  2. I hate this.

And unfortunately this only strengthens my feelings that he should not break camp with the team. He needs to be on a strict innings limit.

  3. Maybe they’ll let him pitch for like one inning and he can spend the rest of the time learning from Skenes. One can only hope.

  4. Nice to see he was asked and they recognized his talent. Not happy to see that he will be pitching it in. We all know how this ends.

  5. Oh wow that’s so exciting and it will be great to watch but please please please don’t get hurt.

  6. just cannot fathom being a team owner/POBO/GM/player’s agent and encouraging/allowing players, particularly pitchers, to participate in a meaningless exhibition tournament that could potentially jeopardize their ability to perform their job that they’re actually getting paid to do. forget the Diaz freak injury, remember how Lindor looked like he was putting 120% in every game for team Puerto Rico in 2023 and then looked gassed until July? not to mention how volatile pitchers’ arm, shoulder, and elbow health are, and how throwing a few extra innings can be the difference between a healthy year and getting the patented Scherzer Dead Arm. the national pride angle is also just completely lost on me, even with roots in the two finalist countries from the previous tournament. all around just do not like the WBC

  7. He’s tough as nails. He’s gonna shove and be completely unharmed. It’ll be an excellent experience for him and all Mets fans will breath a sign of relief.

  8. Man you guys should try to get into the WBC. Its an incredible event, my favorite of any sport. World cup energy but its BASEBALL baby.

  9. Maybe we should pool some money and hire a voodoo priestess to cast protections spells on his body

  10. I love that this sub is so traumatized (understandably) that something as cool as one of our young promising pitchers getting the call to play for the national team is a threat of menace, instead of a positive endeavor for the young lad 😂.

  11. It’s funny they used a picture of him when he was on the 18U team and looked like a baby instead of just photoshopping the WBC jersey on a current picture like they do free agents

  12. This is cool, but I’m not a huge fan of this. I imagine if he’s with the roster a full season for the first time, they’ll be trying to manage workload a bit. Having him on the WBC roster just reduces how deep into the season he could go.

  13. So many nervous nellies. I love when young guys get a chance to show off like this. Hope he dominates!

  14. I hate this. Also I’ve said this like 1,000 times already but they waited too long to call him up in 2025. He’s obviously a beast. Gonna haunt me for years.
