Bo Bichette is telling teams he is open to second base which vastly opens up his market.

This puts Red Sox in an interesting position if they choose to sign him and allocate Marcelo to 3B.

  1. This is all fresh as his agent is actively informing teams. Another, second article explains why this is bad for Blue Jays

If he is willing to play second, and given his age of 27, I wonder what the Red Sox will do. The whole no long term contracts for aging players won’t apply here.

The other thing to consider, after replying to mdmike1534, is that I wonder if Marte’s trade value now goes down given the fact there is now another big 2B alternative? This may help Red Sox in various ways if they can capitalize on it.

  2. Don’t know that I’d hate a combo of Bichette at second, one of the Japanese sluggers at first, and Mayer at third. I’d still love to see Marte at second though as well.

  3. Come Breslow by saying this he’s practically begging to come here! Maybe not literally but he seriously is preemptively avoid a position controversy, sign this guy now!

  4. Coincidentally, I’m open to that too, and in a Red Sox uniform (on edit, the uniform is for Bo, not me)

  5. I really think this is the move. He’s young enough that a long term deal isn’t as risky, he’s been fairly consistent, and he’s a huge upgrade at 2B over anything we’ve had since Pedroia was playing regularly. Would also allow us to play Mayer at 3B and should still allow us the flexibility to make other moves this offseason.

  6. Of course “he’s open to moving to second base”. He’s “open to getting as many dollars as possible from as many teams as possible”. Man, this off season nonsense is getting boring. Wake me up when pitchers and catchers report.

  7. This should be a slam dunk. He would pepper the monster and lead the American League in doubles.

  8. Oh boy, I bet we are going to be SO interested. He would be a great addition to the infield, and honestly, gives us a great person to have if Story finds himself injured again. Or lets us move story if need be. Bichette is kinda the guy you want on your team anywhere he’s willing to play.

  9. I like it more than Bregman, I like it more than Alonso. He’s only 27, you’re getting a better bat than Bregman’s and you’re getting it from 2B instead of tying up the DH spot.

  10. They will never sign Bichette too many years and money, and he does not play great defense.

  11. Interesting, am I out of touch or have the Sox shown zero interest in Bo this off season? I’d like him or Alex, but both seem to be a long shot for us since we don’t like to pay anyone over 26.
