Yankees lost another one to the Mets…Frustrated is an understatement

This one really surprised me. The New York Yankees made no effort in trying to retain Luke Weaver. Granted, he didn’t have his best 2025 season with a 3.62 ERA. He pitched 64 innings, had a whip just above one. Now, compared to 2024, he was a much more dominant reliever that season. But still, the New York Mets just signed Luke Weaver. Now, 2 years, 22 million. And with the prices of players in baseball nowadays, $11 million a year for a guy like Luke Weaver seemed like a no-brainer. I understand the Devin Williams decision not bringing him back, but Luke Weaver, man, I really did not anticipate losing Luke Weaver to the Mets as well. On paper right now, the Yankees are not better than they were in 2025. A matter of fact, they are worse right

  1. He had a good year, just a bad September. On 8/30 he had a 2.60 ERA and a WHIP under 1.0

He just got worn out from being used so much. And now another key bullpen piece is gone. Thanks Cashman

  2. The thing is, if Cashman had signed Weaver, most of the people complaining right now, would complain about that as well. All I heard last year was how much bad Weaver was. Now Cashman lets him walk and all I see are people complaining that Cashman didn't bring him back.

  3. He was tipping his pitches and absolutely unplayable late in the season. Sadly I think he had run his course. The hamstring injury definitely set Luke back. Nevertheless will miss him.
