1996 Stanley Cup Reunion | Full Ceremony

Avalanche Faithful. As part of the 30th anniversary season, tonight we are honoring the team that brought the [music] first major sports championship to Colorado. To begin our ceremony, please welcome Cupkeeper Mario Delis Savia and the Stanley Cup. Now featured on the video board, a brief look back at that special 9596 [music] inaugural season. Nordics have been sold to the Comat Entertainment Group and will be moving to Denver, Colorado for the 199596 season. pass back and jump. He scor [music] held in UA group shot score. [screaming] AVALANCHE FANS, ARE [screaming] YOU READY? Introducing alumni from the 1996 Stanley Cup Championship team. He played all 22 games in the 1996 playoffs. DEFENSEMAN NUMBER TWO, SILVIN LEE. [screaming] He spent a total of 11 seasons within the Nordics Avalanche organizations. Defenseman number five, Alexi Gusurov. [screaming] [groaning] He played seven seasons with the Nordiks and Avalanche. Number six, Craig Wan. He spent nine seasons with the Nordics and Avalanche. Defenseman number seven, CURTIS LEISION. He scored 19 points during the 96 playoffs and still ranks third all time in goals by an Avalanche defenseman. NUMBER EIGHT, SANDIS OALANCH. [screaming] He scored 17 points in 22 games in the 96 playoffs. CENTER NUMBER NINE, MIKE REACHI. He passed away in 2024, but will forever be remembered for his toughness yet kind heart. represented tonight by his children. Left winger number 12, Chris Simon. [cheering] He scored the first goal in Avalanche history and averaged a point per game through the 96 playoffs. Left wing number 13, MALLERIE KAMINSKI. [music] He skated in 13 games in the 96 playoffs, part of his 16-year NHL career. Number 14, Dave Hannah. [music] He skated in 88 games, including 12 in the 96 playoffs. Leftwing number 16, Warren Reichel. [music] Hockey Hall of Famer, Con Smith trophy winner in 96 and Avalanche all-time leading scorer number 19, Joe Sakic. [music] He spent six seasons with the Nordics and Avalanche franchises. Left winger number 20, Ry Corby, [music] hockey hall of famer and one of the most exciting and dynamic players ever. NUMBER 21, Peter [screaming] Bber. [music] >> [cheering] [applause] >> Known for his mix of grit and skill, a Stanley fourtime Stanley Cup champion, number 22, Clude Love. [music] He spent nine seasons with the Nordics and Avalanche franchises, winning two Stanley Cups. DEFENSEMAN NUMBER 24, JOHN [screaming] CLIM, a threetime Stanley Cup champion and a key leader on the 96 Cup winning team. Number 25, Mike Keane. >> [music] >> A faceoff wizard known for his defensive game as a forward. Two time Stanley Cup champion number 26 Stefan. [music] He played seven seasons with the Nordikson Avalanche and amassed 22 wins during the 9596 season. Goalender number 35 step. [music and applause] He was the architect of the team that brought the first major championship to the city of Denver. represented by his wife Cocoa Laqua. Please welcome Pierre Laqua. We remember Pierre Laqua. Thank you to this group of Avalanche alumni and the entire 1996 team for bringing the first major sports championship to our state and the city of Denver. Their impact on the game of hockey in Colorado has been immense and the effects of that first season are still felt today through the standard they set and the culture of winning they created.
